Kai paced a little way from her den, by the outskirts of the pride but not over the border. She was well within the pride, on the dunes, but her eyes gazed out, looking back and forth to the roguelands, to where the Safi lay in wait. The roguelands, it made her wonder, made her anxious, it had been so long since Ka and herself had separated from Ra'd and Ryujin. She bit her lip, let her claws emerge from her toes, making tiny marks in the sand. Her tail thrashed for a moment, as if testing the air for any obscenities that offended her, offended her home.

Who should she tell?

She had had dreams, nightmares and visions as of late. Some were liked, even longed after on days where she had trained countless hours with Ka. She dreamed of the next full moon, and while watching the borders from upon a dune, she watched as Ra'd and Ryujin walked onto the sand of the Simo and met with Kidondo and No, and they were allowed, they were in quarantine, her heart had soared with that dream, though nightmares ensued.

She dreamed of an intruder coming into the sands of the Simo, and she was alone, but they were heading towards where apprenticed juveniles were, practicing and socializing, she was the only adult around and her throat could not find her voice, and she fought, but she awoke with an aching pain in her temple, and feared if the events would come true.

Kai had dreamed of someone coming here, with the mark that she shared on her shoulder, whether it was her mother, or another, the mark was there, and she feared for the worst, did it mean her mother was coming, someone else? But how, there were no other relatives, no other blood, just memories.

She paced, upon the dunes, and kept her eyes looking back and forth from the Safi to the roguelands, worrying, what would come first, her crimson eyes seemed to glow in the light of the sun, it was nearing dusk, though the sky was aflame, just as her blood was as she resided here.

This was her home, but who should she tell?

He was crossing the dunes when he looked up and spotted her pacing. He knew her and liked her. She was Kai, twin to Ka and a member currently in quarantine - though probably not for much longer. He didn't know why, because he didn't know her all that well, but he trusted her deeply and he liked her outgoing nature and friendly personality. She was easygoing despite all the hardship she and her brother had been through and he was glad that she was here.

But today she did not seem her normal self.

Then again, he didn't feel his normal self either. He was still bothered by Ripuka's self. Bothered by visions himself. Maybe this meeting would help to soothe both of their troubled thoughts.

But he did not know this. Not yet. All he saw was someone who was agitated and he felt it his duty as Regent - but more importantly, as a friend - to see if he could help.

He moved towards her and when he was within earshot, called out. "Kai, are you well?"

What would happen first, would they be true, was she able to see those things that would come to pass? Within the presence of her mother, within a certain area, her visions consisted of memories of her mother, the horrible things she had done, and they had haunted her as a child, but she, Ka, Ryujin, they escaped it, so was it changing, was it becoming something else? If it was, how, and why? Kai was happy here, and once Ryujin and Ra'd would journey here next, everything would be together as it should be, everything would be alright, but why now, why?

Her eyes held uncertainty, even a tiniest flicker of fear, adn worry, nervousness, but she did not want it to show. She had trained herself each day since her arrival in speed and strength, and at the intruding voice in her ears, her head shot to the side, ears erect, but she felt herself become relaxed upon seeing the familiar form of Kidondo.

As Kai saw his face, she offered a faint smile, and turned to walk halfway between them so they would have their meeting, this moment, sooner. He had known something, perhaps by her movements, that something was different, something was astray, she would not lie to Kidondo, she and Ka had told him of their seeristic abilities, and they had been allowed to stay.

"I don't know, Kidondo," she said softly, eyes on his, letting him see the mixed emotions in them, "So many things, I've dreamed, it has never been like this before...I-I don't know what it means..."

His face became lined with worry at her words. He didn't like this at all. Not one little bit. The powers that a seer had scared him, perhaps more than he even realised, and to see them effecting her so made him sick to his stomach. He knew how terrible the visions could be - especially when one could not udnerstand their meaning.

But how much comfort could he offer here when he could not even comfort himself when in the same position?

Well, maybe two minds would work better than one. Maybe, if they worked together, they could figure this thing out - whatever it was. At this, he tried to give her an encouraging smile and sat slowly, choosing his next words with careful precision, not wanting to worry her further.

"Kai. Do not let them worry you too much. They may not seem as bad as you think. Dreams, even ones born of magic, are not always what they seem. Tell me. What did you see?"

As he sat beside her, Kai felt a wave of comfort over her shoulders, he knew he must be worried as well, this was not what she and Ka had described before. "I just don't know why they changed, they were never like this before," she said softly, trying to formulate sentence in her mind before she spoke. "I know what I've already said, small as it is, worries you too, I never meant for things like this to happen," she wanted him to know that much.

She had never asked for this gift...or curse.

