I have this phobia of eating from anything other than Porcelain. I know wood can harbour disease and such, and plastic gets discolored and smelly quite easily n.n My mother thinks i'm ridiculous, but my s/o is kind of the same way =S So i had to ask what you guys eat from, and which is 'healthiest' germ wise. * What do you prefer? * Do you have reasons for your choice?

Actually, in tests, bacteria will last longer on plastic cutting boards than wood...

I use a motley grouping of random porcelain plates and such. I'd love some wood bowls or plates. My mom used to have large wooden bowls and I always loved them.

I can never seem to get plastic clean... a greasy film always remains gonk gonk
I love wood for cutting boards and spoons, but it seems like it would be a pain to clean for plates and bowls. Porcelain and the like is popular for a reason. It feels good, it's easy to clean, pretty much the only downside is that it's breakable.
When I have kids I will get enameled metal plates and bowls and cups for them until they can be trusted with china and glass ninja I like enameled metal too!

@ Jestina

We use, or have used, all of them.
When we were kids, everything was melamine----it was tough and easy to clean. Mom would always add a little bleach to the rinse water once a week and soak everything for a bit before a final rinse, and even though it ended up in the camper, and then the boat, it always looked great.
When these kids were little I did the same thing with all the tupperware dishes that they had. No problem. Passed them down when the grandgirls came, and then they went on to someone else. The bleach rinse kept them looking new, except for the inevitable scratches on the plates.
That being said, I absolutely hate plastic. I'd rather use some type of ceramic, and glassware. I know it's all in my head, but plastic just cheapens the meal, for me. I like a nicely set table and good conversation, or music, or the birds singing, with a meal. There's enough stress and hurry in the world, and I don't want that when I eat. If I can't enjoy a meal, I'll just wait, thank you.
We have wood bowls and platters, etc., too, and enjoy using them. I just wash them very quickly in very hot detergent and water, rinse, dry thoroughly, and oil them. Seems like a lot of work, but, then again, I like using them, so it's worth it to me.
We also have some enamel-on-steel plates and bowls that I've had since the 70's. They have suffered some chips over the years, but no rust, and I swear that they are the kids' favorites. Every one of them has said that they want them when I don't want them anymore, and they'll use the mugs even though it takes almost forever for tea or cocoa to cool in them. Maybe I should get them all a set for Christmas next year!

Where's the poll?! scream
Currently, I'm eating off of Ikea dishes. I'm not sure what they are. I don't like eating from plastic, and if I need storage I have small glass jam jars that I use.
We've got some stainless steel mixing salad bowls.
Growing up, we had some old camping enamel on steel bowls. They were my favourites.
Bamboo bowls are expensive. Like $70 FOR A BOWL. !.

We eat from porcelain. I think it's the easiest to clean, but it was also the cheapest at IKEA. rofl

Unless there's no other option, I eat and drink from glass/ceramic/porcelain. I started doing this a few years back when I realized just how nasty plastic makes things taste. xp

I eat off of porcelin. I wanted to get some of those bowls that are carved out of roots, but each one is about the same price as the porcelin dish set that I bought; and that serves six.

As everyone else has said, porcelain and wood are both good. :3 (Omg, that rhymed. : D) But I`m pretty sure plastic isn`t all that good to use. I think steel is rather good, too.

I hate eating or drinking out of plastic, it just always seems dirty to me, and I never seem to be able to get it as clean as I would like. I tend to eat off of porcelain and drink out of glass or porcelain.
