Leviathan still didn't understand why Sable had disappeared. He wasn't sure if he should believe his brother, or his father. Rook was known to tell a tale-tall or two and Juno was not the picture of honesty himself. There was very little the lobster-boy could do, however, and on a rainy, stormy day such as this, evening surfing seemed unappealing. Finally, Rook had given him twenty dollars and told him to get out.
After wandering around in the rain, cold water didn't bother a lobster very much, Leviathan finally came upon a little ice cream shoppe tucked neatly on a street corner. Twenty dollars would serve him pretty good, the boy figured, so he pushed in and shook himself like a wet dog. Teal hair clung to his face as he waddled over to the ice cream bar. He hauled himself up on the stool and ordered a sundae before wringing his shirt out. Man. He should bring a raincoat next time.

Folding up her dripping umbrella, Kaimi shook out her hair and sniffed. Sure, the air inside an ice cream parlor wasn't as fragrant as, say, a bakery. But it did smell nice, and Kaimi brought in her own sweet, floral scent.
The house had been too loud. Or maybe too quiet. She wasn't really sure, but either way she'd been desperate to get out and get some space. Coupled with an unusual but strong desire for sugar, she'd made her way to the cute little ice cream shoppe that had a view of the overcast and miserable beach.
It was reasonably crowded inside, but Kaimi spotted a stool next to a boy with teal hair and made her way to it, eyeing the menu. There were just too many choices and it all sounded good and "Oops!" Her umbrella poked the boy in the side and she made an apologetic face. "I'm sorry."

Leviathan hadn't been really paying attention. He was sort of watching the lady behind the bar, but it was more like staring blankly right through her. So when Kaimi poked him, the poor lad nearly jumped straight out of his skin. It was a miracle the lobster-child managed to stay on the stool, but he decided not to question the gift from fate. At least he didn't look like a total idiot in front of the girl.
"Uh, it's okay," he mumbled, rubbing his side where she got him. "It's really crowded." Normally the teal-haired boy was a little more sarcastic, or even just nastier, but he just didn't have it in him today. "You can sit there, if you want. You getting something?" Lev attempted at conversation, momentarily distracted as the ice cream lady handing him his sundae. Mhhhm. Hot fudge sundae. Good for cheering up even the sappiest of men.

She took the seat offered, peeling off coats and jackets until she was comfortable in her standard tube-top. "Yeah, I'm getting something." Kaimi looked at his hot fudge sundae with interest. "Ice-cream is supposed to make you feel better, right?" She asked rhetorically before turning to the lady behind the bar and ordering the biggest banana split on the menu. The one intended for three or more people. "I bet that will help me feel better." She muttered under her breath, then smiled at Levi. "What are you in for?"

Leviathan watched Kaimi, mildly interested as she delayered all the way down to a tube-top. The lobster-boy was vaguely reminded of an onion, and could not help but be impressed by the teenager's ability to be in such airy clothing on a colder day such as this. He followed her gaze down to his ice cream and remembered to take a bite. "Yeah. So they say," he mumbled around his spoon, pausing thoughtfully to enjoy the fudge.
The boy blinked at her last comment, unable to resist cracking a smile. It sounded like detention, or jail, or something. Completely appropriate for the way he was feeling, really. "My dad disappeared. So I have to live with my other dad, now." A sigh and another spoonful. Leviathan glanced over at Kaimi before adding. "They weren't gay together. For the record. I just have two dads." He never felt the need to be defensive about before...but now he did.

The girl nodded solemnly while Levi unloaded. As soon as her own ice cream arrived she took a massively big bite and let out a contented sigh. "I got kidnapped by vampires." She said, completely straight-faced. It was a good excuse for a calorie-fest. "And I've only got one mom, it must have been cool to have two parents." She smiled a little through the whipped cream. "Why'd he leave?"

