The Amityville House just came into my head. I'm actually a bit blurry on the subject..so can somebody tell me what it's really about. I know someone with a beard killed his family ( sweatdrop ), and then new people lived in the house and then the little girl started seeing a creature... I saw it in HIstory Channel but I forgot some of the main ideas.
Discuss: arrow Can ghosts and other supernatural beings stay in the last place they inhabited and make their presence known? arrow Why are haunted houses almost always on top of a hill with dead trees and it's broken down? Shouldn't haunted houses be nice, tidy houses too? Or does the broken down, unlivable house make it ideal for ghosties to live arrow Ever been to a house (maybe your OWN house...) where suddenly it gets cold, rocking chairs rock without anyone rocking it...music turns on..appliances turn themselves on (am not talking about faulty wiring... biggrin )...or you just feel...something...is there? eek arrow Why asparagus grow in spears by themselves (I thought they grew in clumps) arrow domokun arrow Do ghosts pick out a person to show themselves to? (example, if you and your family lived in a haunted house, does it only show itself to you, your younger sibling etc)

As to your first query, I read somewhere that ghosts usually haunt the place wherein they last left their life imprints in. They haunt that place because the spirit is confused and did not cross over, and linger in that place because haunts usually dwell on the subject of their misery, of why they decided not to cross over in the first place. They obsess over the thought and remain in that place.
As to haunted dwellings, I believe our house is haunted.... sweatdrop

I think ghosts can stay where they lived, died, spent a good deal of time or experienced strong emotions. Intelligent hauntings seem quite good at making their presence known or else we wouldn't be talking about them.
Some nice, tidy houses are haunted. There are plenty of ritzy hotels that are haunted, quite far from a run-down shack on a hill. Not to mention suburban ghosts...maybe the haunted run-down houses were just abandoned for being haunted or over the tragic circumstances that made them haunted in the first place. Maybe having the house all to themselves agrees with some spooks, like the ones always recorded as saying 'get out.'
Luckily no appliances are being randomly turned on or thrown across my rooms although I've experienced a good deal of 'cold spots' where I am now, some more unusual than others. They even come around in the middle of summer and seem to move, staying a matter of seconds. Feeling that 'something' is there happens from time to time too - not always in my house. There are some houses on certain streets I just don't like because they 'feel wrong' but there's one tall, white house that looks just like any other on the street which I will not walk by. I'll go two blocks out of my way, up by the cemetary and through a dark alley to keep away from that place - for absolutely no explainable reason, just because it feels sort of repelling to me.
Asparagus are actually young shoots of the genus Asparagus. That's why they don't grow in bunches. smile
I believe that ghosts can pick out who sees them based on different accounts from around my family of my deceased grandmother appearing in households that were her children's, not her own. If a ghost can track down a relative, why can't they ignore them too? xd

Like... um I don't know...they died before they got to tell a secret to their spouse or something?
REally your house is haunted? That's scary. Why do you think this, oh thy Great Mod? heart

All the people who sleep over at my house claim so. And I mean EVERYONE, our maids and my friends and relatives who come to sleep over. They say that our guest room is ominous, they say that someone knocks on the door at three am and there's no one there. Some of them even said that they saw a man outside the window.
This is because someone committed suicide next to that room. sad

The main deal with the Amityville horror was that this guy killed his entire family seemingly in cold blood. So i'm guessing there were probably some restless spirits in there. I do believe that ghosts can choose to show themselves to certain people, I've had some experiences while other members of my family have not, even though we live in the same house.

Example: She went all the way across state lines to get to the baby of the family and her son-in-law but no such effort was made for households closest to her own. Good old Nana! heart sweatdrop

We never tell them about it beforehand, that's why it was so puzzling that they all had the same experiences. confused

My mom (and her siblings and parents verified this) that when they were all upstairs in bed, the faucet in the downstairs tub would turn on.
(I don't know what that has to do with your thing, but I just thought that I would share that tidbit of info.)
