She was making the perfect pot of tea for her guest, whom she prayed was on his way to her roost for tea. She wanted to meet this friend of Fancy. Fancy was such a well mannered pidge...she loved having her over to play bridge and drink with her and her old broody friends.
So she wanted to meet him. See if he was just as polite as Fancy...no, if he was WORTHY of Fancy! She couldn't let the love of such a well behaved pidge go to waste.
She set the table at her nest. It was big and had little rocks to perch on around it. A heap of seeds- shelled and sweet from sunflowers, was in the middle. She set a thimble of tea infront of his spot, then one 90 degrees from his seat. She then went to watch for him. She had not invited Nintendo today.

Shadows flew towards the nest in a rather cheery mood. How could he not be cheery? He was in love! The slate quickly contained himself as he banked and landed at the edge of Canterbury Cafe`'s nest. He gave himself a quick preen, this pidge seemed very formal and proper. Not that he didn't want to look his best. They said they were a friend of Fancy's so they he figured they were a good, kind pidge like her. "Hello, I'm Long Shadows. It's nice to meet you." He said with a bow.

He looked fine physically. No abnormalities and no crossed colours of feathers. He had a good pedigree, unlike that whisperer who worked for Pycho. Not that Pebble wasn't nice...it was just she was awful to look at and had mixed blood.
She smiled as he bowed at her and she sniffed, tipping her head. "I'm glad you came. Do come in, do come in. I've just made a freh spot of Honeysuckle tea. Is my favourite blend and I know you will just love it. Rest your bones, sit sit. My last company was bridge last week. Haven't really seen anyone since then. Help yourself to a sunflower or two. Freshly picked and shelled."
Her nest smelt like roses, stuffy. The nest was made of hay and pieces of wallpaper. The stones were asphalt and were somewhat soft. The tea was in a shiny thimble and pink in colour. There was even a shelf with little custom made books. A very proper pidge indeed. The only thing that wold be considered dirty or untidy was a brown feather in the middle of the nest.

She seemed like a nice pidge. Then again, his mother always told him to never judge a book by it's cover. You had to read it's pages first. The slate then silently obeyed and sat down in, the thimble of tea sat before him. It smelled good, obviously a different flavor than the one Fancy had made though. He took a sip of the tea and helped himself to a seed while he gazed around the nest. Very tidy. The books caught his eye and he wondered what stories they held. The pidge quietly sipped his tea again. Had a very sweet flavor, courtesy of the honeysuckle he guessed. He didn't dislike it, but he preferred the tea Fancy had made, he didn't inherit his mother's sweet tooth.

"Do you like the tea? I made it from my special store." she said, daintily sipping it. "Now we don't have four people here, so would you like a nice game of crib?" she asked, smiling. She pulled a hand drawn deck of cards from her nest and put them on the table.

Shadows took another sip of his tea and nodded. "It's very good." Then she suggested they play a card game. He accepted with a "Sure." figuring it might be rude to turn down the game. The thief didn't play card games often, he was usually too busy looking for useful things and hoped he wasn't too rusty that he couldn't play. The last time he played a card game had been with his parents, he reminisced.

She began to deal out the cards and ppered at hers. "So what's your pedigree?" she asked. "Who are your parents? And what breed are you? And what's your line of work?" she laid down a queen.

Shadows blinked at the question. Pedigree? Not many pidge usually asked him that. Or so many questions at once. He started with his parents. "My father was Sanofi Adventis and my mother Apple Barrel Colors. A doctor and a storyteller." He peered at his cards, selected a ten to lay down and then continued. "I am a slate, and a scavenger." There was a slight pause before he revealed his role. He couldn't tell this pidge he was really a thief. What if they told Fancy? Shadows needed to tell Fancy himself that he was a thief when the time came, he wasn't about to let even a friend of Fancy's ruin their relationship by telling her first. Not many pidge on this side of the tracks took too kindly to thieves and he wasn't sure of where this pidge's opinion stood.

She practically dropped her tea. SLATE?! She stared at him. "Slate....hm...how nice."
But...but that wasn't right! Not right at all! Fancy was a foggy! A FOGGY CAN'T BE MATED TO A SLATE! THAT WAS BAD!! NO, NOT GOOD!!
But she kept sipping her tea, shaken a bit. "I see....well...maybe....um.." She couldn't form a sentance. She put an eight down. He had just won the game.