"I saw something happier, Ra'd and Ryujin coming here, to speak to you and No, that was alright, and made me smile, though soon after a dream faded into such darkness," she began. She gulped a litle, her throat feeling dry all of a sudden, "I saw an intruder, larger, I think from the Safi, but not from the Simo, they came into the borders near where the children had come together, to socialize, they came in without anyone knowing, though I saw them.

They were so large, and I awoke with a start after I had charged at them, and a roar came from their throat, I had such a pain on the side of my head," she touched her paw to the spot, where it had ached. "I haven't told Ka...I don't want him to worry, but..I wasn't sure who to tell, but I knew I couldn't not tell anyone, Kidondo, I never wanted it to be like this..." she said gritting her teeth.

Kai had been through so much already, all she wanted was peace from mind and body, to have these terrible things fade. "Have I just been training too much? Thinking and worrying too much of Ra'd and Ryujin, over what happened just recently?" she asked, referring to the female who had come, who had been attacked, and who had faded into the flames of the sand.
PostPosted: Mon Feb 09, 2009 10:48 am

"Kai, don't apologise." He began. "You have nothing to be sorry about. I know a little of these things and in my experience, it is impossible to control what you see. It is my job to worry." He added with a slight smile. "Because if I don't, who else will?"

Then she began to speak about what she had seen and he remained motionless, both ears turned towards her, golden eyes intent. What she spoke of concerned him greatly. More than he let on in his expression. He wondered if it was in anyway connected to Ripuka and her sudden appearance and...demise. He wondered if maybe there was something he had overlooked and that something was now haunting poor Kai in her sleep. He was afraid of ignoring it. Afraid of turning a blind eye in case it meant death for another. He could not allow that to happen again. He could not bear it.

"Perhaps your fatigue is something to do with it, Kai. It won't hurt for you to take it a little easier for the next few days. Try and relax a little. Don't overwork yourself. Maybe that's all there is to it and if that is the case, then good. If not, it sounds like you'll need the rest to prepare."

He stood and shook his head. "If it were not for the recent events with Ripuka, I would have told you to cast the thought form your mind. But I'm not sure of anything anymore - not when it comes to this odd power." He set his jaw and looked suddenly serious. "What we have to consider is the fact that this could very well be a premonition."

"I have been training with Ka rather vigorously, to improve my strength and speed," she flicked her tail as she spoke, though brought her paws to rest next to each other before her chest, she was breathing deep, trying to hold herself calm, for she even had to admit to herself, what was happening, was strange and unknown, and she did not like the feeling of being intruded by foreign feelings, thoughts and emotions. "Ka and I want to make sure we are well and fit, and can prove ourselves to the fullest before everyone of the pride," she said with a nod. She and Ka wanted so much to be able to be welcomed by everyone within the lands, upon the Simo sand dunes.

With the mention of Ripuka, Kai's ears fell back and lay against her head softly, "WHat happened was terrible, though her memory, strength, devotion and will lives on in her son," the golden child, who she had yet to meet, though Kai was nervous, and wondered how the cub, if he remembered anything, would react to her -a rogue wishing to join the pride.

Prepare-

Kai did not gulp as she normally might have from wonder and the slightest fear, the intruder, they were large, larger than Ka, and she had never faced an opponent that large in a simple sparring match either. It made her wonder if she really should rest, or if she should keep going.

"I-if it is a premonition, I promise you Kidondo, with all my heart and spirit, that if what I saw comes to be, I will not flee, I will fight, to keep them safe, to keep everyone safe," she said honestly, even if it meant a disadvantage in a battle, the lives of the young, and the lives of everyone within the pride, was incredibly important.

"Should...we tell anyone else? The guards perhaps...Azarax?" she knew his name though had not met him formerly yet, though hte worry in her tone of voice was a blatant reveal of her worry of how she or Kidondo would explain how they knew about such a forthcoming...Kai did not want any of the other pride members to distrust her, or Ka for their seeristic abilities...but, she did not want to lie to them.

"I fear...if we tell them, and others come to understand, that others will be wary of my brother and I, and my brother yet to come here because of our blood tie to our mother..." she stopped, hesitated, and looked to the sand, grit her teeth together, "I don't want to risk everything we've come to do and know...I don't want to lose what we've fought so hard to come to...but-" she looked up at him, crimson eyes on golden eyes, "I understand if the truth must be known, but I swear to you Kidondo, I reveal what I see out of respect and loyalty to the pride, I keep no secrets of anything ill and threatening..."

She was worried, wondered if she had done the right thing, but to hide such a vision, would be dangerous to her, and everyone in the pride.

WOuld she have to work harder now to prove her worth even more, after what she had revealed to Kidondo, she was unsure.
PostPosted: Thu Feb 12, 2009 11:01 am

Kidondo smiled. "You need not worry about that, Kai. You and your brother have proved yourselves already. Through your dedication and your genuine concerns. The very fact you are telling me of these ominous things show we have trust. If we have that, we are as good as family already." He didn't want to say too much in case the council disagree, but he could see no reason for it and would be firm in his judgement of these two twins. Yes, they came with baggage and risks, but so could any worthy rogue.

