I've recently been getting into this show. I've watched it before, but for whatever reason it never really grabbed my interest. I love cars. Correction, I ADORE cars! Especially those ridiculously expensive, ridiculously fast and ridiculously sweet looking cars like they have on Top Gear. I really don't know why I didn't get into this show sooner... What was wrong with me!?
I love the hosts. As you would probably guess, my favorite is Richard Hammond. He's just such an adorable little thing! xd Plus, he looks a bit like David Tennant. When I found out about the accident he was in a few years ago, I was just horrified. I'm so glad he made it through that alright. Figures it would happen to the cute one. Anyway, I wish Jeremy Clarkson would stop hogging all the awesome cars and let Richard drive some once in a while. He'd actually fit into most of them better anyway. razz
I'm also naturally intrigued by the mysterious Stig. I know his identity is supposedly known, but the conspiracy theorist in me wants to think it's all a clever misinformation plot so no one will continue trying to find out his real identity, heheh.
And speaking of David Tennant, when he was on the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car segment, it was both funny and awkward at the same time. But mostly funny. I highly recommend watching that one and the one with Billie Piper. I couldn't find the one with Christopher Eccleston, unfortunately. I wonder if the new Doctor (who's name I already forgot... ninja ) will do the show?
So, any thoughts? Ever even watched it? Favorite host? Moment? Car? Guest? Challenge? Anything at all? Work with me here! I need something to talk about to prevent me from going into Doctor Who withdrawal any more than I already have! gonk

I saw David's episode and maybe one other.. I'm not really into cars (at all) so I just watch for the guests... what was funny to me was when David found out that Billie had a better time on the racecourse. xd
And I don't think David swore or anything while driving like a lot of people would under pressure. So I was very pleased about that. 3nodding

Actually, most of them are pretty clean mouthed. They just talk to themselves about what they're doing. Or talk to the car, either encouraging it or yelling at it. xd
It was so funny when David was talking about Billie's lap. How he said she drove on a track that she invented or something like that. And she did! I saw David's first, but then I had to go see Billie's and she really did cheat! And then she got away with it because of her see-through top! rolleyes
I don't think I'd be able to do the track at all. Ironically, even though I absolutely love cars, I'm terrified of driving. It's pretty pathetic, really. sweatdrop Though I recently found an advanced driving class near me that's taught by a real race car driver and they claim to be able to cure driving fears, so I'm thinking about doing it. I just have to come up with $300 first... Sigh... It seems like it would be worth it, though. This guy teaches police, fire fighters and ambulance drivers along with the regular people, plus I might get a discount on my insurance for taking the class.

xd xd
If you're in the US, which I think you are, I'm pretty sure that taking drivers ed or the equivalent will get you a discount/reduction on insurance. So really, the $300 makes up for itself and then some in the long run, plus you get experience and training. 3nodding

Oh, I'm sure it will be worth it. The problem is getting the initial $300 in the first place. At least my tax refund will be able to contribute some of it, but I need to use most of that money for other things. Sigh... stupid economy. But I didn't make this thread to whine about my financial difficulties. I can do that to my family. razz
So back to the topic, I just watched a clip from an episode where poor Richard got hypnotized into forgetting how to drive. It was incredibly funny, but he's just so cute I couldn't help feeling sorry for him! He looked so lost and confused. But it was still hilarious. xd

WOO I love top gear. What's great about is that you don't have to be crazy about cars or know all the tech details to enjoy the show.
Hahah Australia did their own version of it, ... I think they stopped tho because no one watched it. It's just not the same without Hammond and Jeremy and Captain Slow.

Yes, I know! Like I said, I love cars, but I'm not the type of person who goes out of their way to know everything about every car ever made. I just like to look at them in awe and watch them go fast. xd I used to want to go to school to learn how to be a mechanic, but unfortunately, I never did.
And my favorite thing about Top Gear isn't even necessarily the cars, though they are fantastic. I love the humor and the crazy challenges and the general nutty behavior that goes on. Such as building a space shuttle out of a Reliant Robin and incinerating things with jet cars and trying (and failing) to kill a Toyota pick-up truck. It's just so much fun! If I ever manage to visit England, I am going to be in the audience of that show. Period. And I'm going to visit Cardiff, but that goes without saying. razz
And yeah, I heard the Australian version was horrible. I don't remember if it's already out yet or not, but I know there was going to be an American version, too. I also heard that the people they were planning to use for the hosts were stupid, but I know nothing about them myself, so I can't really judge. And unless I'm mistaken (which is entirely possible), there's a German version, too. I think the three German people who were competing with Richard, James and Jeremy recently were the hosts of that version. Don't take my word for that, though.

So I just watched the one where they went to Africa. That is a great episode! Richard and Oliver are the cutest things ever! xd Now I want a 1963 Opel Kadett. I even tried to find one for sale, but there aren't any... crying

I can't say I love cars at all, but I love watching Top Gear. One of my favorites it where they launch the minicouper down a sky a jump

Richard, of course. 4laugh He's like a little puppy. Incapable of being uncute even when misbehaving. Second favorite is James, cause... well, I don't know. He's just nice. And classy, heheh. Jeremy isn't far behind, though. He's one of the funniest people I've ever seen!

Richard would have been my favourite, but I don't like all the publicity he got over his big crash... "When I died at 200km/h" well he didn't die at all it's just annoying. Not the dying part, the... dramatisation part. And he's short razz but yeah he is very cute.
I guess Jeremy is my favourite, mainly because he's the funniest. Not the nicest by any respects but he is very funny.
James is cool too though. They're all great biggrin

Yeah, there was a lot of publicity over that, but I missed it all so it doesn't really affect me. I know it happened and that it was awful, but it's all in the past. More than two years ago, I think (it was sometime in 2006 or something, wasn't it?). Anyway, I think most people have gotten over it. Except maybe for the obsessive fangirls. They never get over anything, regardless of who or what it is. rolleyes
But yes, Jeremy can nearly kill me in every episode from laughing so much. Usually I don't like mean humor, but the way he does it is somehow different. Like you know that he's not really mean at all (unlike certain other British television hosts...). It's like the three of them are all brothers and that's how they act toward each other. My two brothers are like that a lot of the time, always bashing on each other, but they're best friends. I really like that about the show. And even when Jeremy is purposefully irritating people other than James and Richard, you can tell he isn't really trying to hurt them or anything.
