Beauty bore her name as any gargoyle might endure the fancies of a hatchling, she thought it was a bit silly. Still she accepted and embraced what one of the humans had named her, for it was the same delightful human who had helped her learn to read and lent her books from the castles vast library. Beauty adored books, every kind of book on every subject. She was ever in the pursuit of further knowledge on every subject.
Infact it was quite something to catch a glimpse of her face at all for normally it was hidden behind some new tome or other. Her wings too were quite out of use, for she only glided from the cliffs to the castle and even then sometimes she would be caught in the castle garden, reading, come sunrise.
As the sun set this evening she was not in the castle gardens or anywhere near the humans. Instead she was perched quietly on a rocky outcropping away from the clans cliffs. Once again she was lost in a world written on fragile parchment and bound in leather. Completely oblivious.

 "Don't tell me that's one of the humans' books," a dark male gargoyle called as he swooped down, surprised to see yet another gargoyle near his favorite cave away from the clan. He still was getting used to the idea of mingling after having been out of practice for long. But then, that's what banishment did to isolated individuals. Anwir was still re-learning how to play nice with others. Particularly with the stronger-minded females.
Anwir detested humans. To him, they were merely children of the Earth; always getting themselves into trouble over petty quarrels and making nuciances of themselves by blowing mere squabbles out of proportion. This in itself might not have bothered Anwir, but in the process of dramatisizing their own affairs, his race, the gargoyles, were getting dragged into the meaningless chaos. The gargoyles, Anwir felt, were like the parents being pulled into the fray by their own natural instinct to protect and keep peace; even if the children were not their responsibility.
The gargoyle had learned long ago that he would never be able to banish the parental worry and need to protect that his guardian race felt toward the race of fools known as human kind. Still, he couldn't help holding some resentment toward them when they so casually chose to involve themselves in more than just protection of the fools. Some even showed interest in them.
Peering over the female's shoulder, Anwir wrappedhis wings about his shoulders, though crouching forward caused his amulet to dangle from his neck. He forgot to hide it under his wings as he usually did, thanks to the book that had distracted him in the female's posession.
"How can you tell all their writings aren't more than lies, Sister?" he asked, gold eyes fixed loathingly on the written words on parchment.

Beauty might never have noticed Anwir had he not crouched over her and spoken closer to her ear, for she was as always lost in a world of words. She twisted and gave him an indulgent smile before starting in a measured voice. Her tone, one might think, was that of a patient adult explaining something to a child.
"Good evening brother, it is indeed one of the human's books, from the castle infact. As for their writings, a great many are indeed lies as you would call them, but they are deceptions of entertainment brother, stories the humans weave for themselves. That which claims to be true, is often true to them, they cannot help what they cannot see after all." She reluctantly closed her book and peered at the amulet that dangled so close to her.
Her claws reached out to lightly tap at the pendant "Why do they bother you so?"
