Yesterday there was a pro-life protest on my campus, and pro-choicers retaliated with 5 times the turnout.

Now don't get me wrong, I thought this was awesome -- and a little surprising! (Well, maybe not so much given how much NDP support there is in Toronto xd )
However, St. George and Harbord is a full one block away from where I live, and I missed it 'cause I was in class. Damn. crying Maybe I'll catch another one someday.

What choice-related events has everyone else had to unfortunately miss?

Idiotic comments on that post, though. Did you guys know that we're anti-feminist for treating women as if they're capable of making decisions for themselves? rolleyes

California's branch of NARAL is having a Reproductive Freedom Day event in Sacramento and I can't go because that's too damn far away.

I loved this quote.
Lifer
This points to the main debate between opposing positions: what is the unborn? Because if the unborn are not human, then abortion is no big deal, BUT if the unborn are human, than no justification for abortion is adequate.

That user names it sound like women carry a little lizard fetus in their uterus until it comes to term. xd

I miss out on pretty much any pro-choice gathering there is. Once I gwt car insurance, however, that will change.

I want to post a comment, but I don't know how I can do it without being perceived as inflammatory.

Maybe this explains why I haven't debated the topic since my modding. I suck. xp

(Speaking of being "disrespectful to differing opinions", counter-protests shouldn't be allowed, rofl!!!!)

The inauguration came on while I was at school, if that counts... They played it, but it came on during lunch so I couldn't hear anything over peoples talking.

I was gonna write a letter to the editor in our newspaper for a school project, but my parents think that'd be too contraversial (and I sorta agree), so now I have no clue what to write about.

Personally, I think that being Pro-Choice is the most wonderful thing you can do for your potentially unborn children.

Being pro-choice means that you are accountable for every pregnancy. It means that you think over your decision to prevent, continue, or abort every pregnancy that you will ever have.

It means that you will never have an unwanted child.

It means that every wanted pregnancy will be nurtured from day 1 with the utmost care and love.

To me, that's the greatest gift and greatest power a woman can have. I feel the baby move inside of me every day, and I think to myself, "Yes, I CHOSE this," and it makes it that much more special and important than if pregnancy were just the default position for all women.

It just MATTERS more when we consciously make a decision than if we just leave things to chance. I don't understand why pro-lifers don't get this.

That's neat! A huge chunk of my graduating class ended up going to U of T (including my best friend, who lives right near the St. George campus), so I would've come down in a jiffy and watched/joined in on the fun.

A while ago, the student council of my university voted unanimously to deny funding to pro-life clubs, stating that having them around made women feel unsafe and vilified. LOL. Since my campus is far away, I missed the blowout.

But it's not like the pro-life clubs are being kicked out or anything - they just can't use student council money or resources to make other students feel like s**t. biggrin Plus, Catholic schools here receive government funding, but they're still allowed to spread anti-choice messages and indoctrinate their female students into thinking they have no rights. The money issue goes both ways, so the pro-life clubs can go cry moar.

eek Really? What school do/did you go to? (Sorry for asking if you don't want to tell xp )

I don't know much about the club at my school -- it claims to be a club that supports the sanctity of life in all situations, not just abortion, but most of its activity I've seen has been abortion-centric.

York U. And yes, the strike sucked. XD

But our particular campus is so small that we don't even have clubs related to "hot-button" issues. Then again, we have a female-majority population and perhaps most of them don't care about what people do with their bodies, sexuality, etc.
