The Last Remnant
Released: 11/20/08
System: x-box 360/Playstation 3
Story:
The story takes place around the main character named Rush who is an 18 year old boy who lived in a village named Eulam. On the day him and his sister were suppose to prepare to move to where there parents are working at his sister, Irina, gets kidnapped by an unknown man. Rush, unable to save her, quickly rushes after her but fails to catch up and instead stumbles into a battlefield that was taking place between two kingdoms.
He quickly meets the king David who is known as the Marquis of Athlum who agrees to help him find his sister although for his own objectives. In the process of this search Rush learns that he has an odd power to call out to Remnents like his sister. He also learns that Irina has something to do with remnants (but has no knowledge of her ability) which is why she was kidnapped. From that point on after her disappearance...Rush constantly follows clues to finding her and learning more about the Remnants.
Gameplay: Not Bad.
The graphics weren't bad. They were very similar to squaresoft's other game called 'Infinite Undiscovery '. I noticed flaws with the character graphics but otherwise it's OK.
World Map: You basically can more from place to place using a map. You click on the location and it will load you to the new place. Like a city or cavern/dungeon. As you progress through the game more places become available to the player.
Towns: When you enter a town you can choose what 'district' or part of town you want to go to. Then you can run around in that area, talk to some characters, shop, stop at a guild and grab new warriors to join your union and find side quests from NPC's.
Battle System: This is different and something new. You have your main characters and then other characters that can fight with you as well in battle. It looks like a battle field but it's turn based in a way. The party of characters are grouped and called a 'Union' and share one life bar. Each character added to the union you form can increase various things like the life bar/strenght/ect...
When a battle starts you can command what you want your party to do. Then they will all take action. In the game you can have more than one union. Sometimes there are even guest unions that join you in battle (NPC). Counting on how the battle goes there are different battle plays like for example: if your union is in a deadlock with an enemy union...then your 2nd union can attack from the side giving you an advantage called "Flank Attack".
Characters: A good amount actually. You can even join regular NPC's into your union for battles. One union consists of around 5 party members (I estimated...have to re-check that or if anyone can update me).
Rate: 5/10
Well, I didn't want to rate it too low nor too high. There are people who rated this game a 10/10 and others who thought it was just plain horrible. So I guess you can go either way.
The story wasn't impressive and the characters not too unique. The battle system is unique and new but I found it was OK after a while....
To me this game wasn't really worth the buy but more worth trying at least once....my advice is to rent it first and THEN buy it if you like it.
Since I bought it already -__- ...I'll continue playing it and update if it's gets more interesting.
