Strengths: The creepy, drone-y, epic, sludgy feel it can give off makes it a very diverse subgenre. The Vocals can range from crunchy male vocals to crunchy female vocals as well as loud operatic ones and harsh.
Weakness: Some of it can be downright boring.

Strengths: Nice vibe, and the guitar solos just stand out!
Weaknesses: I agree with Digital Malevolence on the fact it can get pretty boring.
I've been only recently exploring Doom Metal, I've found one band that I really like and that's Candlemass.
