"What have we here?" Mazerine tugged on a clam shell that was wedged tight in the rocky crevice. “Oh common!” With all her might she tugged one last time. She flew backwards letting out a sigh of relief as the clam broke away. Sticking her claw into the shell she pried it open. “Yuss! A pearl!” she swam around in a small circle. All day she was out searching for one for a necklace she was making. She never had many yet but almost enough to complete it.
Excited, she swam quickly to the beach and over to the small stream that ran into the ocean. Dumping the contents in her small kelp woven bag she began to clean them in the fresh water.

 Just under the surface of the water, a trio of eyes watched unblinkingly. What was this? He thought he'd be alone out here; that no one would wander out this far to disturb his quiet solitude.
So much for that.
And yet, he paused without retreating from the area. At least she didn't seem to be fuzzy like most Winis. She seemed rather at home in the water, from what he could tell. That made her at least semi-acceptable in the koi Wini's eyes. Tolerable.
Still, he wasn't one to go out of his way to talk to others. Not really. Not yet. Even if he'd found a couple of okay Winis out there, for the most part they tended to be generally irritating at best.
Coming to a decision, he shrugged and rose a bit in the water. He wouldn't go out of his way to talk to her now either. But he wouldn't hide like a child. If she wanted to talk or something, fine. He'd just be paddling about over here...in plain sight...

Mazerine hummed away to herself as she polished and picked dirt and crud out of the shells. She couldn't decide what one she liked the most to add to her project; the blue wide mussel shell, the pink swirly one, then there were all these tiny periwinkles. "Hmm...this is going to be tough." She spoke out loud to no one, "They are all so pretty!"
She reached into her bag and laid out a small piece of cloth next to her. She kept it in a water proof section that her bonded had specially designed. She then placed the shells neatly in a row to dry in the sun.
Turning to quick she knocked the pink swirly one into the stream. “Oh no!” She reached around but couldn’t grab it. Disappointed she flopped down and noticed someone in the river a little ways up. “Oh! Hello there!” She smiled in its direction. She was unsure if it was a male or female.

Aukai watched in curiosity for a while, trying to determine what in the world the other Wini was doing. After a while, he gave up. Who knew what women thought anyway. No man he was aware of.
Then, there was a splash and without thinking, the koi slipped through the water without hearing the greeting. The small pinkish shell was easy enough to track in the clear stream waters. His eyes locked on the object, Aukai noted that while the current was slowly carrying it downstream...it wasn't nearly quick enough to keep it from him. So, smirking, the koi Wini closed in on the shell, catching it and pushing it towards the surface with his head. As soon as he reached the surface, he spun and lifted the shell with the tip of his tail, lightly flipping it onto the shore.
"Might wanna' keep a good hold on that this time. Or keep it away from the water. The river gets hungry at times."

“Oh! My shell, thank you!” She hugged it close and carefully moved it inland more. “I was so sad I dropped it.” She pouted. “I don’t mind washing them in the fresh water but swimming in it…” She shuttered. “…I get flaky.” She whispered and blushed. “That’s why I didn’t jump in.” She never noticed him before not saying he wasn’t around though, Mazerine just kept her attention on what she has been doing. “SooOoo do you live around here?” She took out a piece of heavy thread and began to thread the pearls by wrapping a small transparent thread around each one first.

Flaky? That's...odd. Why would water make one feel 'flaky?' The thought was bewildering, but Aukai would just have to ponder that one over later. He waded closer to the shore, staying in the water, but getting close enough that he could lie in the shallows to speak.
"No prob. Really." This socializing thing was still new for the koi, but...he was trying. Even if he wasn't sure why. "But no, I don't live here. Unfortunately. It'd be nice to live here, since it's so peaceful and quiet. I just visit when I need time to myself or some silence. Too many noisy lunatics back where I live."
The whole time that he'd been talking, Aukai's eyes had been studying the strange movements of the other wini's paws. "Err...if you don't mind my asking," he started, head tilting slightly. "Just what is it that you're doing there?"

Mazerine giggled. "Oh I know how loud homes can be." She rolled her eyes and went back to her project.
"Oh how rude I am! I'm weaving a small net for each of these pearls...so then I can string them onto the necklace I'm making." She walked over closer to show him. "See?" She only had a few more to do then she would start stringing them. "I'm so occupied with this I am forgetting my manners! I'm Mazerine by the way." She extended her empty paw towards him.

He blinked at the offered paw for a moment...then awkwardly took it with one of his. "Aukai." It was a moment before he hurriedly pulled his paw away and resumed staring at what she was doing with seeming fascination. "So...what's that for anyway? The necklace, I mean. Anything special? Or just 'cause?"
Not that he'd ever been all that interested in jewelry itself, but he was curious as to the reasons behind such adornments. Some seemed to be just to 'look pretty' while others held deeper meanings for the wearer. Though usually that was because of the individual that gifted the piece to the wearer...most times, right?

She couldn't restrain herself. She thought it was so cute when he quickly retreated. Boys. She grinned and rotated the shell in her paw. She felt so giddy. "Oh my bonded use to make all kinds of jewelry for her friends; so I took up the hobby myself." She smiled sweetly then sorta frowned. "I actually have a nice few pieces made...just well...no friends to give them to." She fumbled over what she was doing. "I think I'll keep this one though...it has good memories attached to it." She finished. "Oh would you mind?" Mazerine motioned she needed help putting it on. She was never good at putting jewelry on when she couldn't see.

"Oh, that's...a shame," Aukai muttered, scratching his head awkwardly. That was what one should say in a situation like this, right? He wasn't sure. This whole 'friends' thing was still rather new to the solitary koi.
When she asked if he'd mind, he actually paused and blinked at her in confusion for a moment. Mind what? Oh wait, the necklace...she was done with it. Apparently she wanted Aukai to put it on her neck. "Err, no...I don't mind." This could prove interesting.
Stepping forward, Aukai took the finished piece in his paws, rocking back on his haunches for balance. He carefully, almost delicately, looped the piece around her neck before eying the clasp in his paws. It took some effort, as well as much frowning and face-making at the device, but finally Aukai managed to get the jewelry fastened and stepped back to look. "That okay?" he asked, hoping it wasn't too tight...or too loose. He really had no experience with this sort of thing.

Mazerine was estatic when he decided to lend a hand er paw. She desperately tried to stay still as much as possible but he was tickling her off and on with his fumbling. "Eeeeee." She giggled.
"Oh I'm sorry I'm just making this," She stopped mid sentence as he announced he was done, "difficult....Eeeeeee thank you!!!" She hopped up and ran over to the pool of water to have a look. She smiled bring when she seen it.
She practically landed on him as she ran back over. "Oh Aukai what do you think?" Her eyes were huge, she was so happy.

Well, she certainly seemed happy with the result. Aukai assumed he must not have screwed up in putting it on her at least. Considering how clueless he was with this sort of thing, that was saying something. Accomplishment made for the day.
Oh crap! He tensed, mentally already seeing the bounding sea slug bowling him over...but luckily that situation didn't play out in the real world. Still, he probably looked funny for a moment when he seemed to cringe in preparation for impact before forcing himself to relax.
"Err...you're welcome. No problem, really." He blinked, looking at her for a moment, then the necklace. "I uh...it's...very nice. Very pretty?" Yes, it sounded more like a question than an answer, but, it did look fairly nice, even if he wasn't one for dressing up or anything. It looked good on her. Very pretty.
The necklace, he meant. Yeah.