He nodded them, conjuring the mind of that orange-red lioness. He was surprised at how easily he could imagine her face. It was so vivid that sometimes he thought she had returned to the lands. Sometimes he thought that she had returned from the dead to warn him. Then his mind would wander and her image would be gone again - leaving him with that cold, hard reminder of her death. "It is a grievous thing, her death." His voice was coarse. "And I was warned of it in dreams, just as you are being warned now. If I had acted instead of ignored--" He cut himself off. "No, we cannot ignore these dreams of yours, Kai. We cannot risk another incident like this. We cannot keep letting rogues and Safi think they can pick us off one by one."

He nodded, strengthened by her words. "And you will not fight alone, Kai. I will be at your side, the whole pride will be at your side. They fight for their honour, for their children, for their survival. How can one beat many?" He wished he could find strength in these words...but they had beaten Ripuka, hadn't they? No, enough. Ripuka was old, far from the borders when the attack was initiated. So long as the pride stayed within the boundaries, they had nothing to fear. They were a warrior pride, after all. Warcraft was in their blood.

It was a long time before he spoke and he let her finish before he even contemplated putting thoughts into words. Then, once she had spoken her mind, he nodded slowly, curling his tail in thought.

"Do not worry, Kai. You and your brother are safe here. We will not reveal your secret. I will tell Azarax, as you say, and I will inform Uuo to make sure the guards we have are kept on full alert. They are already on alert after what happened to Ripuka, but a few words from the Captain of Defense should get them motivated to stay vigilant. In this time, being on edge, being more pro-active in defense will not be thought out of the ordinary. There are threats out there and they need not know of this one you have found." He nodded, seemingly confident.

(( I don't think Kidondo told the twins that he was a seer in their RP from before? But, from this RP Kai will probably catch on. I'll double check this later, though, just in case he did tell them. ))

((I don't think Kidondo outwardly said he was a seer to either of the twins in their last rp, perhaps hinted, but neither of them caught on, so to speak <3))

Kai listened to Kidondo's words and nodded at his responses, and she felt touched that Kidondo believe she and Ka had proved themselves already, although, only when the council met would they know for sure. That was why she worked so hard, why Ka worked so hard, so there would be no regrets or thinking of any other reason for not letting them stay, Kai and Ka needed to secure their home here in hopes of Ryujin and Ra'd coming next. They couldn't fail, not now.

Ear erect she listened to his words, and her eyes widened at attention of his revealing truth, it seemed, after everything she has experienced, Ka had experienced, they were not alone, that Kidondo, the regent of the Simo...was a seer too. Though he spoke of it in a regal and mysterious manner, which, suggested to Kai that not a lot of others knew, and like she wanted to keep her powers hidden, so did Kidondo.

At that moment, Kai felt a bond of trust so deep, she felt her blood surge at the idea of anyone coming within these lands...to her home...

"I will be at the ready, in case, such a dream indeed is a premonition, that I can at the very least, hold the intruder from coming within the lands until others arrive, I will not let anyone down,," her tone of voice swore to the sands that she was true, and would do what she must.

"Please, Kidondo, if there is anything I can do further than what I am doing now, to better prepare myself, or do more for the pride, please tell me, your understanding and truth in your words means a lot to me, more than you could know," Kai had never received such words and trust from her mother, which had pained her so much.
PostPosted: Mon Feb 16, 2009 12:16 pm

(( ah awesome <3 thankees! ))

"But do not put yourself at risk either, Kai. We would not wish to lose another, especially one so promising as yourself. If you spot anything, call the guards, call anyone and everyone. We will come and you will not have to face these nightmares alone."

He pondered a moment, silently, then tipped an ear towards her. "As for your power, I can give you no advice. A seer's gift is an odd one and I've never truly understood it. Until this dream of yorus proves true or false, rest easy and try not to worry. It's all I ask of you. You've already done your part by confiding in me."

He paused. "And since you confided in me, perhaps, you can lend your ear and here one of my worries?" He wrinkled his nose. "Something has been bothering me, too, recently. Something similar to your own situation."

Kai understood, but she also understood she still would have to be prepared for anything forthcoming, but she would be careful, as it would not do well for the pride if she were to become injured when she was still such a new member dwelling within the pride even now. Flicking her tail, eyes on Kidondo, she offered him a reassuring smile with a nod of her understanding his words.

True, seer's gifts were strange...and they were never easy to explain.

