[Pretty will go here later]

Hakuna stretched and yawned, waking with the setting of the sun. This time, however, it was not in her den. This time, it was under the wide open sky, only a tree's branches to bar her view of the darkening aether. She smiled a bit. Much as she loved pride life, she missed little things about being a rogue. The ability to go where you chose, when you chose was one...even now, her decisions were not entirely her own. No...now she was bound by duty as much as pride.

She had left her bone mask at home...now she wore only her bracelets and tail cuffs, her scars visible to all. Here, she was not interested in intimidation, not now. Hakuna smirked as she started towards the scent of water. No, out here, she was in search of something that was not won by intimidation...After all, one could not intimidate a good father for demons. One could only observe, and then choose based off strength of mind and body.

She reached the watering hole, earning some wary glances from the prey-beasts there. But she ignored them and bent down to drink. Hakuna knew better than to break the tense, unspoken agreement of predator and prey at water...No hunting here unless you were a croc.

There was no denying the excitement in the air that came with the setting sun; the prospect of a new night. Durion's spirits were always lifted when the sun was vanishing. He almost laughed at it every time, somehow feeling victorious at the ball of fire's disappearance. And the moon always rose high, draped in elegant robes of wispy clouds as if to laugh a taunting, "Ha-ha, you damn hot sun."

Trailing a tongue across dry lips to erase his smirk, the lion sauntered across the orange savanna, powerful shoulders swaying back and forth with movement. He'd have a quick drink at the watering hole he smelled and then he'd be off for the night.

The pool of water came into view, sun reflecting off its ripples and seeming to make it glow bright yellow. Durion approached it, completely ignoring every beast around him. He bent down, back arching and claws digging into the earth as he lapped thirstily at the cool water.

It was then that his blue eyes shifted and caught the glance of a pair of golden ones directly across from him.

'Hello...' he thought. But he continued to drink.

At first, there was nothing exciting...or noteworthy, really. Hakuna kept her eyes out for a suitable male and saw none. And then her eyes met blue ones, and the lion attached to them. She kept herself from raising a brow...but he didn't look too bad. Proper colors, save for what she suspected was a little white, and good markings. A good size for a rogue. What she wondered, however, was whether he had a mind to go with perceived strength.

She finished drinking...but did not move on. Instead, she observed a moment before making her way around to him. Hakuna was never very good at reigning in her curiosity when outside the pride's borders. And she intended to be very curious when it came to possible males.

The yellow light reflecting off the water turned darker as the sun set further, still. It glittered in the lioness's eyes and Durion found himself extremely interested. She didn't look like any ordinary lioness he'd seen. She looked strong. Durion began projecting an intense feeling; something someone might call an air of 'showing off'. It was tangible in the air, for the few animals surrounding him began to back off and move to other parts of the watering hole.

Durion watched the red lioness, wondering where she was going. He had half a mind to go and introduce himself, but she beat him to it. Trying to hide his grin, the black lion stood and walked to meet the female halfway. As he grew closer, he was surprised at the various scars lining her body; proof of the strength he'd guessed about.

The dark male offered a friendly smile, a gleam in his eyes. "Hello," he said simply.

Hakuna smiled and nodded in greeting. A confident male...that was good. Now, was he worthy of his confidence, or was it affected? "Good evening." He wasn't as large as most of the males in the pride...but he certainly looked like he could hold his own. "What brings you out at such an hour? I don't see many lions out at this time..." It was the truth. Especially in the areas not too far from the pridal lands.

Too many creatures found the area around the pride, as well as the pride, to be...unsettling.

"Just wanderin' around like I usually do." the lion answered casually, blue eyes glancing around at the suddenly clear water hole. Where had everybody gone...? Well, what the hell did it matter, anyway? "Don't see many lions around here at this time, huh?" he echoed, a smirk crossing his face. "Maybe that's because there's an intimidating lioness walking around?" he offered gruffly, still smirking.

Why the hell did he keep smirking?

"A wanderer, hm?" That explained some things. And gave her some ideas. Maybe they were wicked...but Hakuna didn't care. "Perhaps...though that would mean I've done my job." She sat, her tail lazily swishing behind her. "Though I wonder...do YOU find me intimidating, oh grinning rogue?"

Her orange-amber eyes glinted with what little light shone in the night, and the smile on her maw was far from bloodthirsty...but held a certain dangerous air to it. She rather liked this one so far.

