I'd say the SEGASonic as the comics warp the games TOO much. I mean Mobius and Robotnik. Don't say they were the original names as the Japenese called it Earth and Eggman WAY before us. Plus those names make it too sci-fi.

All of them have their faults. There are some people prefer over others, but I like all the ones I've seen equally.

The comics, which are what I read first, no longer thrill me like they did. They went downhill in the 3 years I stopped reading them. Every now and then they'll return to their former glory, but currently they're too out there for me to be interested in it.

The Classic Sonic games had Sonic in his prime. Arrogant, cool whitted, he didn't give a crap about anyone and was in it purely for the thrill...And, saving all them animals. Yes.

SatAM was good because the plot was steady. Sure, the puns were bad, but when you're little they were the funniest things you would have ever heard. It was easy to get attached to the characters, because the cast was consistant.

Sonic Underground, though good, had a lot of weak points. The biggest one was having a song in every episode...yeah.

Then there's the Adventure version of Sonic, the one that I, too, am currently keeping tabs on. Sonic seems more....fruity in this one. At least he hasn't become over emotional like in the comicverse, but at the same time he lost the attitude he had. Or rather, it lacks what it used to. He sorta...cares a bit more than he used to, I should say. Plus, the characters are too easy to insult in this version. However, they're more diverse personality-wise, so I enjoy it a bit more.

So, in conclusion, in my mind at least, all of them have their high points, and their faults. smile

I'll have to agree with Meganu on this one; there's something I tend to find likeable (as well as unlikeable) in all the series, or at least the ones I've seen.

The SegaSonic games, universe, is of course, the original. There's no disputing that fact at all. While there wasn't much to the story in the old days besides stopping Robotnik/Eggman from completing the plan du jour, it was still enough to drive a game around.
And the series has gone from that to the deeper storylines (Adventure, Battle), as well as the not-so-deep (Heroes, Pinball Party)..but still, it's something.

SatAM was, and still is, one of the best cartoons I've ever seen. Maybe that's partially coming from the bias of a Sonic fan, but still, how many other cartoons at the time had its rather dark plot (well, there was also Batman...that was around at the same time, right?)? It was a short series, but a sweet one. Shame that a combination of Sega's pimping of Sonic X and DiC's laziness has deprived us of possibly ever seeing a dvd set release.

"Adventures of...", while lacking the deeper plot of SatAM, was still a decent cartoon for it's time. Animation was nothing special, either, but the demented nature of the show at times made up for it...I'd love to see an anime take on this particular series.

The Archie series has had its highs and lows, but when you think about it, things weren't always rosy for other comics. It's just a shame that everything seems to be so cramped these days (I'm guessing partially due to the cancellations of the Knuckles and Super Special series). I've been with it since #7, so I don't plan on quittin' on it any time soon. Besides, I can say I sort of know someone who works on it XP

Sonic X also shares the other continuities strengths and weaknesses. Following the seemingly apparent theme of "create original human character, then push official characters to sidelines" (don't think you're safe, Transformers and Megaman), it feels less like a Sonic series at times. But, there's been those golden episodes (name me ONE episode semi-featuring Super Sonic that didn't rock razz ).

Now, the OVA I have little complaints about. Sure, the voices took getting used to, but it was nice seeing Sonic in his roots as an action-based character. I just wish that something more was done with this continuity...there's quite a few original characters that I wouldn't mind learning more about (like Old Man Owl, and that minx Sera...rawr...).

I can't really judge Underground, as the most I've seen of that is perhaps two minutes. Though, the whole thing of breaking into random songs never was a favorite of mine, so maybe it's for the best. :/

So...uh, yeah...there's my great big rant...

I've seen every single fandom currently and love them all very much so, even the oft hated AoSTH and SU. Each fandom has it's ups and downs and provides it's own unique spice and variety the others can't. It keeps Sonic new and fresh for me. But... I suppose if I had to choose a top favorite, I'd have to go with SatAM. Archie being next in line.

Also... The world knew the name Robotnik a month before it knew Eggman, sorry to say.

Personally, I'm a games player, and never really got into the comics as much. However, I think you can't really call one continuity better than another. You can prefer one, or think one has more going for it.... but this is a purely subjective thing.

I prefer the gameuniverse, as it is the original source and isn't to much messed up on some parts.

You sir, I like.

You even touched up on ones I had completely forgotten (Sonic X, AoStH, and the OVA, and I loved the OVA. sad ). I'm glad you have such strong yet diverse and open-minded opinions. This fandom needs more people like you...not to say there aren't, but... >_>

Actually Eggman was his name in Japan. We got Robotnik cause we felt Eggman was too funny for a villian name. Don't know why they changed Earth to Mobius. I don't like other planets. Makes Sonic too sci-fi. I didn't add AoSth because it was old and I hardly know about it. I saw an episode once. The other one I knew nothing about. I saw OVA a lot when I was a kid. Rented it once at Vdeo Update(Now Movie Scene) and I watched it so much. I liked the part when Sonic got beat up but still beat Metal Sonic. I wished they showed Super Sonic more. Maybe it's because I like DBZ ninja

He's right of course, Sonic 1 came out in America before it came out in Japan. Hence why the Japanese version of Sonic 1 is the saught after one which doesn't have the annoying spike glitch and has moving backgrounds for Green Hill and various other minor upgrades which are subliminal enough to not notice but important enough for collectors to want.

Sonic X and the games are my current faves, especially after the ending to the Metarex series, whoever wrote that series knew what the characters were about and made them WORK.

Nostalgia demands I reference Fleetway, for it's mostly faithful adaption of S3&K and interesting plots, such as Super Sonic being evil or The Brotherhood of Metallix.

I couldn't pick a favourite though, there's too much I like and too much I hate.
