Sapphire eyes flitted over small whitecaps as they rushed on down the Senca river on their way to the ocean and a dark gray paw hung limply over the riverbank, barely touching the water. Other fox may prefer to spend time by the Yojio but for this girl the Senca was the perfect place to sit and think. She enjoyed watching the many fish that populated the river and she could faintly hear waves crashing onto the shore of the nearby beach. Stretching her paws out in front of her she laid her head down on the grass and lazily moved her tail to hang over into the water, enjoying the occasional nibble from the young fish.

Muscular legs pumped the determined black and silver male faster and faster with each passing second. He was on the hot trail of a sleazy Fox, who had recently assaulted another Fox by stealing his fish. All Seeley knew at that particular moment was the grass beneath his paws and the breeze that carried him along. Noting would stop him. Well, maybe except the fact that he’d lost the son of a Vixen completely. Halting in his furious run, he paused and panted harshly, scanning the area for any signs of the perpetrator.
While he didn’t see anything of immediate interest concerning the escapee, he did spot a gray female Fox lounging beside the river. Quietly, he approached her with no warning whatsoever. His movements were stealthy and virtually invisible due to years of rigorous training. When he was a mere three inches from her, he spoke aloud not in greeting, but in question.
“Pardon me, ma’am, but did you see a green an’ yellow fox hightailin’ it outta the area?” he asked breathlessly.

Having been so deep in relaxation that she didn't even register the soft padding of another fox approaching, Nasrin was unpleasantly shocked out of her musings when she heard the questioning voice of an unfamiliar fox a little too close. More than just a little startled she instinctively tried to get away, forgetting momentarily where exactly she was laying, and tumbled into the swift current behind her with a yelp.
Quickly swept under the surface she panicked as her sight was drastically reduced and the once dull roar of the river became the only sound that filled her ears. A few moments passed before she managed to break above the surface and get her bearings. The fox that had startled her was quickly fading from her sight and she could tell that she was approaching the beach after she managed to turn around.

It all happened so fast. One minute he’d been asking the female Fox a question, and the next she was swept away by the current like a leaf. Mentally scolding himself for having startled her, Seeley wasted no time jumping in the quickly moving water to handle the situation at hand. He was an excellent swimmer and found the task actually enjoyable when it didn’t involve fighting a rebellious current. His legs paddled determinedly while he kept his head above the water at all costs.
Upon nearing the gray Vixen, he sidled up beside her, keeping his paws moving beneath the surface. “Get on my back!” he instructed, raising his voice above the roaring sounds of the foamy water.

Being spun around in a strong river current was quickly making it's way down to the very bottom of her list of favorite things to do as Nasrin struggled to keep her head about the water. Her thoughts were mixed between reminding herself to never sit that close to the edge again and grumbling about the fox that had startled her when her ears perked as she heard his voice again.
Turning her head towards the male she pushed the he's-going-to-sink-if-I-grab-on thought away and nodded, though he probably couldn't see the small motion. It took her a moment of fighting with the water but eventually she managed to hook her forelegs over the males shoulders. Hoping that he knew what he was doing she held on for the ride.

When the damsel in distress was securely settled on his back, Seeley began for the distant shore, which looked farther than it actually was. Perhaps it felt that way because he was swimming for two now. Nevertheless, he didn’t mind, and was honestly glad he’d managed to save the gray Vixen from being taken under the current. A few minutes of swimming led him to soft sand, where he walked upon and carefully lowered his temporary passenger.
Once she was successfully lowered back on her feet, the agile male shook from ear to tail to rid his fur from the dripping salty droplets. Afterward, he turned to the female in concern. “You alright there, ma’am?” he asked, sitting back on his haunches. “I’m really sorry for scarin’ you back there. Guess I shoulda let you know I was approachin’ ya.”

When her paw touched sand Nasrin quickly aided the male by climbing off his back and backing up a few steps towards the water before sitting. Noting that his mouth was moving yet she wasn't hearing anything she tilted her head almost violently to one side then the other to clear the water out of her ears.
Still a little miffed from being scared into the river she ignored his questioning and shook out her fur a few times to make sure she had gotten rid of most of the moisture. When she felt that she was dry enough she stretched out on the warm sand and turned her gaze to the fox that had endangered and rescued her.
"Why did you assume that I had seen someone run by when I was turned towards the river and obviously not paying attention?"

