In a thoughtful mood more then a playful one, Alister quietly tucked his slingshot into his loincloth, gliding aimlessly over the cliffs and towards the forest around them. It offered a nice solitude for the most part, if one hid in the right spot at the right time. Of course it was hard to tell when the right time was, really, since people and gargoyles alike weren't exactly on set schedules.

Alister found a tree branch low enough to see but not low enough to be seen, settling on the branch. He relaxed back against the trunk of the tree, letting his eyes slide closed. It didn't dawn on him the irony of how he was sitting. Practically a sitting duck just waiting to be hit with Fate.

Or fall out of the tree, if he fell asleep. Either or.

User ImageThe moon was glorious and full as Dwenna set out into the night, deep amethyst wings spread to fully fide the swirling air currents. Oddly enough, she found herself rather listless this night, neither in the mood for her usual schematics or to hunt. The game was just far too easy for her taste tonight, but she figured she'd be able to pull at least a few choice bits if she really needed to before long.

It seemed, perhaps, for another, that the time was right. Debris caught up in its own tiny whirlwind as she landed gracefully, knees bent ever so slightly for the briefest of moments as Dwenna touched ground, pulling her wings close about her dove gray body like a leathery cloak. A pale, clawed hand ran through her short, disheveled hair and steel gray eyes glittered with curiosity as she looked around her.

Alone, it seemed, for now. Others would come; they always did. And, in her mind, they would fall. but that time was farther off. She needed something to amuse herself now. Sitting around and twiddling her thumbs had never been much of a pastime.

The intruding gargoyle barely stirred Alister who had, in fact, fallen into a light nap. Unfortunately, unless stone, Alister was a gargoyle who near-constantly moved in some way; tugging his earring, flexing his fingers, or bouncing. This was no different when he fell into his little naps. A few moments after the female landed, Alister began to roll on his branch. Before he could stop himself, he was falling straight for the ground.

His wings snapped out in a feeble attempt to catch some strand of wind, to no avail. He rolled to his back on instinct, and fell hard, groaning. "Alright," he groaned, starting to sit up carefully. He flexed his wings once he was sitting up, to be sure they weren't broken or damaged. "No more tree naps for me, thanks." He rubbed his eyes, then looked around, squinting a little. He blinked when he saw the other gargoyle, sitting back.

"Hi there." He grinned roguishly, not getting up just yet. Why bother, after all?

A night that had once seemed peaceful was swiftly interrupted, much to Dwenna's displeasure. There was a snapping sound from somewhere behind her, echoing out into the otherwise gentle night, and a rather impressive series of crashes. Though her instincts screamed 'human' (because there was simply no way any gargoyle would admit to that sort of ruckus), she spun like a predator, claws bared, wings opened and ready to strike. But what she saw was, indeed, a clansman, acting as though he'd fully intended to full and, thus, startle her (which she highly disliked) from the very beginning.

And...was he talking to the tree? Dwenna's brows shot up at his rather roughish smile and general care-less demeanor. Well now...

"I suppose so." She eased from her offensive state, now someone bemused as she eyed the gray-green gargoyle. "Do you have these fits often, or is this merely for show?" She couldn't help it, the corner of her mouth twitched ever so slightly at the situation. So long as it wasn't her on the ground like that.

He grinned a little wider when he saw the twitch that might've been the beginning of a smile. It always did him good, making other people smile. Even if it was at him instead of with him. "Yes. Every night." He nodded solemnly. "With or without an audience. Although without an audience, I'm likely to seem a bit off, don't you think?" He started getting up, grunting a little at the strain of rising after falling out of his perch. He rose steadily for someone who'd fallen, though. After all, he did fall out of trees a lot. Wonder what that says about my balance, eh? He thought to himself, brushing himself off.

"I'm Alister." He smiled at her, folding his wings around him comfortably.

He had a sense of humor, she had to give him that, and he could stand a little abuse at his own expense. Not bad. Even better, he was able to rise without the offer of help, though she'd thought to give one. It meant he was strong enough to stand on his own; a formidable companion, perhaps. Someone worth watching, at least. That, or he'd done it enough times that he simply did it by instinct.

"Without an audience, though, who's to know it's off but you and the trees?" she asked as she swung an arm out to indicate their rooted watchers. She couldn't help the slight indication of a smile, nor thee way it grew into a small, easy grin. Laughter may be a bit harder to provoke, but for all purposes, she seemed in a good enough mood. For now, anyway.

"The name's Dwenna." She nodded as Alister closed his wings about him, sending a brief gust her way as he did so. It was the sort of face that would look odd, she decided, without a smile or a spark of mirth.

"So, other than keeping the trees company, what brings you out here tonight?" A little curiosity never hurt, after all. Or was it that a little curiosity only hurt a little?

"There's always an audience," Alister said cryptically, grinning a little. "Even if you don't always see them. Could be the tiniest bug or the sneakiest fox, but they're still an audience." He smiled a little, crossing his arms and leaning against the very tree he'd fallen out of moments ago. "That's a pretty name, Dwenna." He mused, smiling still. It really was a force of habit. Very few things could stun Alister out of a smile, no matter how small it was.

