So what is this? As most of you may know, I'm a designer/programmer by trade. I've been putting my skills to good use in creating a better, sleeker, and cleaner Gaia Online experience. Thus, the creation of what I call 'Gaia Redux'.
Essentially, my goal was to remove Gaia's unnecessary navigations, ads, and redundant information as well as cleaning up their code to be consistent and clear.
What does it change? Below is a list of things I've done with 'Gaia Redux' to help make Gaia better: - Near complete ad removal - Complete removal of "Forum Pulse" - Removal of the useless footer - Removal of the Gaia IM button - Removal of the "Need Cash?" and "Need Gold?" button - Fixed the spacing issue with the "( Logout)" text
- Miscellaneous spacing issues surrounding the forums - All the forum fonts as well as title fonts are consistent - Font-sizes in the forum list are smaller to fit more topics without scrolling - Removed topic-voting/sharing. - Fixed the duplicate error messages. (Only 1 error instead of 2) - Rock Puppy is replaced with Chun-Li Selphie - Completely fixed the layout in the bottom window when making a post. - Links change color when going to a potential bad site (ie blacklisting) - Completely overhauled emoticons (they work like they used to) - Rearranged the Post Message page. (for the better)
- Added my own hidden shortcut navigation (similar to what Gaia had before)
How do I get it? Of course, a lot of the list is simplified to get straight to the point. A lot of the coding does take some time and some experimentation to get it to be perfect. If you guys want to give this a shot, you could start by installing two extensions for Firefox:
- Greasemonkey (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/748) - Stylish (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2108)
A restart of Firefox is needed after installation. When you're ready, proceed to the following links:
- http://userstyles.org/styles/3433 - http://userstyles.org/styles/10514 - http://userstyles.org/styles/3452 - http://userstyles.org/styles/5998
On each of those links, click the "Load into Stylish" button and then "Save".
Finally, go to the following link: - http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/12300
Say 'Hi' to my picture and click the "Install" button and click "Install" in the dialog that pops up. Now browse Gaia and check out all the changes!
What if there's something wrong? Though this is touted as something that should've been on Gaia in the first place, be aware that this is still a work in progress (and will probably be this way for a while); so some things will look weird sometimes. If that's the case, the usual explanation is "Gaia changed their coding, Selphie needs to fix this."
That's all there is to it, really. Give it a try and throw some feedback my way. 3nodding
How do I temporarily disable Redux? You do so by right-clicking on the painting icon in the bottom right of your Firefox window, and left-clicking on the list that has a checkmark next to it (be sure to be on a Gaia Online page to do so). This mainly disables the layout on the page. To re-enable, repeat the above on an unchecked item on the list.
To disable the hidden shortcuts, you could click on the monkey icon and reload the page, and it'll stay disabled until you click it again.

I'm using this right now, and it's pretty nice. XD The hidden shortcut links below your gold count's a lot more convenient and useful, and she customized the forum fix so that I can still view people's Aquariums for Booty Grab hunting, while blocking out other people's Gaia-made signatures like the Paul Blart Mall Cop badge, cars, etc.
I certainly like it for the convenience. o_o

Hmm, the tekFormat kinda goes under the Tektek toolbar emoticons.

Yeah, I didn't take the tektek stuff into account because I hate adding additional toolbars. It doesn't really effect things much from the feedback I've gotten, but I'll get to it if it becomes a huge issue.

I think that's a site issue. The My Gaia page hasn't been showing up for me either ever since that weird database error thing. I'm wondering how long it'll be down...

Yeah, that's a site issue. I don't have any styles that effect the My Gaia page.

Images for the shortcuts are going haywire under bandwidth pressure. This is most likely due to people using my script during the event. It'll fix itself over time. (Though, I'm sure my image host is pretty pissed about it)

o.o I'm just letting you know that in the marketplace's Sell Item page, the list of items seem to be positioned... well, in a weird place. >_>

Locke Trufeld o.o I'm just letting you know that in the marketplace's Sell Item page, the list of items seem to be positioned... well, in a weird place. >_> Yeah, I've noticed that too. I still haven't found a fix for it (besides turning off Redux temporarily).
Also, I liked how Redux blocked Gaia's "Free Gaia Cash Offers" page without my intervention.
