Ishizuke didn't even know where she was going when she fled Juno's house. All she knew was that she needed a lot of time to think about the offer he had made her, and that she couldn't do it with the mad scientist (because that was how she was beginning to think of her interim guardian) breathing down her neck. It was....odd, and frightening, and worrisome. Particularly the offer he had made her. How could he cure her?
It didn't even matter at this point; all she really needed was someone to talk to, someone who wasn't going to only grunt or make promises she was certain couldn't be kept. Which was probably why her legs, even if her head wasn't quite engaged, knew where they were going and brought her downtown, to the little cafe she had come into a handful of times. She was hoping he wasn't working and that she could grab him now, thankful that sunset still came early enough that it wasn't too late. When her head finally engaged, she realized exactly where it was she needed to go, and also realized that she wasn't entirely sure how to get there. Was it a right, or a left here? s**t, she had no idea. Stopping, panicked, on the corner, she looked around, standing stock-still like a rabbit in front of a snake, and then very, very slowly looked behind her. When she did, she relaxed. She had just walked past it, that was all. Thank God.
Turning back, she pushed the door open and walked in, taking a deep breath and inhaling the coffee smell. It wasn't entirely unique to this place, but the scent was comforting nonetheless. It was warm, and inviting. Which was what she needed. Walking up to the counter, she reached into her pocket and then hoped Becca was working, so she could ask for Jamie.

Rebecca was working alone today. After that rediculous party another garden had rented out for, she just wanted the place to have some peace and quiet. So she let Jamie take off too. Granted, she rarely forced him to work when he absolutely didn't want to (there were child labor laws after all), she insisted that he do something else this week.
The bell on the door alerted her to a customer. She stood up from behind the counter, her arms half full with biscotties to restalk one of the baskets with. Once she had managed to dump them in, to be arranged in a moment, she turned her gaze to see who it was. She was relatively surprised to see Ishizuke there and all by herself.
"Hello," she murmured, fussing with the biscottie packets, "I'm surprised to see you here. Can I get you something?"

Ishizuke smiled at Becca, but honestly, she was a little bit nervous about asking for Jamie. But at this point, she really needed someone to talk to, so she swallowed her fear and smiled. "Hello, Miss..." she paused and then realized she didn't know Becca's last name. "Miss Becca," she said after a moment, fighting down an embarrassed flush. "Um, if I can have a small hot chocolate, and....is Jamie here?"
She smiled nervously and unfolded a handful of ones from the small wad of cash she had pulled from her pocket, handing them over the counter.

"He's in his room I believe," Becca replied as she counted out the right amount of bills from the ones Ishizuka had offered. She did the math in her head, as she hated using the cash register, and handed Ishi the change. She immediately began to gather the ingredients, talking over her shoulder as she worked.
"I can take you to his room after I get this for you, it'll only be a second...whip cream?"

"Um, yes, thanks...that would be great," Ishi said, giving Becca a shy smile. "Sorry I'm here so late...but it's only been dark a bit and I had a bit of an argument with my...um...with Juno over whether or not I should be going out alone. And please," she added in response to the question about whipped cream, fidgeting a little bit in the presence of this woman. It wasn't that she hadn't seen her before; she recalled Becca being rather nice, but...she was her friend's mom. And an adult. And Ishi wasn't very good with adults.
She wasn't really good with people in general, though...so she supposed there really wasn't much that could be done. Waiting quietly, she ran through the reasons she had come out. She needed to talk to someone, a friend, and Jamie was really the only one of those she had. That was why she was there.

"Don't worry about it," Becca replied easily. The hour certainly didn't bother her and neither did Ishi's visit. It was a good thing that someone had come to call for Jamie...she wasn't very social herself, so she didn't push it, but it wasn't healthy for him to be separated from the world so. She filled a cub with the mixed hot chocolate, steam billowing up nicely before she put on some whipped cream and snapped the lid on. She slid it across the counter for Ishi and then headed around back as she whiped her hands on her apron, "Follow me."
She headed through the door behind the counter. Moving down a short hall, past the kitchen, she came to a staircase. From there she went up and to the first door on the left. The door wasn't closed, but the lights did seem rather dim inside. There were a few laps, but all had narrow, concentrated beams and didn't light up the room.
"Jamie, Ishizuke's here to see you," she said, before turning and going back to man her shop.
Jamie looked up quickly from where he had been crouched. Scraps of metal and wires littered the room, along with scraps of paper and notes. His face was smeared with something black, as were some of his clothes. It was definately different than how he looked out in the cafe'. His look was surprised, but not unpleasantly so. He smiled, jumping up and going over to the doorway, "Hey Ishi."

