I would think the majority of people in this guild are in support of stem cell research. Hell, even a few pro-lifers agree with it. One of the reasons I like Obama is that he supports stem cell research to find cures, and he may lift the ban on federal funding for it that Bush signed. Older article: http://www.whas11.com/topstories/stories/whas11_topstory_080627_battens_girl.4584cd60.htmlThe article talks about how a family had to raise a lot of money to send their young daughter to China. Since stem cell research doesn't get federal funding in the US, they had to go all the way to China to save their daughter's life. Stem cell research could save so many lives. I really hope Obama lets the federal government fund it a bit.

Aaaagreed. And I really do not understand the problem lifers have with it. They use unwanted leftovers from IVF that would otherwise be thrown in the trash--why not make use of it instead of make refuse of it?

I don't know how commonplace beliefs like that are (in the open, anyway), but I've been surprised at a lot of things lately.

I was like wtf all over that episode. But it's real. I guess it's not a TERRIBLE idea if you're already looking into sperm donation or something, but really... there are children around that need you more. It's like adoption so I don't get why not adopt a child that can't be disposed of.

Pro-lifers against stem cell research: An eight year old child dying of a disease with many friends and families cries over the fact that soon he will die.
A pro-lifer who knows that an unborn and unthinking thing could save the boy's life shrugs off the boy's tears and feels self righteous about the fact that they're "saving lives".
Pro-life? Oh so very much.
I've always found "pro-lifers" against stem cell research to be hypocritical. Let's just call them pro-fetus and get over with it.

I felt the same really, I don't have any real qualms with it, but I wouldn't opt for it. xp

People opposed to stem cell research make me want to punch something.
My little sister's got some wierd form of muscular dystrophy that's getting worse, and stem cell research could really help her. Poor girl spent fifty days in the hospital last spring after a screwed-up surgery, and now she's stuck with a trach (No idea how you spell that) for God-knows how long.
What's the big ******** deal about embryos that makes them so much more important than her?
