[OoC: Only WOLVES are allowed to participate in this RP. No humans!]

Stardust sat upon the hill a short distance from the fort walls, glancing down at the white woodlands below that called to her wild ancestral instincts. A wolf could never deny the urge to hunt for blood, running free through the wilderness and chasing after a prey that may never be brought down. As much as she appreciated the easy meals provided by the human-raised livestock in the valley, she would never miss the rush of hunting. And it had been awhile since the pack had done so, listless and mournful after the most recent tragedies. But they had been quiet for far too long, and she thought a run through the woods would relieve their minds of the stress. Then tomorrow, once their bellies were satiated, she would force them back into vigorous training.

A delicate sniff as the wind swept by the Alpha, sweeping in the scent of bison herd closeby. The bovines rarely ventured so close to the fort as they could smell the wolves all over the area, so food must be extremely scarce this winter. Better for her pack then as they would not need to run as far as usual. It was a rare treat to be able to roam the outskirts of the valley without worry of encountering a centipede without their human riders. That was not a common occurence but it still happened occasionally, three times so far in her life; they had been lucky to only encounter one centipede each time and the pack had been able to easily dispose of the larger predators without human help. They rarely suffered serious losses when facing the centipedes alone, though death was unavoidable when defending against half a dozen of the abominations. But they had never been as devastated as a month ago...

A brief thought passed her mind as she wondered if SnowySky would join them tonight, not knowing the full extent of his injuries - both physical and emotional. The older Alpha had been keeping to himself since the death of Moonstride, but no one really knew if he was simply recovering his leg or still mourning the loss of his mate. Nobody dared to press him either, for he was still their respectable and somewhat feared leader. And they still had Stardust to lead them, which she found quite natural and easy unlike her human. Stardust took the opportunity given to her with stride, more excited by the prospect of leading the pack alone in a hunt than anxious.

Lifting her nose to the rising moon, Stardust howled into the dark night, a soft but deep song that was hers and hers alone. Her call drifted quietly over the sleeping ears of the humans but reached the minds of her wolves, beckoning them to her as she released another soft howl into the night.

Pacing restlessly from one tree to the other, the female cast a glance at the opening to her den, her mind wondering from the dream she had woken from to her Rider. Humans were so complicated! Vala was refusing to speak about what was bothering her, and it was annoying the fur off of Feathershroud. To hell, as she often heard the Humans say, with her peaceful front! She should know by now that whatever is going on in her little head affects me. Putting a stop to her constant moving, the Burgundy Wolf snorted as she realized she had worn a track through the snow. She had to do something, anything, whatever it took to rid her of the feelings that had been slowly growing in her breast. They hadn't been training recently because of the injuries they had sustained in the last battle with the centipedes, though it was more Vala's injury that was preventing them from practicing. The gash on her leg was still healing, and because of it her balance was thrown off, the one thing you really needed when riding on the back of a wolf.

Pricking her ears forward as a Wolven song diffused throughout the Fort, the Gamma had half a mind to respond with her own voice, a song filled with all of her feelings. Maybe whatever was bothering her Rider had to do with the Lost Wolfpairs. Whatever it was, Feathershroud knew it was making her as antsy as a youngling when facing their first battle. Leaping over the lip of the rut she had made, the female slipped away from the silent living quarters, her coat standing out against the snow like a streak of Wine. Her strides elongating the farther she drew away from the building, Feathershroud picked up a powerful lope, trying to let her listlessness out through the beat of her paws against the frozen flakes. Having to slow only to wait for the Gates to open, the Gamma picked up her pace once again, tossing her head as her muscles began to unwind. The pain from her injury pulsed in rhythm with her strides, but it didn't hurt enough to bother her any, it was more of a reminder and a bother than anything else.

