Clicky here.

This is a visual riddle(one of the easier ones imo), in the style of one of the puzzles from The Stone. Has anyone here ever heard of it before?

If you like, there is a site that mirrors the entire collection of original stone puzzles, as well as more fan-made ones, but it requires you to register(free, and so far no spam). (Incidentally, I was considering setting up a guild entirely dedicated to stone-type puzzles, but then stumbled on this one.)

Do you get a screen with "The origin of man" as the title, an image and a text box-if so that is the riddle. Submit the answer in the box. Use of all means available to you (i.e. the web) is encouraged.

Where to start? Have you seen anything like the image before (a film maybe...hint)?

There are easier puzzles which demonstrate the idea better, but you would have to register to view those; this is probably the most doable that is publicly viewable.

Ok...not much interest from others, and doesn't look like Lyssan made much of a dent.

Let me re-stress that this is a no-holds-barred riddle; you are actively encouraged to lie, steal, cheat (i.e. use google) to get to the bottom of it.

You may have a little hint to start you off.

"monolith saturn"

well "2001 Space Odyssey" comes to mind with that hint... and a bunch of apes... and a big big black stone

which i don't see in those pretty colors... and i have tried to get help from elsewhere... i'll keep working on it.... don't worry

The title is part of the riddle too...but is not meant in the sense of the film's plot.

Have you clicked throught the link...it's an external page.

If you have, and don't get it, that's part of the puzzle-it's a visual riddle/puzzle. Working out what it is asking you in this case is over half of the riddle. You may guess as much as you like-there's no limit to the number of times you may submit an answer into the box on the page. If you are in the right area, it will let you know (though this is a script, not a person assessing this-so it only looks for certain words and phrases. Spelling is important usually).

It is in fact a 10 part riddle-what you see is part one-indicated by one out of 10 squares being coloured in at the bottom of the picture.

Don't worry if you are not making much headway...these are hard riddles. I'll do either this one, or Moonshine, as a walkthrough in the near future, to show people what you're up against and how to go about solving them. I'm just giving Lyssan a little more time to have a go.

Ok-I've noticed 2 things.

1) the link above doesn't work for IE folks-You'll have to go in from the homepage, and go stones->strange quarks->origin of man(top row, third along from left).

2)If you use firefox, you will find that, rather than getting a nice caption "tool-tip" when hovering over the image as in IE, you get
[removed]window.status='
';void(0)instead in the status bar on mouse hover. This is due to the differing ways that IE and firefox handle the window.status property, and also the fact that firefox disables processing of window.status by default. So either strip the caption out of the above code, or, if that doesn't appeal aesthetically as a solution to you, you can check "Tools → Options → Content → Enable JavaScript / Advanced → Allow scripts to change status bar text". This won't give you the nice tool-tip behaviour of IE, but will display the caption in the status bar unadulterated when you click the picture. On hover it still looks like a dogs dinner.

None of this helps you anymore than the above already has...the caption is "oingg si dimn ym...", which easily rearranges to give "my mind is going...";google this and the first hit returns 2001:a Space Odyssey.

But it may help for future puzzles.
