Riley had had to take a few deep breaths before finally entering the the automatic doors of the large hospital. After going through the process of waiting to talk to someone, locating Brodi's room and finding her way to it, she stood outside the closed door, staring at it bleakly.

It had taken her a few days to even work up the nerve to come. She hated hospitals, after her long stay in one last time, she had developed a slight phobia of them. And not just because she herself had been there, but because of what she had seen. Riley had taken to spending time in the Children's ward in her hospital, and it still haunted her to think about the sick kids.

In on hand, she held a large house shaped box by it's handles. She thought it might seem childish, but she had found a Create-A-Teddy and had made a cute little black bear for Brodi. It wore a black and white striped tie, pinstripe pants, a pair of Van's-like shoes and one hand held a flower plushie that said "Get Well Soon" and the other hand she had actually found a tiny set of drumsticks.

Finally, she pushed the door open and walked in, quietly, in case he was asleep.

"I don't want any more meds." came his horse voice. He sat in the white hospital bed, his head turned to the side, looking out the large windows that lined the back of the room. He was sick and tired of all the medication they were giving him for the pain. Morphine for his chest, some antibiotics for his wound, and who knows what else was coming through the IV's stuck in his hand.

He tried to think back on what happened at the concert, but everything about that night was a little fuzzy. All he could think of was the gun shots and the reeling pain that radiated through his chest.

Softly, Riley set the box down and snuck up on the other side of Brodi's gaze. He seemed to be quite occupied by the window, so she decided to take the opportunity.

She lightly put her hands over his eyes (which was a little akward, as she was beside him, not behind him).

"Guess who?" she said. "And I didn't bring any meds with me, either."

A smile quickly came to his face when he heard her voice, "Riley." He slowly reached his arm over and took her hand off of his eyes. "It's good to see you here." He said as he laughed lightly, coughing a little.

"How have you been?" He asked as he placed his fist over his mouth to cover his cough.

Riley waited until he was done coughing, bent down and gave Brodi a kiss on the forhead, after brushing his black hair away. She couldn't help but chuckle.

"I've been fine. A little worried, but that's all." She remembered when she had been in the hospital, the last thing she had wanted was more pity and sympathy, but she was now finding it was hard to be anything but.

"The doctors said you mostly slept through the first day. That's good, right? Probably got the worst of it out of the way."

She crossed the room to pull a chair and the box next to the bed. As she sat down, she sighed a little. "How are you feeling now?"

"I guess." He said as he cleared his through and tried to sit up, wincing a little as he lifted his chest. He had the nurse bring in some more pillows and he used them to lean up against, breathing heavily.

"I've been better." He smiled lightly, "It doesn't hurt as much though." He smiled at her warmly, reaching out for her hand, "Thanks for coming, it means a lot."

She still felt a little jittery at being in a hospital, and jumped a little when he touched her hand, as if he had shocked her.

"It's no problem," she replied. "Has anyone else been by? Any reporters yet? There are still a ton outside."

Riley had had to struggle through the crowds just to get in.

He shook his head, "Sadly no. I haven't seen anyone. The nurses won't let any reporters in last I heard." He looked over to the door.

"Have you heard anything about Zip?" He asked, coughing a little, "I feel bad for what happened to him, hope he's alright."

"That's good. It'd be terrible if the first public pictures of you were laid up in a hospital bed."

"I heard that he was doing alright. It sounded like the blow to his head did more than the shot." Riley frowned deeply. "And they don't know anything about the person who did it either."

That was the worst part, she though. With such a high profile event, how could someone like that have possibley gotten IN?!?

I'm glad he's okay." He said softly. "It looked like he was hurt a lot more than that" He looked back over to Riley and smiled, "How about you? Are you alright?" He said as he rubbed her hand lightly with his thumb. "You seem a little anxious."

He was worried that the night at the dinner party had caused a large amount of mental stress, seeing both Zip and him shot. He knew if he was in her shoes he'd blame himself. He wondered if she felt the same.

"I'm-" she stopped, before saying that she was fine again. It wasn't exactly a lie, she was just fine, but for some reason, she didn't want to kep Brodi in the dark. "I dunno, It's just weird, I guess. Why did the person shoot who they did? It doesn't make anysense. And, I mean, I was the only one at our table that didn't..."

"I don't like hospitals, either. I spent alot of time in one when I was younger." Unconciously, she rubbed her leg.

"But I don't see any connection between all the people that..." she didn't want to say "shot", it just seemed to stick on her tongue.

"I'm sorry Riley, you don't have to stay if you don't want to." He said as he held her hand, "Besides, the doctors said I should be out of here by the end of the week." He smiled before he violently coughed, a small amount of blood falling from the side of his mouth.

He reached his other hand over and wiped the blood off, "Lets say that didn't happen." he said as he smiled. He wanted to be out of that hospital as soon as he could, and coughing up blood wouldn't get him out of there any faster.

She couldn't help but shudder a little when she caught sight of some blood, but turned her head politely and pretended she hadn't seen it and waited until he was done coughing to turn back.

"No, it's alright. Besides, I don't want to leave you here by yourself. No one should have to be alone in a hospital."

She smiled at him and settled into the chair.

He laughed lightly, and gave her a wide goofy smile. "Thanks Riley." He said as he looked around the room, trying to figure out what to say next. He knew what he wanted to ask, but wasn't sure if it was the place or time. Or even how to ask.

"Hey Riley..." he started, looking back over to her, "After I get out of this mess, you want to... grab a cup of coffee or something?" He had never been good at asking someone out.

Riley frowned and looked past the bed Brodi lay in. "Oh, I don't...drink coffee. Could stunt my growth."
