It was very late into the night--Or maybe it was very early morning? The moon was low in the sky, misty clouds draping it like robes. It glowed softly, ready to dip down into the sky and disappear.
Durion frowned, not wanting it to go away just yet. The lion was in the habit of staying up quite late when the moon was full so that he could watch it. He felt a strange connection to the moon when it was in that state. He was never quite sure why. Skepticism aside, Durion just liked the full moon. Maybe that was just it.
Sighing, the male stopped his late-night walk to rest in the grass and look up at the moon for a little longer.
He never suspected that something would interrupt his watch.

Pink eyes focused, head low, shoulders swaying powerfully with each long step, Sellion walked across the grasslands in the middle of the night. He was far too busy for sleep that evening. He had more important things to tend to than sleep.
He had his mission to look after...
The moon lit up his path, despite the rather lackluster glow it had taken on at the approach of day. But Sellion rarely looked at the sky. The world around him was far too interesting for him to be staring into space.
...Well, he sometimes spaced out at the sky...BUT THAT WAS NOT IMPORTANT.
It had been a few hours and Sellion was beginning to feel weakness in his legs. Even though the night was cool, his body was heated from the exercise. He needed a place to plop and rest. But not just any place. The place had to be fit for him; fit for the soon-to-be-ruler-of-the-world. But where was such a place? Surely such an area didn't exist in those boring grasslands. But then...
He saw it.
A perfect spot with flattened grass, no rocks (save one rather large one), no trees, and the moonlight shone on it like a spotlight. Sellion grinned, eyes glittering. YES. That was the spot. He pranced over to it like a cub. When he got there however, he slowed down. The large rock he had seen wasn't a rock.
It was a lion.
"...Creature?" Sellion called almost in a whisper. He wondered with glee if the dark-colored thing was a demon...?

Durion jumped, heart in his throat, and was on his feet in split seconds.
Hair already bristled to the max, the lion whipped around to face the owner of the voice he had heard. What he saw was a rather disheveled-looking black and--Pink?-- cheetah. This cheetah was staring at him. And smiling. And twitching his ears. His hair was curled strangely in places, as though sticky, and he almost looked...Excited? Or curious. Durion wasn't sure. Whatever the case, he wasn't happy to see a stranger in the middle of his moon-watching. He preferred his solitude just then.
"Who the hell are you?" Durion asked roughly, glaring. "And what the hell do you want?" He wanted to make sure the cheetah knew he was not welcome.

Sellion grinned, tail swaying almost like a dog's.
This stranger was a lovely, shiny stranger. The moonlight reflected off of the lion's coat beautifully, lighting up the delightful, deep blue patterns...What magnificent wings that adorned his back...Truly it was a demon before him. Maybe he was related to the very demons who murdered Sellion's family? He certainly looked as if he could be. Just the thought of that gave Sellion chills.
Getting over his shudder, Sellion bowed his head politely in greeting as he introduced himself.
"I am Sellion, good sir. And I am..." but his mind wandered mid-sentence. What was he doing again...? Speaking to this wonderful demon lion under the moonlight, yes...But...Hmm...Perhaps he had been hunting. Yes, hunting. But for what? Something tasty. Tasty flesh. Hunting for tasty flesh...Flesh of what?
Sellion tilted his nose to the sky, mouth agape, and stared, thinking.

Okay...
This guy was nuts.
Durion was the most charming male he knew (when he had to be), but he didn't do so well with the crazies.
It was obvious that the cheetah had something wrong in that messy-looking head of his. Whatever the reason, the cheetah was a little...Off. And Durion was not in the mood to deal with that. Unfortunately, Durion knew from past experience that if you ignored a crazy person, chances were they wouldn't ignore you.
Durion sighed agitatedly, head hanging low. He'd have to do something about this...How to act? He didn't know.
Crazies were completely unpredictable.
"I'm Durion." the lion said stiffly, taking a chance on returning the introduction. He'd know which path to take with just a few more words from that cheetah...

