No matter what anyone else said, life was hard for a cub. At least, to Melusine it seemed so. She wanted to play, but her mother wouldn't allow it. She wanted to go out and do what she wanted, but her mother wouldn't allow it. Parents sucked. Even though, they really didn't. Her mother wanted the best for her, even though she didn't turn out quite how her mother wanted. Melusine flicked her tail back and forth as she made her way down a path.
She had simply stormed out on her mother. Of course, she'd get in big trouble when she was back, but for now it was ok. For that was later, and this was now. She was getting older, and the closer she got to being an adult, the less free time she'd have roaming about. She had to get all that out of her system now.
Of course, she was very determined to make her pride happy. Things had changed since she was a cub. She knew that she could never be in a higher rank, that she'd simply be perfect for being in a higher rank, but her colors just wouldn't allow her to. It was very depressing for her. Though, as she accepted it, she decided it didn't matter as much anymore.
She needed someone to pick on to make her feel better. Or something to chase around. There was so much around the jungle, that it was almost impossible to find something to do. She continued on down the bath. Ears slightly back from annoyance.

And that 'someone' to pick on was happening by.
Little Aysu, new to her paws and to the world, was tottering doggedly through the undergrowth, picking her way slowly through roots, vines and thorns, trying to move as slowly as possible - but failing miserably. One day she'd be queen of stealth, but until she'd mastered walking the silence would have to come another day.
After a good few moments undercover, she finally emerged onto one of the jungle paths, created by the paws of the lions in her pride.
Alas, if it were not for her being so small and tiny, there would be nothing 'cute' about this little girl at all. Her colours clearly marked her as a Shikar-i, lowest ranking of all females. She was slate grey, with tints of her mother's darkest blue on her toes, tail-tuft and the bit of fuzz poking out between her ears. Her face was freakishly pale, almost as if she were constantly sick and this pale mask was set with angry blue eyes that were framed with blue markings, abstract tears, perhaps. To make matters worse, she was neither slender nor elegant looking. She was bigger than a lot of her siblings due to being second-born, but this seemed to do hre no favours at all. She had massive, clumsy paws that would take a while to grow into, a heavy-set head and an otherwise haggard walk that suggested days of walking rather than the few minutes it had been. Yes, she was indeed an ugly child. Especially when compared to some of the other beautiful children of the Kunada'nakhun, and vain or not, the cubs here were often extremely beautiful.
Since emerging onto the path she had seemingly frozen in place, her little body rigid. For she'd heard another approaching and feared who it might be. Someone come to steal her away? Monsters from the stories? Or worse...her mother?
Aysu gave a small mewling sound in the back of her throat and flattened herself somewhat, preparing to make a run for it if need be. Not that she'd get very far in any case.

(sorry about the wait!)
Melusine soon found herself with another in front of her not too far away. At first she didn't realize what she was looking at. To her it was something of disgusting colored creature. Though, she soon realized it was another cub. She eyed her carefully. Being slightly bigger then the other cub, but not too much she eyed her some more. "What do you want." She spoke in a harsh voice. Her orange fur stood out so vibrantly that made Melusine so proud to be her at the moment.
A smirk came to her face as she now knew why she ran into this female. She'd treat her like crap and feel better about herself for the day. At least right now it seemed like a good idea. her tail flicked back and forth as she stood there waiting for the other to react to her words before continuing on.

Aysu straightened a little as the other female came into view, less afraid now that she was it was only a little lion. Well...not as little as she was, but certainly smaller than mother. That meant she had to be less scary, right? Well, she sure hoped so.
Then, just as she was lifting her ears and thinking of what to say, the girl blurted out at her and any hope she had of finding a friend died. Oh no. Not another lioness like her mother! Was this whole place going to treat her like dirt just because she was grey and ugly? She bit back the tears, though they sprang instantly to her eyes. What was she going to say to that?
"U-u-u-uh...um..." She faltered, embarrassed. "Nothing. J-j-just w-w-w-w-walking." She moved sideways to circle around and give a wide berth to this unfriendly, pretty girl. "G-goodbye."

Melusine rolled her eyes, after feeling bad for hurting the other's feelings of course. She wasn't totally heartless, she just wanted to impress her mother. Her sister was almost completely ignored because of the mostly white pelt she had. She moved closer to the other, but in a more friendly manner. She eyed the female one more time and sighed. "You really need to stick up for yourself if you want anyone to treat you better even with those colors."
She said that more as a "Please, don't go" without really saying those words exactly. Melusine liked any company, though she couldn't really act nice to those who were lower rank then her. She learned it from watching others in the pride. Seeing how everyone else reacted to those who were of lowest rank. To her, it was normal, to other's it was probably sicking.
"If you want, I can make you tougher." She said with a grin. Not really sure what she was doing, and probably was a very bad influence on the other, but that was not in her mind right now. No. She needed someone she could boss around, and possibly get her to do stuff for her. Yes, take advantage of this girly.

She paused to cast a glance at the pretty girl, noting that she was in fact very pretty. Aysu briefly wished she had a pelt like this one. Orange was better and brighter than blue, which in her opinion, wasn't exactly an amazing colour.
However, this girl had piqued her interest now and the little cub turned to regard her thoughtfully. "Stick u-up for myself?" What did she mean by that? Wasn't it better to slip on by unnoticed, especially when she was clearly outranked here. In any case, it seemed the orange one wasn't going to hurt her just yet so maybe she could stick around - just for the timebeing at least. "Like s-shout back? I tried that with Mother. Doesn't work. She just hits me across the h-head and tells me to s-shutup. So I do. Then I'm ignored. It's better that way." Or was it? She didn't like being hit but she certainly didn't like being ignored either.
"What am I supposed to do?" She asked finally, drawing back. "How could you make me tougher?" Her cold eyes softened a little and she sat tentatively, curling her stubby tail around her. "I doubt even Mother could do that..."

