[-PART I-]
"Once Upon A Dream"
PostPosted: Wed Jan 21, 2009 5:51 pm

It had all started many years ago, it had been so long that he could scarcely recall how much time had drifted beneath his nose since the day he had been subject to such pain. He had lost her that day, the mare he had worshipped for all those years and why...? He could have been bitter about it, remained disgusted at the 'weakness' of her decision but he had been raised better than that. She had chosen the safer option, the guarantee of a home and security. With the stallion she had chosen she could have children and would never be subject to the nomadic life style of the Shrine's guardian. He'd been young when she had severed ties with him and had matured considerably since then but it was not without it's mark...

The years had passed by and he had continued to guard his shrine but the whispers of the soquili herd that she had been welcomed into were still with him. He was unreliable, his lifestyle too dangerous to expect any other to remain in his presence for long. Like all those who had come before him he was a guardian and nothing more. Passersby would be his company and those who travelled often would be his aquaintance but there would be none who would stay. They had more comfortable homes and these homes were not under the constant threat of malevolent spirits or violent beasts. A long time ago it had seemed like they had questioned his competance but deep down he had grown to understand.

These last few years had certainly not been kind to him though, and since his introduction to these 'Kawani Lands' his health had become considerably worse. In terms of his physical condition he was fine, but the paranoia within his mind was taking it's toll. He shied from those around him, sought out the quieter regions in favour of solitude and chose not to draw attention to himself. While he had a duty to rebuild the relationships between his family, it was still very apparent that the Kawani lands were more compressed and there were so very many herds.

It was claustophobic.

He rarely showed his discomfort in public as few ever encountered him, but unbeknownst to him these issues troubled his mind so greatly that he had become restless. He'd had bouts of restlessness during the immediate years of his abandonment and through patience had perseverence had tamed them. However these new lands had unsettled him and as a consequence he rarely felt as though he got any decent sleep. You see, unbeknownst to the stallion, he was a sleepwalker and quite an active one. He could converse in his sleep and function as though he were a normal soquili...His mind never rested and headaches were now common place.

This evening was of no exception to the stallion, there would be no night of easy sleep and he was once again on his hooves. Drifting through the forests, the night-walker 'navigated' his way out of his hidden grove and progressed towards the meadows that lay ahead. A soft hum escaped his lips and broke the silence of the slumbering meadow, while the ethereal glow of his eyes seemed to pierce through the dark veil that lay draped over the grasses.

To a dozing creature he was nothing more than a phantasm, moving quietly through the grasses...

A young soul, Amorette was nowhere near settled. It feels like it was just yesterday that she had escaped her basket but that was long enough ago now... Her history was short but she already knew that she wanted to make history. Amorette's upbringing was rather decent; her family was everything to her and they taught her everything she knew now. She was a daydreamer and she dreamed about everything possible. Her optimistic outlook on all living things was refreshing and she liked to fabricate stories about them. Others might like to think that she was naive but she thinks that she seems the good.

Her ethereal form moved through the night with ease. She approached a small meadow and began to make her way through the long grass. Humming peacefully, Amorette felt at ease being alone. She liked socializing but being by herself let her think without having too many distractions.

The petite mare looked up at the moon thoughtfully. It was so bright today... Smiling softly, Amorette turned her head to look at something moving towards her. Another soquili? It was so late though. She looked at his dark form and she began to walk towards him. Even if he was unfriendly, she still would have approached him.
PostPosted: Wed Jan 21, 2009 6:33 pm

Her naivity probably would have alarmed him in an awakened state, her preparedness to encounter one that could potentially destroy her. However, the fates had quelled such sensibilities this evening and the stallion pressed on with sufficient ease. The mutated blood within his veins had long since warped his form (to a degree) and the closer he drew to the mare, the more apparent his true height became. He was monstrous in size, a definite 'image' of his father in that respect if nothing else. That said, despite the maturity of his facial features and the darkened coat his expression was otherwise serene. The mare was safe in that regard - there would be no assaults, murders or violence this night as it simply wasn't in the nature of this stranger.

