... is the greatest book ever written. 3nodding (Or at least the greatest book I've ever read. ninja ) Most people think of it as a silly children's story, but I think it's a work of literary genius.
Discuss. blaugh

I happen to agree with you. It IS genius, even if I feel like I'm tripping on acid every time I read it. xd
"But I don't want to go amongst mad people!" "Oh, you can't help that. We're all mad here. You might have noticed that I'm not all there myself."
That's one of my favorite parts right there!

We're all mad here. You might have noticed that I'm not all there myself." That's one of my favorite parts right there! I lurve the Cheshire Cat! 3nodding (I made myself a Cheshire Cat costume for Halloween the year before last. whee ) One of the parts that makes me laugh the most is when Alice is talking about writing letters to her feet. rofl One thing I really don't like about the Disney movie is that Alice is a pathetic, wimpy, little simp. She was a tough cookie in the book. blaugh She was always harsh and bold and independent. And most importantly, she was a little cuckoo, herself. Disney kinda ruined her. Miraculously, Carroll wasn't tripping on anything. Not acid, shrooms, or uppity tree roots. ninja He was on a boat with three little girls. There's a poem about it in the beginning of most copies of Alice in Wonderland. Speaking of copies, I really wanna get one from 1865. That was original release year. My earliest copy right now is from 1927.

May I ask what you think of 'Through the Looking Glass'? I enjoy both books (and agree - the books are infinitely better than the movie) and wondered what people's thoughts were on this.

(Finally decides to get involved in this conversation.)
I also agree that Disney didn't really do the stories (since they kinda combined them) justice; the movie just seems to miss the whole point of the saga, which, among other things, is thinly-disguised satire. (And "surrealism" or whatever you'd call it and so forth.) Not Alice traipsing around like a ninny while singing about her desire to talk to flowers. O_o;
@Melnoli: I actually liked "Through the Looking Glass" better than "Alice in Wonderland" when I read it, though they're both good. 3nodding

OoooOOO, differing opinions in the thread! :p
I have to say that personally I enjoyed Through the Looking Glass more, but that may be because I'm actually more familiar with that story (as in, I know it better, I've read it more, etc)

Because when you look at some of the stuff as a kid you just kinda go, "What the hell??" and take it all too literally or something I guess. 3nodding

The books ARE much better than the movie by far. I like Alice's Adventures In Wonderland better personally, but both are awesome. And the last time I read them was about 2 1/2 years ago. I used to read them more frequently, but Navy life's gotten in the way. I need to read them again. crying

It's been about nine months since I last read Through the Looking Glass. Probably about two years since I read Alice in Wonderland.