"Vampires? Wow." Leviathan blinked, nibbling on a spoonful of pure hot chocolate. "That sounds rough." No wonder she needed an ice cream! Vampires, fancy that. "And I'm not really sure about the two parents thing. They kinda hated each other. Well, Sable hated Juno." He shrugged. The scientists used to be close, maybe even borderline friends, he was told, but Juno was Juno and that inevitably meant inflicting pain on everyone he came in contact with (save one certain Leviathan). Sable quit the firm they were working for and went to work for Dr. Akari. And now...Sable was gone.
"Uh. I don't know, actually. He was supposed to come back..." Leviathan shrugged and shook his head. He still felt guilty about it. His brother Rook wasn't really helping out in that department. "What about you? How'd you get kidnapped?" He paused. "I mean, you don't have to talk about it if you don't wanna."

"Oh..." She colored faintly and the wooden countertop where her elbows rested seemed to turn greyish. "I dont... I mean they just kind of came into my house and took me. But Leeward has been lurking around taunting my mother for ages. I think he did it to make her angry." Kaimi's voice tight with anger and supressed tears at the memory. "But anyways." She hazarded a grin at him while stuffing her face with a banana "We're both just kind of sob stories, aren't we?" She asked with an attempt at levity. "I'm Kaimi."

"Isn't that stuff, like, totally illegal?" Leviathan asked, making quick work of the chocolate candies he had discovered lurking beneath his whipped cream. The boy knew a bit more about illegal things than he should, probably, it was mostly to keep himself and his brother out of trouble. His brother liked to break rules. The teal-haired boy considered her last statement as he began to work on the ice cream.
"Yeah, I think we are. I'm Leviathan Dagon-Hazard. You can call me Lev, though, if you want. Or Levi."

"Yeah, it's totally illegal." Kaimi shrugged, her face going stormy. "But what are you going to do about it? I used to think heroes were real and everything but now..." She shrugged again and with effort threw off her frown and gave Levi a smile. "Anyways, it's not really that important. It's nice to meet you, Levi. You've got cool hair."

Lev chuckled. He did have pretty cool hair, he had to admit. He often admired it in the mirror. (When no one was home, of course.) "Your hair is neat too," he commented. Their hair was very similar shades. Lev tossed his head, wet locks still plastered to his face. He was definitely going to have to go home and clean up after his ice cream. It was kind of a shame, a girl seeing him all ruffled like this.
"So, you frequent this place, or is this a one-time deal for you, too?"

Kaimi shook her head, letting her own hair ripple. She'd found that growing boobs had also led her to growing just a tiny bit of vanity. "Never been here before. I kinda... wanted a change of pace, y'know? New faces and all that." She didn't add that she wanted to go somewhere she'd never been so it would be less likely anyone she knew would find her. Like Leeward. Or her mother. Mothers got weird when puberty hit.

"Yeah." Leviathan could understand that. The beach was usually his place to be, but he just didn't have that in him today. Normally he didn't mind weather this crappy, he was a lobster for god's sake. They lived in the cold, rocky environments, they were tough, thick-skinned, all sorts of good things. Just not today.
"Hey, you ever go to the beach?" It was a pretty valid question. Kaimi totally looked like a beach bum. (Coming from Leviathan, that was quite the compliment. The boy did not like strangers roaming around on his beach, especially girls and lovey dovey couples. No, he did not care if he did not technically own the beach. No, he did not care if he had no right to kick people off. It was his beach. End of story.) "You should come see mine, sometime."

Kaimi's face lit up and the faint floral scent surrounding her seemed to increase. "Hey! Yeah, I love the beach! I practice my dancing there. Usually when it's warmer. Where's your beach? I'd love to see it!" She mainly hung out at whichever beach her bike took her to.

"Dancing, huh?" Yeah, Leviathan could see that. Maybe like one of those island girls everyone always tried to copy at parties. "That's cool." He could appreciate that kind of hobby, yeah. Especially if she was a real dancer, like those girls who actually lived on the islands. "I'm a surfer, you know." And hence, the boy absolutely adored islands and their culture. Sometimes he wished he could give up the dull drab of city and science for the free-lovin' island and surf, but he knew Juno would never approve.
"Oh, it's not too far from here, actually. Two streets down, it was right across from my old house." Leviathan's smile faded breifly before he forced it back. "A lot of couples like to use it for strolls in the evening, because it has the best sunsets around."