Still her hoof steps had not gone unnoticed and his glowing gaze shifted downwards to meet the eyes of the petite mare that now 'opposed' him. She had a gentle and youthful face, kind eyes that would engrave themselves into his memory. If nothing else came of this evening's encounter then he could at the very least awaken the next morning with a smile on his lips. An ethereal nymph had graced his dreams and one of the finest quality - soft song and grace... now she need only dance and she would have him on his knees.

Alright, so in his slumbering form he was indeed exagerating but he could not disapprove of the company he had been provided with.

"A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song..." he offered softly, his ears twitching lightly as her gentle lull caught their tips. "But as the birds slumber, it seems that you choose to sing on their behalf," he continued. A smile lined his lips, creasing the corner of his eyes - it was just as well that she couldn't see beneath the glow for the dullness of his 'true' gaze would have shown he was in deep slumber. "Such consideration is rare in these lands - you have my thanks for granting me a taste of your lullaby, M'lady."

She didn't need to move any further. As he approached, her petite form was getting smaller and smaller. Amorette was already smaller then a usual mare; if it was anybody else, they would have been intimidated by this stallion's figure but not she. Gazing at his features, she knew that he would be difficult to forget. His eyes, the tail, the horn, everything about him made him... very different from the soquili she was used to.

Amorette knew no fear but she understood there were dangers in these lands. Though, she did not let these restrictions hinder her in any way. Living her life to the fullest was something Amorette believed to be a key essential in life. She liked to think that every soquili had some kindness in them, some more difficult to bring out then others.

The stallion seemed... normal enough so far. She would have never guessed that he was sleepwalking.

Her humming drifted into the darkness. And her lips turned into a sweet smile, Amorette listened to the words he spoke. If it wasn't so dark, her blush would have been quite noticeable but she was lucky enough to have the night to surround her. "Wow. I have never been complimented so. Thank you stranger." Like she had said, she had never heard words like that before. Who was this stallion?
PostPosted: Thu Jan 22, 2009 8:42 am

Who was he?

Well he was most certainly not 'himself', a shy creature that often shunned the company of others. Instead he was the representation of what the stallion should have been prior to the events that had scarred him. His subconcious had burrowed deep into his heart and the charming and eloquent socialite had been introduced to the world. Afterall, in a world of dreams there were none to judge - this world was of his creation and the mare nothing more than a phantasm within his head. A nymph created by him to accompany him on a lonely night, to save his soul wandering endlessly through open fields without the smallest bit of contact. Or at least this was what he would assume in the morning when he opened his eyes and recalled his 'dream' with quiet pleasure.

Her blush was not totally unnoticed though, her pale coat illuminated by both the moon and his own eyes provided just enough light to give way to the smallest of glimmers. The colour and warmth it brought to the mare's tender features caused him to chuckle and he bowed his head out of respect for her gratitude. There was certainly something deeply satisfying about the pleasure one felt from the kind words of another, spoken words were so powerful on occasions. "Gratitude for such truths is unnecessary," he whispered gently, his head lowering somewhat so that she need not crane her own head up quite so much. He was tall, but not without etiquette and an awareness of another's comfort.

"Though I ask for your forgiveness in my lack of manners, perhaps I should have introduced myself before interrupting your reverie," the warm smile never left his lips and he blinked his eyes slowly. He'd always been brought up to note that a pause was necessary for one to absorb the words before they were supplied with further knowledge, he was not teacher but he could understand this at the very least. "Those I was raised by blessed me with the name 'Azzinoth', it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance..."

"However I must once again apologise for intruding upon your moonlit wanderings, it was not my intention to be quite so direct."

She knew that she was only safe in her own mind. Her music and stories were just a physical interpretation of what she was thinking. Amorette wanted to live in her dream world so it was easy for her to lose focus on reality.