Ears becoming erect listening to his words to her then, her eyes were curious, interested even, Kidondo would confide in her? She felt honored, and she hoped he knew. "Of course Kidondo, you can tell me whatever might plague you as well, I believe we have come to a point where we know we can truly rely and trust fully, one another," she smiled, she was true to her word, and as Kidondo was honorable, she was the same.

"What has worried you?"

He nodded, grateful.

"Very well." A pause. "Before Ripuka's death, before she brought her cub to stay and live amongst us, I had a feeling that something was going to happen. Something bad. When I slept I would see haunting images but I could not get them to focus and so I ignored them. As the days passed by, I woke from my dreams remembering nothing but the flitting ghost of a lioness." He looked away, ashamed.

"It was Ripuka."

He drew in a haggard breath and continued. "She would appear in my dreams so suddenly and so fleetingly that it was amazing I remembered seeing her ar all. She was never the focus of the dream, simply a passer by, an invader - almost. I ignored the dreams and thought them nothing more than that."

He paused again, clearing his throat. "A few days before the incident I had another dream. I was standing in the desert and the sky was red. On the distance there was a strange structure. I ran towards it and when I was close, saw the structure was a pile of skulls. I looked into the sockets and saw a face there. Ripuka's face." He shook his head. "The dreams were trying to tell me that she was in danger. They were warning me about what would come to pass. I ignored them, chose to call them nothing but meaningless pictures. And then...Ripuka came and it was too late. She was gone." His voice was shaking.

"If...If I hadn't ignored them..." He trailed off, lost for words and suddenly very ashamed.

Kai stayed silent and as he spoke, her ears fell back slightly in no shameful way, no pity, but worry for him, sincere worry. This had plagued him so, even now, after the incident had passed. But to have something happen prematurely, then something greater occur, she could see why he felt the way he did, but still, as he even said, the power of a seer are few and far between fully known and understood.

"As you said, Kidondo, it is impossible to control what you see, although what happened...happened, in now lies in the past, our past here. These things...that we see, we can't understand them, I never did as a cub when I would see memories of my mother, for a while...I thought it was a foresight of what I was...they became clearer over time though...

Do not blame yourself, plague yourself with this feeling, do not let it sit and fester in you," Kai let her crimson eyes look towards his, truth, trust in her crimson eyes, "If you let them reside, they can build, do not let what happened stifle you and your actions, take what happened, what you saw, and use it for the better of the future for us all," she nodded, offering a half-smile.

"What we are, what we see, is hard to explain to anyone, let alone explain it to ourselves, the best, we can do, all of us, is not presume anymore, we must be prepared for any future thing to happen...I know now, after what you have revealed to me Kidondo...I will not take my visions lightly, but I will not let them eat me alive. Remorse...mourning," she stopped, thinking of the golden cub within the borders, "regret...it may live on still, but we cannot let it consume us, we are Firekin, we are strong..." Kai looked to him, felt a throb of pride in her chest, "You are strong."

She stopped then, and let what she said, which she hoped would not offend him of course, lay still in the air, and a smile crossed her maw slightly, "The things that come, and come to be, they are so strange...but I am glad, that I can come to you know Kidondo, and know any secret of a vision, or trouble, can be confided in you."
PostPosted: Mon Feb 23, 2009 12:18 pm

For a long while he sat quie still, letting the younger one's words sink in. He knew she was right. He had known it all along. It wasn't his fault. He couldn't understand nor control this horrible power, this curse that insisted on tormenting him. All he could do was learn from it and hope to use the experience to guide him in the future. But it wouldn't bring Ripuka back nor ease the loss in his heart.

He stood, looked towards the horizon where Ripuka would have appeared and released a long, heavy sigh.

"We are strong." He repeated finally. Sometimes he wondered whether he truly was strong enough to lead this pride. He wouldn't say it, though. No, he'd just grin and bear it. He had a different strength, he'd known that since he'd been a cub.

"Thank you Kai, I'm glad we spoke on this. You've eased my troubled thoughts, for now at least. Now, I will go and alert the guards, tell them to keep extra watch. You...you go and get some well earned rest." He gave a rumbling purr and, with a faint smile, turned and headed off, pausing to glance back at her.

"Thank you."

Then he was gone.

Kai sat quietly, watching Kidondo, flickering her ears listening, to everything, his voice, the wind, the sand moving, everything. Though her body felt less tense and at ease, her mind was still grasping everything laid before her paws. But it would be alright, together, here, with everyone, everything would be alright.

"Your quite welcome, Kidondo, and thank you for hearing my words of worry as well," she smiled, as he stood, she stood, and purred in return, watched him walk off towards his home, and she turned to head towards hers as well. Though she stopped, glanced to the borders, of the roguelands where it met the simo pridelands, and she wondered, and waited, soon, she told herself, soon.

She would prepare, and she would be ready, for anything, anything at all.

Soon, her mind told hersoon,, and she ran towards home, to Kai, to feel calm again.
