It was a calm day in the dry lands the the mare called home, though the sun had been brutal that day. After about half a day of searching, she had managed to find an oasis where she now laid. It was a nice, small area with the greenest grass she had seen in a long time. After taking a drink of water, she had taken shelter under the small cluster of trees, which provided a nice bit of shade from the unrelenting sun. And there she laid now, looking out over the dry lands, her eyelids getting heavy in the afternoon daze.

Back then.. he had lived a free life.

Contrary to the teachings of his elders and the doctrines laid out by his parents... the younger Sandsablaze allowed not only his mane and tail to grow long, but the hair about his feet was also cultivated into long shimmering waves that caught and reflected the sunlight and sent ripples of light across the underside of his belly that was otherwise untouched by the sun. Though he had lacked the little golden trinkets that (or so he thought) made his flashy smile flash all the brighter, he had enough confidence for two young stallions.

Knowing what he did now, he supposed he would have heeded their words and made himself less of a target.. but back then.. well.... he DID have a few fond memories to convince himself that he hadn't been all that wrong...

Releasing a long yawn, the young brightly colored palomino stallion shook out his long mane to reactivate his brain and bring himself across this last bit of desert. According to his father there should be an oasis ahead, but given Sandi's predilection to stop listening the moment his father opened his mouth, he honestly wasn't one hundred percent certain that he was even heading in the right direction. Old Sandfire wasn't (by a long shot) something pretty to look at, and with his penchant for drawling on and on about proper behavior and life quests... it really shouldn't be all that big of a surprise.

In retrospect, he could admit that failing to listen to directions was a bit like cutting off his nose to spite his face.

Nonetheless, when a distance green shimmer DID resolve itself into the promised oasis, Sandsablaze released a triumphant whinny and raced headlong the rest of the way, heedless for any other individuals.. and completely oblivious to any that would actually try sleeping!

Her eyes suddenly flew open as she heard the sound of approaching hooves. She had always had heightened senses, ever since she was a child. It was one of the many gifts that was part of her race. At the sound of these hooffalls, she stood up. She didn't want to be caught unawares, and she also wanted to be presentable to anybody new she might meet.

As she stood up, she saw the approaching Soquili approaching from a distance at a decent speed. She tossed her mane and tail, straightening them out, again wanting to look presentable to any new face. She sighed and shifted her weight as she waited, the tassels that hung from her saddle swaying.

Having crossed a considerable amount of sand to reach this patch of green, Sandi's priority was understandable.. he wanted something to drink.. and he wanted it NOW.

Likewise, the presence of the lovely mare went by mostly unnoticed at first, though not because she was hard to miss or easily forgettable. In fact, Sandi considered himself to be something of a ladies' man, and given any other set of circumstances, he would have done his best to present himself in the most desirable light possible. But be the situation as it were, he was pretty darn thirsty, and long ago his mind must have cultivated some sort of survivalist alter ego to protect him in situations like this when his worldly desires would have more then likely caused him one hell of a stomach ache later on. His body needed nourishment, and damn the consequences to his overly inflated self esteem.

So without further adieu, he plummeted(long golden hair all awry) straight through the outskirts of the oasis and plunged headlong towards the closest water source... which happened to be a nice little spring.

When she did not see the stallion slowing down, she took a step back, closer to the trees she had taken shelter under. She watched as the stallion passed right past her and towards the spring. She blinked a few times before turning and following the stallion down to the spring. She had a smooth, slow gait, her long tail dragging behind her. As she approached the drinking stallion, she cleared her throat gently and smiled.
"Apparently you were quite thirsty. I've never seen somebody run straight past a complete stranger like that without even introducing one's self."
She let out a single chuckle and tossed her forelock to the side, the golden tassel brushing against her forehead, and her golden horn catching the sunlight.