Smiling, Amorette was still very flattered by his compliment and she was interested in getting to know this strange stallion better. She already knew that he had a way with words which was very unique. "Oh, please do not ask me to forgive something so trivial." But then she was distracted by something he had said. Reverie. Heh. Amorette liked that word because she basically was in a reverie every moment of her life. She was rather amused by this stallion so far. "Azzinoth." The mare repeated after he had said his name to help her remember it more easily.

"The pleasure is all mine Azzinoth. My name is Amorette. Oh, please don't apologize." Smiling softly, Amorette thought apologies were unnecessary and only actions could really make up for anything. "You were not intruding at all. If anything, I was intruding on your walk by approaching you." She giggled musically at their conversation. They were both much too polite for their own good but she liked that about Azzinoth so far.

"We both just happened to be around at the same time. It's funny how things worked like that."

A way with words? Perhaps he had the influence of many a passing soquili to thank for that and the priests that had tended to him regularly at the shrines. He had always been eloquent (though shy), even in his own language he had been more than capable of expressing himself when necessary. He excelled as a diplomat for that reason, while he may have appeared imposing it was the delicate mannerisms and his addressal to those in question that benefitted him. Still, it was a pleasure to be recognised for having such an ability and he would have once again expressed his gratitude for her consideration.

Nevertheless he was no mindreader (dream or not) and instead he merely smiled as his introduction was returned and his apologies were cast aside as being irrelevant. She was certainly an amiable creature and one who was patient enough to listen to his words despite the lilt of his accent riddling them. The gods only knew how long it had taken him to master the Kawani language, had a bear from his travels not been so patient he might have stuggled to converse beyond broken common tongue.

...Not very dignified.

Still, when she had ceased in her musings and her giggle drifted quietly through the airs to tease across his ears he did provide her with his full attention again. "Amorette," he dwelled on this for a few moments before his lips once again creased into a smile. "Little Love..." he translated after a few moments, indicating that he was most definitely not from these regions and was decidedly more well travelled than most. "Your parents must have regarded you with much fondness," he offered with a hint of finality on the subject.

"However I shall not apologise further if you deem such things trivial, for I fear we will end up going in circles," he chuckled at the thought. It would not be unlike him to dream of conversations that looped endlessly - he'd done it before and it had been more than once. "Instead, might I enquire as to why one of such beauty would be wandering the meadows at such a time?"

"...It is not safe for once so delicate to be alone."

The mare smiled up at him, even though he had bent his head down for her, he was still much taller. Her face turned into a slightly curious one. How did he know that was the meaning of her name? Her parents had told her what her name had meant but she didn't expect anybody else to know the meaning. It's not like she told anybody... Her father, Zalifur, seemed to pick things up from his slumber. "How'd you know that?" There was something a little strange about this stallion and she wanted to know more.

Heh. Amorette giggled when he said that her parents probably regarded her with fondness. "I think they do but sometimes I'm not totally sure." Zalifur... liked to sleep and their mother wasn't around too much. She didn't mind though, she knew that they loved her no matter what.

"Oh? Um." Amorette was quite the opposite of her father. She only really wandered around during the night. She slept at night but she also wandered at night too. During the day, she usually stuck closer towards home. And then he added his comment about her safety and she giggled softly. Amorette regarded her safety as important but she never actively thought about it. "I like... to wander around at night. And why isn't it safe for me?" She inquired innocently unsure of what he was implying. Someday, her nativity was going to get her in trouble.

"A creature such as I dwells in many places," he replied smoothly. Despite the lilt of his tongue he was easily understood, well aware of the potential misunderstandings that could occur when one wasn't clear. The bear had told him as much as they had trekked towards their destination. The bear had been returning home and fate had brought both together in the sense that they were aiming for the same location. It had been a blessing for the foreign soquili who required a patient teacher to converse with, but also to act as a guide in a world completely unknown to him. Still, he made no secret of his nature and his constant travels...

He had travelled across the globes, trekked endlessly through unusual territories and along the way had encountered many different creatures. He'd been yelled at by German wolves, stalked by French rabbits and pursued by disgruntled Russian polar bears. Really it was evident that he would pick up the language at some point or another even if it happened to be in passing and he was left with only very minor conversational skills. Had she travelled to the extent he had as of late she may have grasped this concept with greater ease.

