That's over a half million dollars, sans taxes, compliance and rego(it it is to be a special import here in Oz) M8 I could get a f*cking, well, one of THESE bastards. Or even maybe THIS monster Ex-Bennetton F1 with the bloody DFR motor in it. Eh, you could get THIS thing for that money and still race a season or two before on-selling for the price of the bloody Lexus. You might not ever get to the Maccas without anti-stall enabled, but you'd be a damn sight quicker around the local track. pirate

It definately looks good but who's gonna pay 340k for a Toyota? Not to trivialize them but thats a bit too much. But I do have to admit it looks alot better than California or Aston.

You think that thing looks better than a California or a DBS?! No way in Hell! Just my opinion, but the thing looks good from the side, but from the front ( http://jalopnik.com/photogallery/lfa/793617 ) and rear ( http://jalopnik.com/photogallery/lfa/2054921 ) it looks incredibly gaudy and silly. The California and the DBS are elegant and classy looking from all angles.

Well I like the idea of the exaggerated futuristic car design. The DBS and California or good looking cars, no doubt about it, they just aren't as eye catching as a LF-A would be, despite how good looking or ugly it is. If someone saw one on the streets, I'm pretty sure they'd take a good long look at it.

Dunno about the looks m8, cars generally get designed to look ahead of their time if they are flagship models. It isn't the looks that'll kill the LFA, its the bloody price. The aftermarket will take care of that pisser front bar in short order.

Gents, you're talking about the California... Just to let you know, for $200,000 you can pick up a damned 599 GTB Fiorano, THE fastest Ferrari road car ever made.  That looks much better than the Lexus, and will probably spank it.

By the way, not to beat a dead horse, but the LF-A is now available and it's still more expensive than a 599 and still much slower.

I think that the LF-A is an amazing car all around, considering the engineering feats all around. The only thing is the price. So really, I think some respect is due to it. It's a genuinely good performance car, it's just insanely priced. And, IMO, the engine sounds great, I love those "F1 style" engine whines. The only thing more that sounds more like an F1 car than this is the Carrera GT. Which practically does have an F1 engine in it.

Not to necro this topic or anything, but apparantly to "buy" one is actually more tedious then getting a Ferrari Enzo. Actually scratch that, you CANT even own it!! Toyota is only going to LEASE them for 2 years each! You can NEVER own it. Not only that, but they want a list of places you frequent which is everywhere from what roads you drive on, what restaurants you eat at, where you shop for clothes and for that matter what your neighbourhood is like. They want it "Only to be seen at the right places" and such, it's ridiculous. For the price you would pay for the silly Lexus you can acquire a Lamborghini or a Koenigsegg(SP?) CCX for the same price and actually GO fast! rofl

I'll bet you they put all that garbage in so as to keep this "wunderkund" of theirs away from machinery that's actually quick; there are these itty bitty things out there called "Australian Sports Sedans" or even the old Trans-Tasman cars, built for less than a fifth of that thing, that would literally tear it to bits. 400kW and still at the 1.5-ton mark, I'd go with 1.1 ton and 350kW, with the right gearing its not coming close.

I could only wish I could get my hands on one of those! But given how exclusive the lexus is, I'm willing to bet they only want it falling into the hands of people who don't know a thing about racing AKA Rappers, teen pop music stars, flavor of the week up and rising boy band members... those sorts of people. Because like you said, all it would take is someone who knew anything about racing or driving to step up and say "OH this thing is junk." to wreck Toyota's claim. It's the fact it's so exclusive that makes anyone want it, other then that it's just a joke on four wheels.
