...and what do you think will happen in the next book? I think: 1. Based on what happenned in the fire, it sounds like Carmelita and Esme won't be in the next one smile 2. The general public in ASOUE is very, very stupid... 3. 2 J.S's? i didn't expect that... most people were like "it's either Justice Strauss or Jerome Squalor" 4.Why did Dewey have to die? :'( 5.I would've thought the Baudelaires would be safe if there was even a few members of the good side of VFD there... and... 6. i think in book 13, the Baudelaires will end up joining count Olaf.

I think your number 6 is based on the fact that they helped/escaped with him. I'm in the process of re-reading it a second time, but i think that they did it because it was either escape with count olaf or go back to the even worse mwbbnh and wwhbnb, the supposed "justices". Now, if the law in their world is that corrupt, what would you do in their shoes? And remember "A great man once said that right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant."
And this is a given, but we will definately see the Quagmires and Hector, dead or alive...who can tell? Handler seems to like to kill off/trap the people who seem most likely to help the children. So maybe hector will be alive, but the triplets won't be. If that happens I'm going to cry, seriously.
I have it on good authority that olaf will possibly become slightly less evil, owing to his hesitation in actually pulling the trigger of the harpoon gun.
I also think that we will never see the sugar bowl again. Because when the mysterious man offered the baudelaires a taxi ride there was also a small object mentioned in the front seat. But this is a BIG guess. It could also end up with the triplets & hector, but this is not founded w/ any evidence.

I read as carefully as possible the entire book yesterday, and I wish I had a commonplace book. It seems that Dewey is Kit's baby's daddy, and it seems that that man in the taxi was Lemony Snicket, and it seems that there are many running characters who have died, and it appears that Fiona and Fernald are on the self-sustaining air mobile home, helping or hurting the triplets.
But the biggest question I have is: what pictoral clue to the next book is in the last picture?

Well, there are actually TWO pictoral clues, the one immediately following the end, and the one after the mention of the author & artist. The recurring theme seems to be ships, so I am going to guess that ships are the big pictoral clue and the 13th book will mainly take place on or near water. It's possible the self-sustaining hot air balloon crashes into the ocean.
edit- now that i actually look at the first picture mentioned, it seems that we will possibly be seeing the submarines again.

Jehosaphat But the biggest question I have is: what pictoral clue to the next book is in the last picture? there's a reference to the next book in the picture? *looks at a few* hmm... so there is... *looks at TPP's pic* hmm... the only thing i can see is the Crows, or they could be eagles...

But I do think that is a definite possibility, since it says the package was damp.

Did you catch the Sebald code on page 67? First time I've seen it in the books. I didn't realize it was there until I saw it posted at 667.
Hey, did you guys look at Quidditch.com's allusions yet? They have the new ones. I'm responsible for the Esperanto and Bertrand ones, plus I'm partially responsible for the Frank and Ernest one.

Wow. I looked through everything he had to say about the allusions, and I am extremely impressed by Mr. Handler. Literature is such a remarkable thing to me, I can't believe he's so into things like this, and from a children's book no less. It's like he's also trying to delay a message to the generation about how important these things need to be to us, and how a majority of kids these days have abandoned such ideas.

Alright, wikipedia is trying to say that "As they travel they see a crow fly high above holding something. It drops it into the fire of Hotel Denouement." I was suprised by this, so I read from the part where they push the boat off the hotel, to the part where they're wondering whether or not they're turning into evil people. NOW, I did not see anything about a crow flying over the burning hotel and dropping anything. If i'm wrong (and i very well could be, it IS 1:30am here) i would really like it if someone could give me the page the the quote that indicates that the afforementioned is true.

The thing with Wikipedia is, when it comes to important information, I never check it on an up-to-date basis.
For one thing, almost anyone can edit it, and at one point, someone had written the title to the new book on the very first line, and spoiled it for tons of people. So you have to wait until the right people fix the other people's mistakes.

My friend Mit and I are pretty much in agreement: Kit's pregnancy wouldn't have been brought up unless it was an important plot point, and there was probably a relationship of some sort between Kit and Dewey. (See his last words.) It was probably romantic, and it's probably his kid.
We've also decided the whole mystery will be solved once we know the truth about Beatrice.

It seems to me, that Olaf will become less evil, but will still be evil, and hopefully will fall off the boat. The Baudelaires will be the founding members of the new VFD, along with the quagmires, and the Snicket-Denouement triplets. They will do this using all the information saved in the last safe place (which, contrary to popular belief, was not burnt, but save and sound under the pond which reflected the certain hotel) ..this, ofcource, is what I hope happens, and very little of it is based off facts in the book. ----- Also, on a semi-related note; What is up with the pictures of the woman drilling into the wall near the elevator, the cable breaking, and the man on it? I didnt see any relation what so ever to the book in that!
