What do you think, should I buy a new amp or a multi effect?

My intention was to save for a new amp, but then I thought that maybe I could do the same things with a multi effect.

I now have a Roland Micro Cube, but I can't get the sounds I want from it, and that's why I wanted a new one.

So, what do you think?

what sounds do you want?

try mic-ing up your current amp and see what it sounds like. remember different angles make different sounds.

is this sound something you want live? or do you really only need it for recording?

Well, the problem is that my current amp has the sounds ready on it so I can't modify them at all. There's only volume, gain, tone, delay and some effects.

When I use the 'classic' set, it sounds a bit dank. And I want it to sound clearer.

I need it for both. Though I don't actually record anything, nor play in live shows.

Clearer, like warmer?

I went to the shop and played with the Roland Micro Cube a little while. I used a few different guitars, to see what is sounded like. Below, I've got the best and the worst of what I found. Both looking at the JcClean setting.

Nice Ibanez Aucoustic:
Pretty weird actually. Made some interesting sounds, but this amp is definitely designed for electric guitars. Even on the JcClean set up sounded a little strange razz

Telecaster With Fralin Blues Special pickups:
Sounded pretty awesome! Wack on the JcClean with just a TINY bit of gain, up the volume... You can play some nice clean rhythm and even some kinda fingerpicking stuff, Eric Clapton style. I ended playing tears in heaven and wound up goin through the whole album with that setting haha!

on both guitars:
I know it wasnt the clean settin but... I wacked some nice shredding high gain s**t and did some cool little tapping... Dude that thing was horrible... That thing sucked more than a vacum cleaner on steroids! If you're doin some shreddy stuff group an effects box or something. Analog effects usually sound better then those digital ones that are on the amp.

So I reckon that little amp is pretty awesome! I wouldn't use that tremelo (don't trust it with the sounds its poppin out) But man, that is one nice little black box eh?

I reckon you should go out to your shop and try a fender amp. Theres one (forgot the model brand) that has these settings where it kinda simulates other amps, like a hard kinda british amp and stuff like that (also with some cool built in efects, nice chorus).

But don't ditch this amp! I reckon maybe check out this couple minute demo I found on youtube.

It goes through the different main settings you could use. I reckon some experimenting with this could help you get the sound you want. Might also depend on the pickups of your guitar?

onyl had a minute to type this out, might check back later.. see ya smile

Ok, thanks biggrin

Edit: I checked out the video, and I think it's the pickups... cause I've never gotten sounds like that. I use Epiphone Les Paul and he has a Stratocaster and Les Pauls have a pretty much darker sound.

Then again, I'm not very experienced with amps, so I might be doing something wrong.