"Drifting from point to point, one picks up on the language of foreigners and grows accustomed to it," he explained patiently. If he was honest he hadn't expected her to be so startled by the knowledge, though in regards to her respond towards her parents it was not his place to pry further. He suspected they loved her dearly and needed no further confirmation regarding the topic - names were often made with a great deal of consideration for the child itself.

Nevertheless her query regarding her own safety did cause mild alarm - those inthe Kawani truly didn't have a great deal of regard for their own safety. The bear had warned him and he hadn't understood, but with the naivity expressed in this mare's petite form he finally grasped it. Kalona, Skinwalker, Demon and predator alike stalked these lands in search of the vulnerable... While Kalona were more inclined to hunt during the day the other three were not adverse to pursuing the weak at night. The locals were not kidding when they spoke of the spirits favouring or punishing soquili at will - without complete understanding for their own safety every soquili truly put themselves at risk.

...For a soquili who had been raised with defence in mind, this was truly difficult to fathom.

"Though I do not revel in terrifying those I encounter, I feel compelled to warn them so they do not find themselves in dire straights at a later date..." he began at last, his tone more grim than the more wistful one he had used previously. "The night is prime time for those who hunt for food and one so small as yourself would be an ideal target for one who was particularly hungry."

Amorette hadn't wandered very far from her original home and she wasn't interested in going very far. Being adventurous was one thing but Amorette wasn't ready to leave her family completely yet. "What does your name mean?" Again, another innocent inquiry.

Her parents had never taught her such things even though she was aware of them, she didn't understand the gravity of the danger. Kalona, skinwalkers, dark creatures all sounded the same to her and she had never met one ever. So, Amorette would remain unknowing of these things. Then she realized how silly she must have sounded right then. "I'm sorry. I honestly don't know what you are talking of. I know of the dangers but I don't understand why I wouldn't be able to walk around at night." She listened to him explain about her safety but she couldn't understand why he would worry about things like that especially for her.

Amorette paused and thought about what he said; it made sense. They had to eat something and she knew she wouldn't prove to be much of a fight. "I see." She stopped herself; her usually happy expression changing into a frown. "I liked your other voice tone more..." He had reminded her of the realities of the events going on around her. It made her somewhat sad to think of.

"It is the name of a weapon," Azzinoth replied in a nonchalant manner. His mother had graced him with the name on birth for he had been born with a purpose. His duty was to guard the shrine of the malevolent spirit and when the time came he was to rescue those who sought to purge themselves of it's influence. The Shinto priests that often attended the shrines had graced him with their care, tending to his mane and coat. Upon his leg they'd even strapped his warglaive - a symbol of his destiny though they nor him could ever converse fully or on level grounds. It was unfortunate as he had spent many of his years within their company but at least they seemed to have a special bond to communicate through. His name though? It's meaning was unimportant as most merely drifted passed him and referred to him as 'Protector'.

...It was trivial, really.

Nevertheless, her change in demeanour had not gone unnoticed and her apparent distress was far from appealing. As he had said before it was not his intention to disturb and as such, he felt that twinge of guilt. His expression clouded and with a soft sigh he bridged the gap between himself and Amorette to provide her with a gentle nudge of encouragement. Frankly, he preferred his other 'voice' more as well - but any soquili would generally prefer the more wistful tone to that of one with grim purpose.

"Let us hope that you are not subject to such a fate then," he moved along briskly and no sooner had he changed the subject than his tone became light and airy once again. "Mmm...after all in a world of dreams such creatures do not exist anyway," he mused quietly, unaware of how out of 'sorts' his words might have been. After all, this world was a dream to him and Amorette a mere fantasy - that being said...since she was a phantasm of his dreams she was a damsel and he was permitted to worry about her health... it was only fitting of a heroic knight!

"You will sing for me again!" He announced suddenly and flashed a smile, again it was one that didn't meet his eyes but lifted his lips to such a point that the 'fangs' were revealed. Ah yes, he was far from a 'pure' unicorn and while his mutated blood was hidden well there were hints of it here and there. "My one request this evening - to hear you serenade me with the song I interrupted, yes?"

