"Lucien, if you don't get back here right this minute, I swear to God I'm gonna hafta haul your a** into the supervised play area and leave you there and never ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever come back."
Lucien giggled loudly and ducked under a clothes rack, his feet flung out in front of him. Blatantly ignoring his mother's threats, he tugged at a pair of cargo pants that were tickling his face and oops'd as they crumpled into his lap. The boy then began pulling at the other articles circling him, gleeing as they fell into a heap around him. Grace, unamused, stalked forward and grabbed Lucien by his tell-tale feet and slid him out from underneath the rack. Lucien blinked doe-eyed at Grace and grunted as she heaved him over her shoulder, twisting uncomfortably as she shrugged against his weight. The two made their way towards an array of colourful balls, building blocks, and playpens (which in all honesty was a complete ********), Grace semi-glancing at the sign hung against the window before jarring to a halt.
Rhys's Rainbow Fun Land A magical place of fun and wonder for children seven and under.
Growling as Lucien squirmed against her arms, Grace marched towards the play area and lifted the boy from her shoulders, eying the room suspiciously, before placing the boy on the floor and ruffling his hair.
"...Kiddo, if you keep giving me that look I promise you I'm gonna follow through with my threat of never coming back. Do not think I'm kidding." Straightening her back, Grace ran a hand through his hair and turned, disregarding the fluorescent pink please sign your child in rule written against the door.. Lucien watched her retreating back with a pout and slumped. What was the fun of shopping with his mom if he couldn't actually shop with her?

Hale Elora had been deposited by her mom sometime before the colourful boy and his odd guardian arrived, and was currently staring at the boy with mirth written all over her face. This was the funniest thing that'd happened since she'd been left behind!
Which didn't say a lot. For being a playroom in such a large chain-store, it was nearly abandoned and only the lethargic supervisor, a few napping toddlers and Hale Elora populated the place. And now Lucien too, of course.
The little girl toddled closer to the newcomer, not at all comfortable on her legs - not that she'd show it, of course. Let them think whatever they want, but never that she wasn't confident.
"Hiiiiiya!" She was still working on that pronounciation thing, too.

Lucien craned his head to stare at the small girl waddling towards him. It was instantaneous; with unpremeditated force the boy's how-could-she-leave-me-here-alone look was superseded by a look of unadulterated gaiety. Perhaps this abandonment wasn't to be such a grim experience after all. Perhaps he could even, fingers-crossed, make a new friend.
"Hiiiiiya," he parroted, thrusting out a hand; he wasn't exactly sure what it meant to "shake hands", but Grace and the TV-people did it all the time so apparently it was essential in the art of introducing yourself. If it were up to him, well, both hands and arms would be involved. Oh well, he'd hug her later.
"I'm Lucien. What's your name?"

Hale Elora wasn't entirely sure what the whole shaking hands-thing was about either, but monkey see, monkey do.
"Hail Elra." The little girl ceremoniously stuck her hand out, nodding and adopting her most serious look. (It was not all that successful, to be entirely honest.) She was really, really not very good at this pronounciation thing, but luckily there were no-one but Lucien to hear it.
"You veir.. colour." She leaned over to get a closer look at his eyes, thoroughly fascinated by the two different colours - hell, this beat her sister's boring wings hands down, any day of the week. Hale Elora had never, ever seen anyone with bi-coloured eyes before and she was not letting this opportunity to examine the first specimen she found go lightly.

"Hello Hale," Lucien chirped. "Thank you. You have really pretty hair."
This was not, perhaps, the best of compliments, but it was the truth. He smiled and tilted his head to the side, his eyes dimming and his mouth slackening; in one short moment the boy seemed to have completely shut-off. It was then that an employee came in from the kitchen, a tray of sippee cups wedged firmly in his hands and an expression that screamed fifteen-hour-shift. He passed a cup to Hale Elora and set another in front of Lucien, pressing the tray awkwardly against his hip.
"People have got to stop just dumping their kids here," he ground out, mostly to himself. "There's a goddamn sign-on sheet for a reason. Uh, you okay, kid?" The fun-house employee clicked his fingers repeatedly, causing the boy to start and mumble I'd slide down like Rapunzel.
Lucien looked up and took a generous swig out of his sippee cup, then beamed. "Apple! I looove apple, thank you!"