Another howl, a soft howl, emitted forth through the moonlit night, calling her to the source. Alphas had a powerful connection to all wolves, and it didn't take long for Feather to puzzle out in which direction her leader was located, she felt compelled to answer the mind call. Hot air from her nose collided with the cold air of the world, creating a stream of visible breath that trailed to the side as she ran. Maybe they'd hunt tonight. The moon was bright and there was a distinct musk on the wind, and it had been a long time since the pack had run together in chase. Tossing her head as she reduced her speed, Feathershroud slowed to a trot as she neared her Alpha, sending the feathers of her broach swaying. Tucking her ears back and her tail under her belly, the Gamma lowered herself to the ground as she approached, stopping completely on her belly at a respectful distance. /Greetings Alpha. It is a fair moon tonight./

Image's, words, idea's, they all seemed to dance around the small wolf's mind as she looked around the extremely large den. True she had been told she would grow into it one day but right now, right this moment it was lonely. Shifting her hind leg she glanced at the direction of where Chehero was sleeping, she wanted so much to wake her, so much to do anything right now. They had only just arrived and all Feathermist really wanted to do was learn more, she felt out of place being so small and being the youngest here.

Whimpering as a soft song reached her ears, Feathermist's head bolted off the ground her ears flashing strait forward. Confused and yet somewhat curious, the adolescent wolf rose to her feet rather awkwardly. Then the song died, feeling a sense of longing Feathermist blinked and walked to the edge of her den peering out into the night. Then the song came again, the very same one, and a small form of energy seemed to pulse through her now. Like the beckon to come and play, this would be the answer to her restless night, and still allow Chehero to sleep.

Stepping out of the Cave Feathermist bolted forward following the song, the same song that melded almost subconsciously into that of the... Alpha? Feathermist had never met the alpha of the pack, she had only met Feathershroud so far. Running harder with eagerness she quickly reached two wolves one she recognized as Feathershroud, the other must be the alpha. Lowering her head she followed her instincts, instincts that had never been tout her but seemed to course through her mind moving her body almost subconsciously. Ears pressed back against the fur of her head, her tail moving and pressing tightly against the underside of her form.

A small whimper escaped her as she inched forward on the ground, afraid she wasn't going to be welcomed. Afraid she would be told this wasn't a place for someone so new and so young. Feathermist only wanted a small amount of physical contact from the other wolves, a language she could understand well compared to the complications of the human language. One she was struggling to know considering she had only been bonded no more than a few days.

The air was frigid and growing colder in the night, but the cold was refreshing, bringing life to sluggish limbs and heightening the senses. It fed energy to the tired soul, and made the mind sharper, more alert. At least, so thought Silversoul as he gazed up at the glittering stars above. For the five thousandth time, he was lonely. Was he selfish, to feel so lonely now? No close friend sat beside him to share the beauty of the night and keep him company, no Iris, his beloved rider.

What started out as a long run with Iris had turned into a short visit to White Shadow, and then a longer stay when the girl developed a ridiculous infatuation with some Private. For several days now, Silversoul had been left largely to himself, much to his discomfort and hurt. He knew Iris loved him, but there was only so much a wolf could do. His rider was lonely, but in a different way. Twenty-three now and motherly by nature, she wanted a family that only a human could give her.

A long, mournful howl suddenly broke him from his miserable thoughts, alerting him of another wolf's presence not too far away. Ears pricking forward in anticipation of some companionship, he trotted away from the Fort and into the woods outside its walls. An Alpha, his senses told him. He could feel the presence of authority from far away, an instinct that had once helped him get into mischief as a pup, but which now was a simple knowledge. Well, that and the female Alpha of White Shadow did have a distinctive voice.

Instinctively, and out of a learned respect as well, he laid his ears back long before he reached Stardust, slowing as soon as he saw her silhouetted against the moonlight. Though small for an Alpha, she had the distinctive height and high head and tail carriage of her rank. Immediately he tucked his tail under his body and lowered himself towards the ground. Atypical of a wolf, he showed a deeper respect to the female than he would to a male of the same rank. Another result of Iris' strange human influence.

The air hangs heavy with mourning, Alpha, but I feel the rush of excitement in the air. Is it a hunt?