Shadows found Canterbury Cafe`'s reaction a bit...off. She looked shaken. Was it something he said? "Ah...I guess I won. Do you want to play again?" The slate asked and then took another sip of his tea. Maybe she didn't like losing? Suddenly Shadows found himself thinking about the band. He hadn't stole anything in a while. He didn't even think about stealing from Canterbury this whole time. Then again, she was a friend of Fancy's. Still he found it odd that he hadn't thought about it at all, like the pidge with sticky talons inside him had died. Shadows considered getting a new trade. Which one he would figure out later, although Patrol sounded fitting.

She shook her head and got up. "I'll go make some more tea for us.." she said, leaving her cards on the table. They were such nice cards, all the same shape with little patterns on them. How expensive had they been...
She had her back to him as she fussed in her little cooking area. She suddenly flinched as wing flaps were heard and Nintendo landed at her nest with his ocarina. She spoke to him softly, almost as if he was a pidge and not a doormat.
"Not today, nintendo...i have a private guest over. I'll call on you some other time."
Nintendo tilted his head to one side. What the...why was long shadows, one of his best mates and partners in crime, having tea with the snobbiest old dish rag in the flock? He caught Long's eye and gave him a questioning look.
As then he saw the cards on the table. He pointed at them when Cafe`'s back was turned and nodded vibrantly at Merry. They were running low on food and they needed to trade all they could to Joe.
Cafe` wheeled around. "You still here? SHOO, Nintendo!" He gave one last sly look at Long Shadows and took off.

Shadows nodded an "Okay." as Canterbury set her cards down and left to go make some tea. His head instinctively swiveled when he heard wing beats approaching the nest. The slate blinked, hiding his slight surprise. What was Nintendo doing here? He knew this pidge? Shadows returned his friend's look with an equally questioning look, mentally pinging to him that he would explain later. Then came Nintendo's signal to steal the deck of cards. Shadows guessed they were running low on food again and needed more things to trade. He nodded back when Cafe` was shooing the other thief away, and planned to slip away with the cards when he left. Canterbury certainly wouldn't miss then, she had plenty of seeds and other things she could trade for another pack.

(need to get this shop running again!!!)
"Ugh...such dreadful company he is sometimes. Though he does play the most magnificent music I've ever heard..." she sighed as she sat down. She hadn't gotten more tea. She was side-tracked. She would have to have a chat with Fancy when she came.
"Please, help yourself to more seeds. Can never have too many seeds." she sniffed again, in a bit of a fussy tizzy. She fidgeted in her seat. "Oh! We need White Puff!" she got up to get her two pieces of popcorn from her stores. As she left the table though, her leg hit the edge and shook it. The tea spilt. As she went to catch it, her cards went fluttering everywhere. "Oh deary me! I do apologize. I do, I do. I don't know where my head is at." She got up and ruffled her wings. "Oh, we need something to tidy with. Oh, I do wish I hadn't sent nintendo away. His music might have calmed me...and we could have used that mess of feathers as a mop."
"I do apologize. I must go to 'the safe' and gather my kerchief to wipe the mess. Do forgive me. And eat those seeds...can never have too many seeds.."

( That we do O:< )
Shadows nodded politely. Nintendo did make very nice music, when he wasn't stealing things. The slate Pidge then did as Canterbury advised and nibbled on another seed. So much food! All this would feed over half of the Pidge on the other side of the tracks! He really needed an Associate, that way they could've been there to help him smuggle away some of this food... White Puff...? Sounded very fancy. Speaking of Fancy, where was she? Shadows thought she had been invited too, being a friend of Cafe`'s. "Ah! No trouble at all, take your time..." Shadows was on his feet in an instant, catching the cards as carefully as he could out of the air. He put them on the table, putting the stack out of sight. Hopefully the 'out of sight, out of mind' trick would work and it would be easier to sneak them out when he left. Shadows then sat back down and waited for Cafe` to return from 'the safe'. ...'The safe'. Now that sounded interesting. Maybe that was where she stored her valuable trinkets. The thief inside of Shadows was starting to come out more and more as he made note of where everything was.

Cafe` returned moments later with a pink kerchief in her beak. She landed and put it over the spill, dabbing it with her talons, fussing over every little drop.
When she finished, she wrung it out outside her nest and hung it to dry on the large windowsill. She then waddled back to her table, sitting with him and tipping her head. "So, you're a scavanger, are you? Must be hard, dirty work. I can't stand the dirt. Tea is my forte. Oh, please do have another cup."
She got up and brewed another cup of tea. "Now, I wonder where Fancy has gotten to.."