A weapon? That meaning didn't sound very appealing but the more she thought about it, the more fitting it became. Every mother wanted her son to be strong and powerful. Amorette wondered if his parents had named him so for a reason... In the back of her thoughts, she knew that everything happened for a reason but if you thought about life that way, you'd be going in circles forever. Even though Amorette was slightly unaware of many things, she was wise and observant. That helped her get out of troubles and probably was the only thing keeping her alive.

She was surprised to see him so close to her; she had grown up in a world where physical affection was unheard of. "World of dreams?" Amorette perked up from her slight digression from happiness. Some of the things Azzinoth said confused her and caused her to think about what he was talking about. All in all, tonight was turning out to be a very strange night.

"Yes, let us hope that I don't get into trouble like that..." Her voice drifted off but she was happy to hear that his happier tone returned. She giggled as he changed the subject but she did happen to notice his fangs. If.... Amorette had seen this stallion from a difference like this, she might not have been as happy to approach him. But, he was nice, she had nothing to worry about. "Well, I was only humming. I don't know if I want to grace you with my less than perfect singing." She spoke modestly knowing that she was hardly good at singing.
PostPosted: Sun Jan 25, 2009 1:57 pm

He...had never actually known about his father until recently, nor had his mother been a constant in his life. She had bore a child, named him and then left him in the care of humans. Azzinoth had never completely grasped the reasoning behind it but he had found out from the forest creatures around the shrine that he was named after a weapon. She had blessed him and given him the duty to protect, it was a fitting name. In a manner of speaking he suspected that his mother would not have aspired for him to be 'powerful' but she probably wanted him to possess the strength necessary (in all it's forms) to succeed.

Honestly the stallion hadn't done that badly - he had aided his father and his great nephew to the best of his ability. Kiyoshi and Esper both had their own lives to lead and purpose in the world now, Azzinoth was not the same. Instead he had been destined to return home to the Orient following these successes but his brother had warned him that too much time in the Kawani would corrupt him. Azzinoth wasn't aware of what this meant yet but in time Azumoth had informed him that he would become aware of exactly what the term 'meddling spirits' meant.

It wasn't through ignorance that he ignored her question though, it had merely slipped his mind in favour of the better topic of conversation. Song and dance had always been of interest to him, he wasn't terribly good at either but he had never been adverse to watching the herds and their members dance. Nor had he ever declined the opportunity to watch the humans while they celebrated. In fact on more than one occasion he had winced at the tone deafness of certain humans but it was the joy expressed throughout these events that he found addictive.

"You do not have to be a good singer to touch the heart of a willing audience," he pointed out gently, his ears flicking lightly against the gentle breeze. He blinked once, the glow about his eyes extinguished for a few moments and then it returned. "I would be honoured if you would grant me the opportunity to listen, though if you would rather not then I will respect your wishes..."

It seems that the two of them didn't have parents that stuck around but it seems that both of them turned out alright. Amorette was a happy soul and what more could you ask. Though, she hadn't done anything absolutely remarkable but she hasn't reached her full potential yet... She actually had never met a two-legger; she had seen them from a distance but never formally met one. They were... strange creatures with strange habits but Amorette didn't mind.

She loved singing and Amorette put her heart and soul when she sang. This mare spent her time singing when she could and she did dance. But those skills she preferred the public not see.

"Well, if you would like me to..." Her good nature kicked in and she began to hum some soft notes. Amorette closed her eyes and continued to sing the song softly. The tune was something to the same effects of Clair De Lune and it was something like a gentle lullaby. Her singing made her seem even more ethereal and unreal.

Everything was perfect when she was in her own world. She had no cares or worries when she sang. All she had to do was sing.

Hardly anybody knew about her singing ability because she hardly showed anybody. It's not like anybody had asked her about it either; Amorette didn't have too many close friends. Regardless, Amorette was glad that he had requested her to sing.