Her next question made him blink, and it took him a minute to formulate an answer to that. "Nothing," he said finally, shrugging one shoulder. "Nothing nothing, tra la la. I came out here to think, but I ended up falling asleep. Wonder what that says about what I was thinking about, hm?" He grinned. "What of you, Dwenna? What brings you out into seclusion?"

Amusing as he was, Dwenna was also finding Alister to be rather observant in his own way. At the mention of an unseen audience, however, her eyes flew to the skies, starless and deep velvet. There was no sight of any of their other clansmen, but she'd intended it that way. Alister had become something of a complication. Still, she managed to open the smile a bit, revealing a flash of white teeth and just a bit of jauntiness that seemed to say, "I know" - even if she didn't.

"Thank you," she offered appreciatively. Stroking another gargoyle's ego was usually a good thing, especially when it came to Dwenna. Perhaps a bit dangerously so, if you were to inflate and pop it in the same breath, but she usually kept herself under some sort of control. Usually.

"Your own seems rather fitting," she decided approvingly. Masculine? Sure. Graceful? Maybe not so much. She shook her head at his bantering antics. "Quite a bit, I think, if you decided to fall asleep in a tree." Her gaze wandered to the forest around them momentarily, as though preoccupied, toes curling slightly in the moist earth, and offered a slight shrug.

"A moment of peace before duty calls," she admitted. Hunting was sounding like a good idea in the back of her mind. If nothing else, if he was bored or curious, she could use it as an excuse to lure him out and away from her original objective.

He followed her gaze upwards briefly, before deeming it uninteresting enough to look back at Dwenna. He smirked a little at her smile, reaching up to scratch at his eyebrow. It was a habit, moving his hands around. Even with his arms crossed again, his fingers tapped lightly on his arm. "You're welcome," he said with a small grin, shrugging at her comment on his name. Was it really fitting to name a gargoyle Man's Protector and then have him fling rocks at him?

Nonetheless, the name was his, so he was inclined to like it well enough. He nodded to her explanation, however vague it was. "Duty, eh? Are you a hunter then?" He asked, uncrossing his arms to look around. As far as he knew, there were no animals within their immediate range, but what was an animal if not a skilled survivor.

Most of the normal pleasantries involved in a greeting had been exchanged, Dwenna tilting her head to the side at Alister's uncommitted shrug. That name was starting to sound awfully familiar. She was almost certain she'd heard it bellowed through the mountains on occasion. She shook her head and brought her thoughts back to the present as his question.

"Among other things, yes." She nodded. "The animals here are quick to catch on, though, so I usually find somewhere else if I'm bringing a beast in." It was the nature of things, after all, to hunt or be hunted, and you always knew which one you were. Only once had Dwenna ever thought herself hunted, and she had no intention of experiencing that again. Ever.

It was then she noticed the bottom of his slingshot protruding from the top of his loincloth, though she merely raised her brow again. It was easy to see her amusement as her pride took a backseat. She was beginning to think she knew where she'd heard his name before.

"Yourself?" she made a small gesture to the slingshot as she spoke. "Though I highly doubt it's for hunting."

He nodded a little to her comment, smiling. "Probably a good idea. Must be the humans in the area makin' them smart about where to hide," Alister mused, shrugging again. Hunting had never interested him. It was something his parents had done, but he had no desire to go after some small animal for the sake of food. Sure, he'd eat it, but he liked to pretend he didn't know where it came from. It made it easier to forget that some gargoyle killed it. Alister had the skill for hunting, but nothing to move him to do so. When he did hunt, it was of a non-lethal variety (usually), and meant that he quickly went from Hunter to Hunted if he was spotted. That was the fun of his pranks, though, getting to both hunt and be hunted. He's an odd gargoyle, what can I say?

Alister blinked when she gestured to the slingshot he had tucked away, and laughed a little. "I hunt a different variety of prey," he said, taking the slingshot out and tossing it from hand to hand. "It's a very cherished gift of mine. Not too good for falling deer or anything, but it's great for pinging a person or two." His eyes gleamed at the very mention of shooting pebbles at someone. Gargoyle or human, he wasn't fussy. Just someone for him to snicker at. It was in good nature, he never intended real harm upon his fellow gargoyle or man, but it was an instinct to him now, picking out the weakest or stupidest to prank. It was something he enjoyed.

"Maybe so," Dwenna agreed with a slight nod. She herself didn't see much in the way of hunting other than necessity. They needed to eat, and unlike humans, they didn't waste what they hunted, and it certainly wasn't for sport. If Dwenna wanted a challenge (and she loved a challenge), then she'd go looking for a heavily dexterous gargoyle or something. She preferred a swift death for the creatures who would fall as her victims, but had this horrible tendency to hunt without weapons unless she had to. Some called her barbaric, others foolish, and the truly honest ones, stupid. You just never knew what sort of hostilities you'd run into when hunting.

She noticed the way his eyes lit up at the idea of slinging someone with a slew of pebbles, and couldn't help the small, wry chuckle that escaped her lips. Now she knew why she'd heard the name from before.

"I see. Remind me to keep you in sight in some way whenever possible."