Ahh, her job...That must've meant that there was a pride of some kind around, and she was guarding it. Either that, or the lioness just liked scaring the crap out of random strangers. Whatever it was, Durion was quite fond of both possibilities...But too many questions were too many questions. Sometimes a simple conversation was best.

"Well," the lion drawled, "a little...But not in the same sense others might be intimidated." he said lowly, blue eyes flickering over amber. The lion shook the mane out of his face and debated following the lioness's suit of sitting down. He decided against it and remained standing, watching her. Standing made him feel more secure, whether he knew it or not. And something about the lioness would make anyone insecure; of that, he was absolutely sure.

Not that he didn't like it...

"Ha, grinning rogue," the lion repeated, the title only making his smirking problem worse. "How about calling me Durion instead?" he offered quietly.

Well...an honest one. Good. At least...he was being honest now. One still couldn't fully trust a non-demon, but she did not seem to have anything to fear from him...a single male alone. "And how do you find me intimidating?" An honest enough question...and one she was rather curious of the answer for.

"Durion...a good name." She nodded. "I am Hakuna'jina...though if something shorter would be easier, it is Hakuna."
PostPosted: Fri Feb 13, 2009 11:11 am

Hmm, Hakuna'jina...Sounded sexy.

Durion's ears shifted, testing the air for something unseen. His tail flicked at the approval the female gave of his name. He liked his name too, but heck, what did his opinion matter in that situation?

"Hakuna..." the male trilled, testing the name. He smirked, deciding he liked the sound of it. Durion knew the names of a lot of females; a lot. But their names never really mattered. It was just a sound one produced in recognition to the one they were speaking with. However, this female's name had some depth. It was as if her name was a statement. It wasn't just another name. It was interesting. Hell, she was interesting. But Durion didn't want to come on too strong...The red lioness seemed cunning.

"Well, Hakuna, I guess..." he began slowly, answering her question, "...It's because you put me on guard. 'cause you're not...Like other lionesses." he said quietly, face hinting at a grin.

Maybe it sounded crappy saying it, but whatever, right? Maybe it would score him some points?

The crimson lioness couldn't help but chuckle. "Perhaps I am not like others..." She rather liked this male, indeed. But it was best to tread with caution...she didn't need to scare this one off. "Perhaps...I am something more than just a lioness." It was good that he recognized she was different.

If the way she moved and spoke didn't give it away, her eyes did. Eyes that had disheartened many a lion seeking to cross Aikanaro borders...only to meet her unwavering orange-amber gaze. And it was a gaze few non-demons had ever been able to stand long. Hakuna wasn't known for being mild, after all.

"And you are rather different from the males I have seen." So true. He had an air of cunning and strength to him. Not like a demon's...but enough. Oh more than enough. He was the sort of mortal that would not only survive among demons, if he chose, he would thrive.

Man, the evening was getting better and better. it seemed that Durion's turn of bad luck might have been shifting. And he wasn't complaining about that at all.

Yes, she was more than just another lioness...What she was exactly, Durion wasn't completely sure he would be able to comprehend just then. He barely knew her, besides. There would be time for that later. Of course later. He'd meet her again, after all. Once Durion made plans in his head, those plans happened. And the lion's head was full of all kinds of plans. Time was on his side. Speaking of which, the sun was already out of the sky. The conversation seemed so quick, but it was also drawn out, he thought.

The sky was dark indigo with the setting of the sun. The coming of the moon meant it was time for Durion to get out of there. The night was his playtime and he had all kinds of crap he wanted to do.

"I'm glad I found this watering hole." the lion declared boldly, tail swaying like a signal of his departure as he took a few steps to the side. "It would be nice to see it all golden in the sunset again...Tomorrow..." he alluded quietly, blue eyes flickering. "Don't you think?"

Well, well...Hakuna nodded, standing up. "That it would be." She was a little disappointed he was leaving now...but there would be more time tomorrow night. She'd caught his interest, and he'd caught hers. And she was not about to screw it up.

"Perhaps we shall meet again to see it..."
PostPosted: Fri Feb 13, 2009 5:01 pm

So, that was it. She wanted to meet again, too. Well, good. Very good. After his horrible run of bad luck, finally things were looking up. In more ways than one.

Flashing a white grin, the dark lion bowed his good-bye and sauntered off into the trees.

It was going to be a good night.