Sellion's pink eyes lit up, some spark of acknowledgment and admiration kindled in his gaze. He pointed his head down to look at the lion again.
"Du-ri-on..." the cheetah echoed slowly. A slow grin stretched across the black and pink face, fangs glinting in the ever-dimming moonlight. The mist of the early-morning had begun to set in, though there was no sign of the sun yet. A sweet-smelling musk clung to the air and stuck to the inside of Sellion's nose and throat, creating a pleasant feeling. For a moment, his mind wandered to visions of misty mornings in the savanna in front of the den where he and his family had once slept. But he snapped back to reality quickly.
"...Your name is similar to mine!" he said, paws twitching against the wet grass. "Se-lli-on...Du-ri-on..." A shudder ran through the cheetah's body, and it showed. He grinned wider, eyes dancing as he gazed upon the black and blue lion.
"Are we going to be friends?!" he nearly giggled.

By the way the cheetah fidgeted, grinned, thought hard on his words and giggled, Durion began to piece together just what type of crazy the cheetah was.
It didn't look good.
The cheetah was a particularly bad kind of crazy. He seemed happy, yes. Good-natured? Nearly. But both of those things were sure signs of a ready-to-snap mind. All it would take from Durion was one word...One phrase that happened to click oddly with the cheetah, and the cheetah would explode. Durion could sense that plainly. He had to be careful; light in the tongue. But did he have the patience for that? The bottom of the moon was touching the earth now. It would vanish soon. Durion didn't have time to be screwing around with a crazy cheetah. However, there was getting around it.
"Yeah," Durion began slowly, trying to hide his calculating glance. "they are similar." Agreeing with the cheetah was the best thing he could've done. But the next question had his mind in knots.
Friends?!
Oh, hell...
Maybe if he was really quiet, the cheetah would think Durion just hadn't heard him...?

Sellion's body did a strange half-circle twirl in front of the lion, somehow getting even more excited at the sound of the "demon" lion's voice. Though his first two encounters with real demon lions had ended quite badly, the cheetah was not put off in the slightest. In fact, it had spurred him on even more. It had raised the adoration he had for all demon lions. And seeing this lion in front of him after not having seen a real demon lion in so long was making him feel positively giddy.
And Sellion did strange things when he was giddy.
"So you are a demon, yesss? YES?" the cheetah pried, inching ever closer. His eyes were constantly moving over Durion's coat, taking in every color, every hair, the way his muscles stood out, the way his fangs glinted, the way his pupils had turned to slits. Surely the lion was from hell.
"Tellme, tellme," Sellion began hastily, grappling with reality. "Have you seen Chana? You should've seen her." he chattered on, stumbling closer until he was face-to-face with Durion, noses nearly touching. "She would've been--" but his words were cut off abruptly as pain exploded on the side of Sellion's face and he was knocked off his own four feet.

Damn it all.
Now he'd done it.
DAMN IT.
If there was one thing Durion tended to hate about himself (on a few occasions) was his temper. It took very simple things to set him off. Simple things in the eyes of others, but they were enough to send the lion on a rampage. That's precisely what the cheetah had done.
Durion had been okay with just standing there for a few more moments, listening to the inane blabbering coming from the cheetah's mouth...Even though he knew his patience would run thin after a while of that, he was prepared to listen until then. Because by then, maybe the cheetah would've decided to wander off? Or maybe Durion would've thought up a way to leave? But of course, none of that happened. Instead, the Sellion got too close. And because of that, Durion had lost it.
In the instant he felt the cold wetness of the cheetah's nose just barely touch his, the lion's black paw moved, as if by itself, and slammed into the side of Sellion's face.
Now all hell would break loose, and there was nothing Durion could do but wait.
As that thought passed through the lion's mind, he heard a chilling giggle. The hair stood up along his spine and he stared at the fallen cheetah's back.

