[Sometime after Pearl's talk with Jayn + some time alone] Pearl sat there quietly by the fireside in the HQ. Her body glowed and shimmered from the flickering light. She was patiently waiting for someone. On the outside she carried a calm exterior, though still rather anxious due to her social anxieties as well as her nervousness.
What should she say when she sees him? It's been a while since they met...Maybe start with some small talk? She was so nervous it felt like her heart was going to explode. What if he didn't feel the same way she does for him? She inhaled deeply as she waited for the Nobody to show up.

It was a simple thing, and most would not think once, much less twice about such a feeling. But for a being like Darkside this desire to be around a specific person simply for the sake -of- being around them was strange. To be near, to teach, to learn from, to assist and protect when need be. Just to enjoy her presense...
He'd had a great many strange feelings assault his consciousness this day. A, perhaps long overdue, visit to see how the pregnant female he had rescued so long ago was doing with her children had resulted in a rather strange series of revelations. They had given him affection freely, and watching them together had given him a mixed reaction... but mostly it had made him want to return to Pearl, if she were to be found. The reasons were a bit mixed, and he was skirting examining them all for the moment. Being around Pearl would calm him, and perhaps he could appraise them better when he wasn't feeling so off-center.
He stepped into the HQ, heading in pensive quietude toward the main room. He would call for Pearl when he entered and see if she was there... but his thoughts were thrown off track when he spotted her sitting out in the open. In the open, near the fire, where the light did dance so beautifully upon her irridescent fur...
He could not say what had come over him but he remained for some moments longer than seemed necessary, unable to look away. -Pearl...- He would have said more but it seemed to be the only thing that could sort itself out from his jumbled thoughts. He shook himself and moved closer, coming to a stop and sitting his customary few steps away from her. -I was hoping you would be here.- There. That was better.

Before he even so much as stepped into the HQ she realized he was close by. His presence was unlike any other. Darkness with a bit of comforting warmth in it. It might come off as frightening at first, but the warmth within was irresistible for Pearl who thinks of the world as a cold place.
Hi...Darkside... She said softly in his mind. For now that was all she could think of to say. His presence was so calming...She missed this feeling. She missed being around him. She missed him.
Were you...looking for me? She asked curiously. Why would he look for her? Perhaps he wanted to check up on her since it's been a while. He was a protector of sorts to her. Kind of like the dragon guarding its precious treasure, maybe. He probably just wanted to make sure she hasn't gotten into any sort of trouble lately with ill-hearted Kitsus. Or at least that was her train of thought.

Darkside was quiet for a moment as he watched Pearl, feeling his heart calm in her presense if not his mind. He knew, perhaps better than most, how dark and cold the world could be. But since coming here it had seemed much brighter and warmer... like the light reflected from her fur.
-I missed you.- The answer he found after a few moments of thought was a simple one. He was curious as to how she had been, surely; but his main goal had been simply to find her and sit with her.
The strange feelings of the day, the silent pain and hope and... want he'd felt at seeing these other people, these families, together settled immovably upon his mind. He wanted... he wanted...
-Pearl?- That was... almost too much. It didn't seem right for him to be entertaining such a thought, no matter how unbidden the manner in which it had appeared. It took a moment before he realized he'd uttered her name "aloud" again. His mind whirled as he tried to come up with a reason for his queery. -Have you been well?- It was the only thing he could come up with without the pause seeming akwardly long.

Pearl didn't know much about the world. Most everything to her were dark and frightful. People were cold and ruthless, uncaring and cruel. Almost everyone she met in this world were kind-hearted and more than willing to help those in need. But there are without a doubt those who would find pleasure in others pain. Unfortunately for her she found such a person.
She listened carefully to his each of his words. It has...been a while....I have been...alright...How have you been...Darkside...? At least the two of them weren't sitting in awkward silence. Even though the conversation was crawling slowly without much real content, she was still fairly happy to just be near Darkside.

