i've being playing for a year now and haven't changed my strings since i bought my bass. all my strings are completely dead now and im wondering what are the best strings i should get.

elixers, or my favorite: FENDER flat-wound.

I prefer the GHS Boomers. They give a great sound for rock and metal.
If your looking for a more Jazzy sound, Elixer half wounds.

I got a pair of d-addario's that arnt wound or anything, they're basically just like, made of steel, and thats it., its weird.

For my Yamaha, I go with either boomers or black diamond. For my fender jazz.. well, I stick with fender.

Well, on my Yamaha I have a set of Warwicks. They have a nice bright tone to em. And on my fretless Warwick, I use D'addrio half-wounds, which wont tear up my fret board yet let me have the ring of a fretted bass.

Im wondering, does anyone know how the Fender stainless steel strings sound? Im interested in them but I dont want to mess up again with buying strings....
The ones I have now are D'addrio round wound, and the guage is .5 bigger. But I dont like them, they sound so damn icy

Fender stainless steel roundwound aren't half bad. (They get the job done anyways.) As far as I can tell, Elixers and Dean Markley Blue Steels will be your best bet for best strings in my book.. though the price (for the Elixers mostly) are also enough to make you second guess wanting to get them... especially if your on a tight budget. smile
As far as what im using right now, I'm currently using Nickleplated Fender Super Bass strings on my main axe, and I have to say, they sound pretty good. 3nodding

I dunno. Elixer strings are usually better in the smaller guages, like on guitars.
But like I said, the half wounds have a nice mellow jazzy sound.
Someone above mentioned Black Diamonds. I love Diamond. They sound great and look cool if you get the coated ones.
But I'm happy with my Boomers biggrin

I'm either getting Elixers for Christmas or going to my local GC and picking up some heavy ones.
I currently have some regular Ernie Ball ones. I would prefer the heavy but my mom bought them and went with what the salesman said.
Because HE would know more about bass than a bassist of course
[The guy even SAID he didn't know much, that he played guitar. But no.]
Anyways, it's however you like the sound.
