Shake it Off and Make Your Way
Abla and Red XIII

User Image User Image

So tired of feeling blue.
Such a heavy weight on you.
So shake it off and make your way
to somewhere different.
To somewhere different.
Oh no now you’re leaving me
oh what will you do all alone
in the big bad world?
I'm not worried, no.

Cause you’re gonna skip along,
Quite merrily, baby.
you’re gonna revel in hating
what’s goin' on
And you’re like a sugar bomb
and no harm will come,
no harm will come if you
just skip along.

Acting oblivious.
Comes natural to us.
Keep smiling knowing all the while
the world will fall apart.
The world will fall apart.

Red stopped in the middle of the field and climbed on to the odd rocky outcrop, looking over the flat plain and it's waving, dull green grass. Winter hadn't been treating the area well here, and the lower temperatures were making the usually lush plain appear a bit deadened. With a shrug, he settled down on to his stomach, the rocks warm regardless of the partly cloudy sky. No use worrying; the grass was resilient and would look as it usually did in just a few more months.

Abla paused as she walked, sniffing the air then making a small face. The cold air was making the scents a little off for her... She flicked her tail behind her before she started her trot again. She knew these lands. She had been here so many times. She, however, couldn't see the damage that was done to the grasses during this hard season. But she could smell the staleness of the death in the air. She licked her lips as she trotted. She knew where she going, she had been there so many times. Making her way toward the rocks. She could see a faint outline of of them, a darker color black in her dark vision. She didn't noticed the shape of a lion on them however, he just blended in. She didn't pick up a scent either... The winds were going the other way...

Red shifted, and his head flew up. An unfamiliar lion... No. He checked again. A lioness. His ears swiveled - there was just one. His muscles relaxed a bit, but he kept his good eye on the horaizon, searching for a faint outline through the grass. The constant breeze kept the grass moving, so he wouldn't be able to tell until she got close enough...

There.

Just at the edge of his sight, he saw her tail feathers first, then the dark shape moving through dull grass. His eyes narrowed slightly, and his claws crept out. Most likely he was more a threat to her than she to him, but that didn't mean he shouldn't be on his guard.

Right as Abla started to scale up the rocks she paused. Her foot mid step from touching down on the rock. She smelt the slightest tension in the air, she could feel it. Her head shifted and she inhaled the air around her. Putting her foot down on the ground. She could now smell the scent of a male.

She didn't know him.

"Hello?" She called out. Her face in the direction of the male, however her gaze was off into the distance. She took a few steps forward before stopping and sitting down. She didn't know these rocks and she didn't want to fall off. She learned just to go a little bit then stop, sit, and make yourself comfortable.

Red was peering down at her now with his one eye and his brows furrowed, "Greetings there," he responded in his rough, foreign-accented voice, immediately sensing that she was of no threat to him. Carefully and quickly, he examined her eyes and their distant stare. He'd seen that look before, long ago in his past... She was blind, or at least partially. He sat back and let his haunches relax and his claws retract. No use in feeling like a threat and spooking her... He didn't need any fighting.

Abla relaxed herself as she could feel the tension in the air drop. It was no longer there and she sure could relax now. She licked her lips for a moment then her head moved a little more directly in the males direction. She still wasn't looking exactly at him but the least she could to was look in his direction. "Hello, I hope I'm not interrupting anything..." She said a bit quietly, her voice soft. Non-threatening in anyway, she knew some of the lions around in this area were a little defensive. She didn't want to start anything, not at all. She also didn't want a fight. She just came to sunbathe some, however the conversation didn't sound all that bad.

"Mmmm..." Red shifted his weight a bit and glanced around, "Nothing here worth interrupting, my blind acquaintance," he commented, so she knew that he was aware of her blindness. That way she wouldn't feel the need to act as though she could see him, and he hoped that would make her a bit more comfortable. He now took a moment to examine the lioness more closely with his one eye, laughing slightly at the irony...

The red roses marking her seemed to caress her form and compliment her dark fur, the leaves of the vines being a beautiful compliment to the dark red and the black.

He shook his head slightly, the beads in his mane tapping against his chest. He nearly apologized for staring before he realized that she wouldn't have known...

Abla relaxed even more as he talked, he was no harm and unlike others he easily picked up that she was blind, that was good, no awkward explanations. She loved it when she got to skip those, oh she love it a lot. She let her hair fall out of her eyes and then didn't mind where they wandered. She still kept her face in the direction he was in just out of habit. "Ah, thank you for letting me know. I hope you don't mind if I stick around a bit. I normally wander around here, I've never... seen, in a sense of the word, you here." She flashed a small smile before nodding and slipping down so she was laying out on her stomach, her legs neatly tucked against her, the smile still on her face. She was in a pretty good mood today.

Red let out a bit of a sigh in a 'you're welcome' fashion before settling down on his stomach, forepaws and head hanging over his rock and looking down at hers. "I've seen quite a few blind lions," he said, not saying why or where before continuing on. "I'm more of a desert lion myself, but I decided to take a leisurely stroll today... Found myself in a new place and decided to explore."

Abla closed her eyes, resting her head on her paws closing her eyes relaxing further. She felt like she could trust this male. Don't get her wrong though, if he attacked she would get back at him... and if her brother found out... She was wondering if he knew about King Santos... Probally did... Then again he was a desert lion... She licked her lips before nodding. "Ah, I see, It is very nice around there parts I really hope that you enjoy it." She flashed him a smile.

"Oh, I don't know..." He smiled slightly, the muscles in his face relaxing as he continued. "These plains areas are nothing compared to the desert, if you ask me. The ground is too firm and there are too many places to hide..." He looked around a bit and chuckled. Where he was from, you were a good warrior because you didn't have the chance to use tactics. If your enemy saw you, it was a fight to the death where you were - the desert left nothing to the imagination when it came to the landscape in most places you'd be caught alone.

Abla couldn't help but to chuckle a bit as the male said that it wasn't like the desert. She flicked her hair out of her eyes for a the moment, she didn't need to see but it was a habit of hers after a while, if she wasn't thinking that much it was really just one of the things that she did, or if some one or something was catching her interest. This male was interesting for sure. She hadn't run into a desert lion in a while, not at all. "If you don't mind me asking sir, what is your name?" She asked her voice softing for the moment a a small smile growing on her lips.

Red watched her intently. Since her eyes were not the window to the soul, that meant her actions were... "My name is Red XIII," he responded after only half a beat spent watching that smile. "And yours?"

Abla sat up some, nodding to his name. "Red XIII." She nodded, she right away thought about her daughter, Red Wine... She shrugged off the thought before speaking. "My name is Abla." She flicked her tail behind her stretching out slightly as she did. She was curious of what he looked like... She shook off the thought once more.
