I decided to make a thread to talk about how Raito has changed. I know it's been discussed before in different places... but now, here's a place to do it again.


We all know how Raito started out. Rather wide-eyed and optimistic and innocent... still pure if you will.

Stuff happened, he became corrupt.

That change has been talked about a lot. I think there was another change though. Let's look at Raito while L was still around (note: I didn't say dead... *slipping back into denial* ... oi that makes me think of that Duel Masters show and when that one woman said 'denial rhymes with smile' ... since that is sooo true!)... er... got side tracked there... Anyway~

Yeah, Raito back then... he was smart. He planned ahead to where it was unfathomable really. But now... he's always getting one upped by Near and Mello.

It is true that Raito had a few more pawns to move then though... still though-- I'm rather disappointed in Raito! But, also rather happy at the thought of him finally getting what he deserves!

Well, he could always not of taken them seriously too, now that I think about it... but, now he should be taking them seriously. So hopefully, Raito will get back to as smart as he use to be, so things can be interesting at least again.

I'd say he got such an ego-boost after L...went to that faraway place....that it didn't do him well.

I think L is haunting visiting him every night and messing with his brain.

I used to like Light, but after reading ahead and discovering some spoiler, I decided that he deserved to be captured.

I think one of the reasons that Light's not as smart anymore is because all the Death Note buisness is starting to wear him out. In Volume 3, Ryuk mentioned that all past holders of the Death Note have had nothing but misfortune. At that point, Light disagreed, but now, years later, I think it's finally catching up to him. After all, (highlight for spoiler) because of him using the Death Note, his father was killed and his sister fell into a irreversable state of shock. Though Light is now more corrupt than he was before, he still might feel guilty over what happened. That would ruin his concentration, hence the current stupidity.

A simpler and more probable reason could be that the author is simply running out of ideas. After a series has continued for a while, the storyline sometimes goes downhill and the characters start losing their flair. The author could have just run out of ways to make Light seem smart.