It would have been far easier to converse normally if he could reconcile the thoughts and feelings he was keeping below the surface to the current situation in one manner or another. But his emotional turmoil would keep until later, or smooth itself over. For now perhaps the act of conversing would prove an adequate distraction for these things, as well as catching up on the time since their last visit.
-I have been well enough, little Pearl. Things have been remarkably quiet around here without you.- He shifted himself to lay on his belly instead of sitting, in the process bringing the forward part of his body closer to where she was. He would move if she seemed discomfitted by it. -Had I known you would be here today I might not have gone on my little trip and waited for you...-
He shrugged, thinking briefly over that trip and all the confusion it had wrought inside him. None of it had been at all unpleasant but it was just... so strange. So very strange. -It has been a very long time, so I thought I would check and see how that female I rescued was doing. Longer than I had realized, for her kits are grown. But they are doing well... I think you would like them, though they are perhaps a bit too boisterous.- He watched her for a moment, something indecipherable about his posture softening a bit as he did so. -Has anything interesting happened for you in our time apart?-

She recalled this female sounded familiar. If she remembered correctly this female he spoke of was the one he helped when she had her encounter with that Nitemare who injured her so badly. It was nice to hear she and her children were doing well, even though Pearl had never met any of them before. They did help her by leaving behind those healing potions. For that she was grateful to them. Perhaps if the chance should present itself, she would like to meet them.
Nothing particularly interesting happened. Well...maybe making friends with Jayn was considered interesting, considering what she learned. But how would she even relay such information to him? It was something she knew about all along, but Jayn merely put it into words for her to comprehend.
I made some...new friends? was all she could manage to say for now.

It was odd, but Pearl making "new friends" was not something he had expected to hear. He was at once very proud of her and intensely curious, though his face remained as serenely impassive in appearance as it usually did.
-That is good to hear. It is good to have friends.- He relaxed himself a bit, the action causing him to blur a bit around the edges rather than causing any real shift in his position. It was something that Pearl likely wouldn't have noticed, given he was blurry to her eyes already. -Would you tell me about these friends you have met?-

His slight shift was hardly noticeable in her eyes. The color of his body dark in color, with no real "outline" to it. Even his change of facial expressions wasn't noticeable in her eyes. It was just a big blob of blueish colors with two glowing yellow orbs attached to them.
Who should she tell about first? He had already met Dragoon...Oh, Jayn...Right...Jayn. The one who told her what love meant. Because of her Pearl was beginning to understand how she felt about Darkside. How should she start?
Well...She was very nice...Like a mother...She has adopted...kits...And she showed me...this little lake...or pond...It had some...refreshing water...

Darkside was sorry for some of the things that Pearl could not see clearly, but his own person was not one of them. His appearance was, after all, something that most found disconcerting, if not outright frightening.
A gentle and motherly soul this Jayn sounded, one of the sorts of people Pearl probably needed in her life. That seemed a very good thing to him. -Did you enjoy your time at the pond then, little Pearl? What did you do there?- He wondered if, given the weather lately, the water would have been warm enough for her. Perhaps sometime they should go swimming when it was warm out? Hmm.

If her sight was better, she probably wouldn't think Darkside was as frightening as he thought he was. Maybe the few casual encounters with him she would think that, but after getting to know him she would think otherwise. Like the saying goes, "can't judge a book by its cover".
Jayn was definitely a positive aspect to add to her life. Not only did she help Pearl sort out some inner feelings, but she was the much needed kindness the anxious Kitsu needs in her life.
I did not...Do much there...We had some drinks...of water...And talked for a bit...She was nice though...I like her...I think you would...too...