"Thanks," Ishi murmured when the cocoa was handed to her, taking it and blowing through the hole of the lid to cool it. She wasn't even sure she wanted to drink it at the moment, but the warmth of the cup in her hands was comforting. Moving slightly nervously around the counter to follow Rebecca, she marveled at the idea that she was actually behind the counter in a store, but didn't have much else time to think, becuase she needed to keep an eye on Becca. The entire configuration was pretty cool, and the upstairs looked comfortable. Ishi liked the idea of living over a shop and wondered if Jamie felt the same as she did, since he did it every day.
Peering into the room, it took a moment for her eyes to adjust, but she was comfortable in the dark and it didn't last too long. Smiling at Jamie, she waved with her free hand. "Hi, Jamie," she said. "You building something?" Trying to peer around him into the room, she looked at the notes and tried to figure out what was going on. Her issues could wait until her curiosity was satisfied.

"Yeah...I guess I am," he laughed, rubbing the back of his head smearing some of the black stuff in his hair. Oh well. He was dirty anyway, right? Dirt never hurt anyone. Or slime. Or whatever it was that he had all over him. "I feel like that's all I ever do sometimes...don't even know what it's going to do yet. Though I do have some ideas..."
He shook his head, moving over to his bed and clearing away an area among the messy covers if she wanted to sit down. "How've you been?" He asked, as he dumped some tools onto the floor. It was funny that the lack of a seat bothered him more than the mess.

Ishi couldn't help but smile at the fact that he had absolutely nowhere to sit. She had seen Mercury when she got onto an engineering kick, and it really looked like the same sort of situation. All people who built stuff were the same in that respect. Given an idea, they'd totally forget about the rest of the world for ages. "Well, when you figure it out, it'll be a suprise for everyone, right?" she asked.
Slipping into the room and sitting on the bed, she considered the question thoughtfully. How had she been? ....Weird. "....Weird," she admitted, running a hand through her hair and pondering the rest of that answer. "Mama's away at this convention with Nereus, and they couldn't leave me and my sister home alone, so they sent us to live with a coworker..." she frowned. "He's weird. Like...kinda scary weird."

"I guess so," he agreed with a short laugh, waiting a moment before shrugging and taking a seat on the floor among the scattered pieces. If he had on something, well, he didn't mind. He was probably more used to sitting there then anywhere else anyway.
"How's he scary? And weird?" Jamied asked, seeming more curious than concerned. It wasn't that he didn't care that she seemed at odds by the situation, it was just that it presented a new puzzle. He wasn't sure he could figure anything out, having never met this adult she spoke of, but he was more than willing to try. He liked a challenge.

"Yeah," Ishi answered, inclining her head and trying to find better words to put to Juno. He was a surprisingly difficult man to describe. She frowned as she considered it. "He's, uh...I'm not really sure." She fell silent, marshalling a more coherent description. "He's kind of mad-scientist-y. And just...not very pleasant. Kind of mean. Almost like Doctor Frankenstein," she finished, shrugging and looking at her hands. "I mean...he hasn't really done anything to me, but Mama hates him, and so does Angelique, for some reason. It's just weird," she finished, shrugging and tossing her head to knock the hair out of her eyes as she looked at Jamie.
"What about you? How've you been?" she asked, stalling while she tried to get a handle on the question she ultimately wanted to ask Jamie. It was kind of hard to put to words.

"If they don't like him, why'd they leave you with him?" He asked. He was so puzzled by the idea that he didn't even bother to comment on how he'd been doing...it just wasn't as interesting to him. Her situation just seemed so strange and he was trying to figure it all out. He didn't assume that anything bad had happened. She hadn't said anything yet that suggested it, at least not clearly.
"Maybe next time you should stay here," he suggested openly.

"I reckon because they really don't know a hell of a lot of other people who are willing to put up with a girl with photodermatitis," Ishizuke answered with a shrug. "It's kind of a high-maintenance disorder." She paused, then blinked when Jamie made the suggestion that the next time around she stay with him. ".......I never thought of that," she said slowly, blinking. "And I don't think Mama would have, either." She shook her head slowly, then grinned at Jamie. "That would be kinda fun." But then she paused, and frowned.
"Would you be able to deal with Angelique? She's.....not all there, I guess is a good way to put it. Slow." She frowned, chewing her lower lip as she considered other ways in which to phrase her sister's...deficiencies. "Yeah, slow's the only real way I can describe it."