"Your not suppose to talk back to your mother." She told her in a voice that was like "Didn't you know" type thing. "But if someone else comes up to you, are you just going to let them say what they want to you?" Melusine of course wouldn't if someone said rude things to her, but she couldn't control her mouth yet. She'd learn when she was older perhaps.
This other was a helpless case it seemed, but Melusine could change her. "Easy." She started. "First you need more confidence." She nodded "You gotta be the tough one of your rank." Melusine continued. "can't just expect to be noticed and treated greatly if you sit there and let them walk all over you." Since she was a cub, Melu was determined to become a higher rank then what she was. She always wanted to prove them wrong for putting her in the wrong rank.
Damn that white on her fur. She would have been so great. So great, indeed. She flicked her tail. "You have to change the way you walk, and see things." She told her. "Walk with your head up, like your the only thing that matters." She started to pose for her. Head high up, with her nose pointing towards the sky. Eyes shut, as if no one else around mattered.
She looked back at the cub. "Your turn"

Aysu scowled at that. Not supposed to talk back to your mother? Well, she supposed that did sort of make sense. She was Mother after all, but that didn't mean she had to like her. In fact, Aysu was looking forward to the day when she could leave her home den and make her own somewhere else in the pride - as far away as possible. Then she'd barely need to look at her mother any more.
Both ears lifted expectantly, wondering what sort of advice this older girl could offer. What it was surprised her more than she let on.
"But Shikar-i aren't supposed to be great. We're supposed to g-go by unnoticed. Mother says so. If I changed all of that stuff, wouldn't I be breaking a law? Acting like a Gasht or a Rawal doesn't seem right." But she wanted to give it a go and she tilted her chin a little higher. The motion, coupled with her cold look made her seem defiant. It certainly helped her look stronger and bigger.
She drew in a little breath. "Like this?"

Melusine would never leave her mother. Though, her mother was very loving towards her, and gave her everything she needed. She flicked her tail as she watched the other. She almost choked on air when the other said what she said.
"Just because of a rank, doesn't mean you can't exceed it's expectations." She told the other. She almost wanted to smack the other for being so stupid. She signed. "It just means your less important then them, not that you can't be say, as strong or opened minded.." To tell the truth Melusine didn't know all the rules of the pride, her mother was still slowly teaching her them. Little by little.
She nodded at the cubs imitation of what she had done only moments ago. "Good. You start walking around like that, and no one will mess with you." She nodded. "No matter what rank you are." Of course, Melusine wasn't sure if that was true or not. "And as long as you don't get into a fight with a higher ranker then I'm sure nothing will happen." Another thing she wasn't sure about but it made her seem very smart.

She wasn't sure whether she believed this girl or not. She doubted lifting her head higher would make her mother think better of her, or make anyone pay her any attention. She knew what she was. Knew it with pain in her heart. She was who she was and nothing was going to change that. And yet, she would do it. She would hold up her head and see if that helped things. It couldn't exactly make them worse.
"I guess I'll give it a go." She shrugged, making sure to keep her head up. Aysu didn't want to be important. She didn't desire to be a greater rank than she was. She just didn't want to be treated badly because she was lower down the food chain than anyone else.
"Peh, get into a fight with a higher rank? I have just as much chance of winning than they do. Just cos they're bright on the outside doesn't mean they're bright on the inside."
She stood and gave her new 'friend' a wary glance. "No offense, of course."

"You act as if what they say doesn't bug you, and soon it'll stop." She told the other as if she had been there before. Though she hadn't. It was her sister who went threw all the bad treatment. Melusine, being not as high as she wanted, got pampered and loved and all attention she could imagine when it was just her or someone with a less rank then her. She'd never really been around someone else with another her age but higher rank.
"Well, the higher the rank, the more training you get, or did you forget that small detail." Melusine told the other as if she knew everything. Though her mother did tell her. They would all be trained, but those higher would need to be stronger in case they are needed for battle. It was great honor to go to battle she figured, which was why they gotta go to it and be stronger.

Aysu narrowed her eyes. She couldn't make this girl out. On one paw she was trying to help her, but the other...well, the cub was getting the impression that she really didn't think much of Shikar-i herself.
With a huff, she lifted her head higher - a fast learner apparently - and moved a step backwards, showing her intentions of taking her leave from this conversation.
"No, I didn't." She cleared her throat. "I'll teach myself. Teach myself better than anyone. Then I'll show everyone. I'll show Mother and I'll show you." She curled a lip. "Then everyone'll learn to fear me. Not just cos of my ugly face, but cos this face'll have bite."
And with an angry mewl, she turned and moved off into the undergrowth.

Melusine shrugged at the other. "Well, if you change your mind, I'll be around. But don't think I'll be too open to help you next time." She said with a snotty tone. She didn't like her help being rejected. She huffed up too, making her look fatter then she was, but also bigger. So lower rank lionesses weren't there for adventure and different thing.
She laughed at the cub. She'd never be anything but what her rank was. She watched the cub run off. She wondered if she gave the cub any type of motivation to become a better Lioness. Though even if she tried, Melusine still thought she'd fail. She smirked and continued to walk the way she was heading.