Darkside nodded slowly. Well, at least Pearl seemed to have enjoyed this Jayn's company. Perhaps if the other visited the HQ with any amount of frequency then Pearl would be able to go out with a friend once in a while and learn to open up more. Although Darkside intended to linger closer to the HQ grounds from now on, at least for the most part, it would be much better for Pearl if she had more than one person to interact with and rely on.
-Well, I'm glad you enjoyed it, little Pearl. Hopefully I shall meet her soon.- And why wouldn't he want to meet someone Pearl had called a friend? He cared for her... but the thought was still hard to wrap his mind around, and so he thought to focus on other things. -Did you talk about anything interesting then?-

The two females talked about quite a few interesting things. Especially on the topic of...love. When she thought about what the two of them spoke about Pearl could feel her heart beating a bit faster than usual. It wasn't the same kind of feeling she got when she was nervous around others, it was a bit different this time around.
We talked about...lots of interesting things...
Should she ask? What if he thought she was being weird by asking? It never hurt to ask, right?...
Um...Darkside...What is...'love'...?

If he had truly had a corporeal heart that gentle question would have caused it to skip a beat, and then probably to beat a little faster. But as solid as he could make himself, as much as he could feel now that he had allowed himself to try to, he did not have said organ with which to react thus. Nor did he have to try and contend with swallowing a nervous lump before speaking again. It was difficult enough to try and give her a proper answer while keeping his thoughts from drifting back into that whirlwind circle of his feelings for Pearl. Feelings which seemed determined to make themselves known even if they must tap into the cosmic forces of coincidence...
-Love, little Pearl... is one of those things which you can say what it is without really being able to describe it properly. I can tell you that it is a very strong bond of loyalty and affection that one person has with another... and technically that is what it is, but it does not express the emotion properly. The stronger the love is... the more you want to be around a person, the more you would be willing to do to protect them, the more you want... simply to see them smile.- He paused, the gears in his mind spinning faster in spite of his efforts. -Romantic love also generally holds a certain level of attraction. Often though... even those "in love" have difficulty putting the true depth of the emotion into words.- He paused again, lightly tapping his talons thoughtfully on the floor. -I wax unpoetic with my efforts at explanation, little Pearl, and I am sorry I can not offer a better one. I have seen people do amazing things for the sake of love, but I've not had a lot of experience with it myself. You are the first person I've really been able to call so much as a friend for a very long time.-
Really... the first person he had been able to call friend at all since the point when he came to exist as himself. Before that he had been part of another person, after all... a person he remembered only vaguely and wasn't sure he had always liked being. But that mattered little now.
His thoughts broke off for a moment as he watched Pearl, and it occured to him that whether he was comfortable with it or not he could readily apply all the factors of love he had described to her to his own feelings for her... and probably a few factors he hadn't. He didn't know what to think about it... and it certainly made him feel unsettled. For one such as him to feel such things... did he even deserve to entertain such notions?...
He rested his head on his paws for a moment and closed his eyes. If indeed he was starting to... love her... what would that mean? For something that tended to "just happen", love seemed far too complicated...

The answer he gave her was similar to Jayn's, but much was much more detailed. If Pearl had a mental checklist, many of those items would've been checked off shortly after Darkside's words. Many of the things he told her applied to her. She ached to see him, and though there was no way her eyes could make out such maticulate details such as a smile, she would probably do anything to see him smile.
No...It's ok...I understand now...Darkside is my first friend...and my bestest friend... She replied back in his head. It was a good thing she couldn't speak naturally without echoing words into peoples minds, otherwise her tone of voice would have surely sounded shaken up or nervous. She could feel the blood rushing to her face and her heart racing faster and faster. She hoped he would just pass it off as the different angles of light reflecing on her rather than her blushing, but one can only hope.
This love stuff...is complicated... Pearl was almost certain he just confirmed her answer for her. She was still afraid though...What if he didn't feel the same way about her as she did with him? They were close friends...but would he want more than that?
Feeling a bit nervous, she shifted her weight to her hind-legs. Hey Darkside...? She asked ever so softly...Can I ask...you a question?
