Shadowy Celebrant

There were no visions this time. Her dream was blind, passing... Not a single sight. Miira thought, at first, she was blind; her dreams were nightmares, and the waking world... She chose to not look at others directly to find some repast from the pain.

But this dream was no nightmare, merely sound, a warm sound in her ear, not unpleasant; singing. She reached out, trying to find the singer....

Miira woke with a start, stretching just a bit too far and finding nothing but air. The young adolescent gave a disgruntled growl and got up, yawning and stretching out her form before loping out.

The rains had come the night before; water craving plants by the dens and river peeking out at the promise of moisture, and Shotonin was collecting herbs. The male rumbled a bit, uprooting herbs with his teeth gently, careful not to puncture leaves, and dropping them into a makeshift pouch. The pouch itself meant a good deal to the lion; in learning herbs, he'd grown lost and lived a small portion of life with a two-legger hermit whom, learning Shotonin's curiosity at his use of herbs, had allowed the lion to learn from him. The lion had been eternally grateful, and made note to bury the man's body so the vultures would not find it when he passed months later. Yes, it was a fine day to find herbs, and Shotonin was surprised to see Miira loping past with a sense of duty.

"Where are you going in a hurry?" The medi-lion grunted.

Miira didn't deny being surprised to see the grumpy male out an about. Quite opposite. She was amused, and gave Shotonin a half-glance, looking past him slightly as she rolled her shoulders, grunting a response to the male nonchalantly.

"Out. Away. I don't know."

Unlike the others, Miira wasn't afraid of Shotonin. Her visions ensured she feared little; and the rocks the grouch threw at his disturbances never bothered her. There was a mutual understanding between the seer and medic... Especially once she started bringing him the sick and wounded she saw.

Shotonin regarded the younger lioness silently, one eye, then another. He thought of his options, things to say, and then found himself with a pawful of nothing reasonable. Still, the male knew the younger lioness could be reckless, and using that logic, he found something to say.

"You shouldn't go alone." He grunted.

Miira smirked to herself.

"Shouldn't, but I'm going to anyway." She looked over her shoulder, smirking softly at Shotonin.

"When have I even listened to what others say? I'm different.... I..."

"I know you can see things, Miira. That's not what I mean." Shotonin looked up.

"What if you can't see everything? We're only mortals. Even you. Seeing the future is just another talent-- not everyone has second sight..."

"I know, I KNOW." Miira snapped, then pawed the ground. Did she dare tell him she hadn't seen, but heard? Would he believe for once, her vision gave her hope?

....... Probably not.

"It's just something I have to do, Shot...."

"Alone, though?" Shotonin looked to the lioness with concern, tail swaying warily. He didn't like the idea of even one lion in the pride away from good medicine, food, protection... But Miira seemed set. Something told him to back off, but the male grunted.

"Won't you take one person...?"

"I... Don't think I should. It'd be better I go alone." Miira looked out, watching the land.

"I think I have to go alone."

Shotonin was quiet. He couldn't argue the logic; not with a seer, and the male rose, padding over, and wrapped a paw around her, pulling the lioness into a friendly hug.

"Just come home safe, Miira." Shotonin chuckled, then let the lioness go.

Miira beamed, returning her friend's hug, then growled playfully, shoving herself away as she turned.

"I will. I'll be OK." She looked out quietly. "Somehow, I think I'll be alright."

That said, the lioness moved, padding away from her pride's land. She didn't stop; didn't look back.

She was going to find the Voice. Within moments... She was gone.

Shotonin watched the lioness go, ears flicking before he turned, looking at the herbs before him, musing, wondering, and pawed the ground, before burying a seed.

Before he returned to his work, the medic laid a hope upon the seed.

The hope his friend would come home soon.

It was with that prayer that the male moved away, mind back to the task at hand, now that again, he was alone.