The night air was beginning to feel like early-morning air. It was sweet and misty, cool and relaxing. Sellion was grinning, eyes closed. He was lying on his side from where he had been knocked off his feet, cheek pulsing violently, the irony taste of blood trickling through his mouth.
"Aaahheahahahahahaaaa..." he giggled. The laughter quieted into silence. He sucked in a long, deep breath, the oxygen traveling through his throat and into his lungs completely audible. The breath was at its peak and he held it for a few moments.
Then he erupted into ear-splitting laughter.
In an almost invisible blur movement, Sellion sprang to his feet and sprinted for the lion, jaw gaping and slender arms stretching open to collect his opponent in a vice-grip. In mere split seconds, the cheetah was on top of the lion's back, teeth digging into and ripping flesh.
The blood of a demon tasted so...so good.

The moon was halfway dipped into the sky, clouds dispersing at the first sign of dawn. Sellion's giggle was an eerie signal to the start of the new day. It sent a shiver down Durion's spine and he merely stood there, staring at the back of the cheetah.
He never expected the cheetah to lunge at him.
Durion only had time to make a strange "snik" sound of surprise before he felt the cheetah upon him, chewing into his body. There was a spray of blood to his left and the lion's eyes bulged in shock.
The cheetah meant to kill.
Instinct took over and the lion threw himself to the ground, rolling onto his back to crush the cheetah in an attempt to remove him. But his plan backfired. The cheetah was stuck under his back, yes, but his arms were tight around Durion's neck, jagged claws digging into skin and cutting off his breathing. Sellion was not letting up, and Durion was being pinned on his back, unable to stand. Panic set in as the lion realized his error, which only abetted his suffocation since it rapidly sped up his heartbeat.
Letting out a choked growl, Durion slashed at the cheetah's arms, successfully ripping them open and letting out a splash of blood. He heard the other male yelp and felt him release his arms.
Durion jumped up and stood on the crimson-dyed grass, ready to counter the next attack.

Crying out and seething with pain, Sellion remained on his back in the bloodied grass, arms trembling out in front of him pathetically. The blood oozing from the deep wounds was more than enough to frighten the cheetah. Such wounds were very, very threatening. Sellion's legs were the keys to his survival. If he didn't have his legs, his speed, then he was merely a defenseless cub.
Moaning weakly with pain, the black and pink cheetah rolled onto his feet and attempted to stand. His knees buckled and he was on his stomach again, cradling his bleeding forearms. He nursed them gently, completely ignoring the angry lion behind him. But he only ignored him for a few short moments. Because very soon, he remembered where he had gotten those deep, nasty slash wounds from.
Trembling head turning to glance over his right shoulder, Sellion glared at the panting lion. He was just standing there, staring. And Sellion stared right back. Then the cheetah grinned, vicious pain pulsing through his arms.
He had just fought with a demon lion. And the demon lion had slashed gaping wounds in his forearms.
A shudder of pleasure traveled through the cheetah and he ran his tongue across the wounds slowly, seeming to savor the slight taste of Durion's claws. Yes, demon claws.
Sellion remained still, cleaning his wounds gently and eying the lion all the while, perhaps wishing for the fight to continue.

Durion's lips curled in a strange sneer of disgust as he watched the cheetah nurse his wounds. Seeing Sellion tend to himself while smiling and shuddering, staring at Durion as if happy, only reaffirmed the lion's belief that the cheetah was completely and utterly insane.
But now was his chance to get out of there. Durion had his own gaping wounds to think about. He could feel the cold morning air blow into the gaps in his flesh, cooling down the hot blood. It wasn't a pleasant feeling. Collecting his thoughts, the lion turned away from the cheetah and limped away quickly, not bothering to look back and make sure the cheetah was staying down. Even if Sellion decided to get up, he was much less a threat than he had been at first. A cheetah without even one leg was completely useless and nearly defenseless. But that didn't matter to Durion. He just wanted out of there.
Spitting blood from his mouth, the lion continued onward, glancing every now and then to the flaming line of light that was the rising sun.
He had missed the moon set.