A hybrid expression of guilt and embarrassment crossed Seeley’s features. His face felt hot beneath his fur, but he tried not to make that noticeable as he cleared his throat and straightened. “When you’re caught in the moment like that you don’t think straight. All you really concentrate on is fighting the adrenaline that’s pulsing through your body, you know? Even so, I’m really sorry,” he apologized meaningfully. “The name’s Seeley, by the way.”

After listening to the male, Seeley, explain Nasrin felt her expression relax and she shook out her tail a little more for good measure. "Actually I don't know but it's alright, no harm done. If you had just let me get swept down stream, however, I would have never spoken to you again." She spoke coolly but there was a hint of mischief in her eyes. "Nasrin, pleasure to meet you...I think."

Seeley laughed at her words – a deep, hearty laugh that revealed that there was a nice guy beneath all of that authoritative toughness. When the fit of hilarity passed, he tilted his head and offered the other Fox a friendly smile. “I don’t think I woulda been able to live with myself if I let ya get swept away,” he affirmed, amusement still glittering in his pale blue eyes. “Always a pleasure to meet someone. Especially a pretty gal like you.” For all the courage and selflessness this male upheld, he was still very much a guy, and was more than certified to throw out a pickup-line or two.

Nasrin found herself smiling as she listened to Seeley laugh, deciding that she rather liked the sound. "Good to know. I'll keep that in mind if I ever feel the need to make you feel guilty." Her tail twitching almost imperceptibly was the only response and indicator that she was even faintly embarrassed by the complment. "You flatter me, sir."
Running out of things to talk about, Nasrin found herself fidgeting and sat up on her haunches. "So tell me about this fox you were so intent on pursuing."

Abruptly, the smile that had been about Seeley’s maw faded and was replaced by an expression he normally provided when dealing with runaway punks. If there was one thing he hated it was Foxes who didn’t own up and accept the consequences of their actions. Especially when they damn well knew that they did something wrong. The silver-patterned male looked about quickly, as if talking about the absconder had brought him back into the area.
“I was chasin’ ‘im for a good mile an’ a half before he decided to give me the slip. He’s known for steelin’ fish in the area, and I wanted to make sure he was finally caught and taught a lesson so he wouldn’t do it again,” he explained, nodding. “Couple of my boys and I run a watch around Luna Grove. Y’know, to make sure folks can sleep safely with their kits at night knowin’ that we’re out there keepin’ an eye on things.”

Blinking as Seeley's expression changed so abruptly, Nasrin settled herself and listened as he explained what had been happening before he had become preoccupied with rescuing her.
Ears flicking back and forth slightly, she nodded when it seemed that he had finished his tale and tilted her head in thought. "I think I've heard of your little pack, though this would be the first time I've actually met a member. I'm glad to have encountered you on good terms." A grin spreading over her muzzle after implying that her falling into the river had been an ideal meeting point.

And just like before, his expression flipped like a coin, displaying the warm kindness that was buried beneath all of his thick valor. He admired Nasrin’s honesty and the way she said things; she wasn’t like some other gals he’d make acquaintances with in past meetings. No, she was… different, and he definitely liked it.
“Good terms or not, I’d never be as rough with a girl than I would with a guy. It’s just not my policy,” he replied truthfully.
Whether that made him sexist or not was entirely up to whoever wished to judge him. In any case, Seeley had never been one to shoot down an opportunity when it jumped out in front of him like a grasshopper. So, gathering himself to all agile fours, he smiled and addressed the female before him.
“This may be a long shot here, Nasrin, but I still feel bad about the whole river thing. Wouldya be interested in lettin’ me take you out to get somethin’ to eat?”

Nasrin nodded, finding it easy to talk to Seeley as she chuckled softly. "I'm not sure if that makes me feel safe or a little fearful." She mused as her eyes flitted back to the ocean as she felt moisture on her tail. With a frown she stood and trotted all the way back to the grass-line, not quite ready to become so intimate with the water again.
"I'm not sure, I'd have to check my very busy schedule." That she managed to keep a serious expression stunned the gray female, seeing as on the inside she was shaking with laughter.
