I wasn't sure where else to ask this. But I know that when a woman is on birth control, she shouldn't smoke, because it's a big risk factor (Not sure what those exact risks are, seeing as I'm not on any type of birth control, but that's beside the point.)
So my question is: If a NON-smoker is on birth control, but lives in a house with a smoker and takes in second-hand smoke pretty much on a daily basis, is the non-smoker at risk, like a smoker on birth control would be?
Thanks!

There is a birth control subforum. Anyways, the risk is because both smoking and birth control can cause blood clots. If you are on birth control and smoking the risk for blood clots (which can spread to the lungs and be fatal) goes up. It depends how long the non-smoker on birth control was surrounded by the second hand smoke. Sometime second hand smoke can be as bad as smoking. I'd say avoid the smoke as much as possible, ask the smoker to only smoke in one room or outside.

It'll be hard to avoid the smoke, Mom smokes all the time in the house. Usually she'll keep it limited to just in her room downstairs, but I can still smell it from the mid-level of the house. Her boyfriend smokes as well when he's over here, but he doesn't live at home with us. She doesn't smoke outside during the cold winters, but she will during the summer often enough.
I'm not on any type of birth control right now, I don't see the need for me to be. Seeing as I'm not sexually active, nor do I have a boyfriend.
But it was just a thought that concerned me and I just couldn't stop wondering. Plus, I do know the day will come when I'll need to know these things anyways, so I just thought I'd educate myself beforehand.
Thanks for your help Malina_Mango ^_^

You may be a virgin and have no boyfriend, but birthcontrol can be very useful for managing and handling your periods. You just need to be careful and talk to a proper doctor before beginning to take it.

The next time you talk to your doctor, it might be worth asking. 3nodding
