User Image And yet another cold night...
A month has passed since the time, when he met the demon in the garden. He now knew how to read his name. Abel. That's how it sounded. The boy smiled to himself, and repeated it a few times out loud. It was...different from the names he was used to, but still pleasant to hear, unlike some of the names he heard in LOTUS...
...and before he noticed, his legs once again brought him to this unusual garden...
For the first week after their meeting, Hyo was visiting it every night, in hopes of once again meeting the young man, and thanking him properly. But after a full week has passed with no luck, Hyo had given up hope for doing it.
And yet, his legs were bringing him there pretty often...
He flawlessly arrived in the center garden - after so many nights, he could've found his way through this place with closed eyes - and looked around. Yes, creepy like always... Like a place where demons would come to enjoy their own company...

He sat on the cold bench, and sighed quietly. Ofcourse he's not going to be here, so why is he waiting...?
And yet...
He sighed once more, and folded his hands neatly on his knees. He wasn't sleepy, and it's not like he had anything better to do...
...so let's just watch the stars...
Alone.

Here, again. She was here again. She had come every day for a week since their first meeting. Then she had stopped coming regularly. Appearing whenever she did. He had done the same, though he came a little earlier than she and stayed hidden watching her until she left. Usually he spent the time gazing at her and sketching pictures of her. Today however he planned to do something different. He was going to approach her and his decision was made only more solid after he had spotted her repeated his name. That and she looked lonely, on a night like this, company was preferred.

Today was a chilly night, his breath forming a cloud behind him. Even though the jacket he was wearing he cold feel the nipping of an occasional wind. He was wearing the new clothes that his sister had sent they were much warmer and simply prevented him from looking like something straight out of a textbook. Shoving his fingers deeper into his jacket pocket he stepped out of the stairs leading towards the inner garden inside the labyrinth.

She was straight ahead of him, sitting on the same bench as last time. The bench was the same one from their first visit also, when he had awoken with his head on her lap. Like then, she was wearing her clothing made of silk. She would catch a cold if she continued to sit there like that. When he was standing right behind her, he began unbuttoning the brass buttons to his jacket. He had warmed it up for her.

Draping it gently on her shoulders he took a seat on the bench beside her. A month since their first meeting, he had studied hard to learn some English. Yet it was still lacking. He was studying using a dictionary. It wasn't exactly every teacher's preferred method of teaching English. Yet his vocabulary was quite large. The only problem was that he could only recognize them in their written form, not their spoken names. A flaw in his 'Teaching Yourself English' program. If she could read and write, he had no problem.

Placing his hands on his knees, he opened his mouth. It wasn't a phrase of greeting yet a song. He had practiced hard for this moment. Practicing so that he wouldn't freeze up in front of her. It was a fitting song for this moment. The setting, it was almost creepy.

Dans un bois solitaire et sombre
Je me promenais l'autr' jour,
Un enfant y dormait à l'ombre,
C'était le redoutable Amour.

J'approche, sa beauté me flatte,
Mais je devais m'en défier;
Il avait les traits d'une ingrate,
Que j'avais juré d'oublier.

Il avait la bouche vermeille,
Le teint aussi frais que le sien,
Un soupir m'échappe, il s'éveille;

As he finished the song, the last word hung in the air before finally disappearing. When finished he turned toward her and smiled.

User Image The sudden warmth on his back had taken him by surprise.
Hyo turned around quickly, and before he knew it, his lips formed a smile.
Abel.
He came.
He was sitting next to him right now.

Hyo enjoyed the warmth, tugging the clothing a bit more on himself. and then, he heard a song.
Abel was singing.
After their first meeting, he had thought that Abel was mute. But apparently, he wasn't. Because he was singing for him now.
...for him..?
Do you see someone else here..?

The song was beautiful, even though its words didn't mean a thing to Hyo. They didn't sound like engrish, the intonation, the mixing of sounds was completely different.
He didn't understand a thing.
But it was beautiful nontheless.
When the boy stopped singing, Hyo clapped his hands happily, and smiled at his singer. He'd only wish he knew what he was singing about...
"Hee-ro." He greeted him, after a moment of silence. Please, words, don't betray me now... "Youu seeng much beuutiful, very so. Saank yuu for song." He smiled. It should be okay...shouldn't it..? "And saank yuu for before."

Abel gave off a shy little smile when Hyo applauded at his vocal skills. His singing wasn't on par to that of an elite opera singer but the fact that the girl had enjoyed it made him feel bubbly inside. It was a good warm feeling, almost like whiskey. Not that he liked whiskey. He tried whiskey once five years ago and had never touched any alcoholic drink since then. Disgusting thing, it was like trying to eat dirt. No point to it. It made one commit thoughtless acts that often disgraced or humilated oneself later. He did not need the help of some drink to do that. He did that enough by himself when he was sober. Nevertheless, it still reminded him of whiskey. Maybe rum. He couldn't help but reminisce his first and last drinking experience.

His first day in the army and one of the older men had offered it to him. 'A tribute to entering manhood' he had called it. Thinking nothing of it the young boy had taken the offered cup and done a one shot. The men laughed. He thought it was a good thing. Big mistake. The alcohol burned his throat and made it dry as it dropped into his stomach. Though it did warm up his body considerably, he was left feeling sick the rest of the night. Couple hours later after that drink he had ended up running into the woods to throw up so that no one would spot him and call him a weakling. That morning when he had woken up his tongue felt fuzzy and his head felt like someone had put it inside a drum and was smashing away at it with the sticks.

The laughed to himself momenarily forgetting about his female companion. Looking up he saw Hyo and remembered who was in his company. Taking a moment he tried to think about how to please the girl, it just occurred to him that he had never sang for Juliette since she was four and here he was singing for a woman he had met only once. Their first meeting having been a month ago at that. Something was seriously wrong with him.

Brushing the stray strand of hair out of his eyes he looked up when Hyo spoke. Ah... that language. English really was a pain sometimes... Especially if you didn't know how words were pronounced. Give him a sheet of paper and write a paragraph, Abel could understand that but not spoken words. He really needed to find himself a tutor. Yet searching for a teacher was kind of hard when one didn't speak. Hard to state what you wanted.

Hee-ro. She said. He knew what that meant. He had heard it multiple times throught the compound and since he heard at the beginning of each conversation he knew it was a greeting. Not quite good morning but something like nice to meet you. Maybe hello. Probably hello. But it sounded so different from its French counterpart. He would have to ask someone who spoke both English and French. If this god forsaken compound even had someone like that. Probably not.

She spoke one again and his eyes gazed at her face. He had an excuse to do that right now, she was talking. "Youu seeng much beuutiful, very so. Saank yuu for song." There was a pause and then she continued. "And saank you for before." So many unfamiliar words. Yet the ones he knew where repeated so that was a good thing. You was something his 'father' had covered before. You was refering to himself. So the maiden was addressing him. Then the phrase 'Saank yuu.' sounded vaugely like thank you. He heard that a lot around here too. Didn't take much to figure the meaning of that one, everytime someone did something the first couple of words flying out their mouth was thank you. A lot of this was assuming but she was probably thanking for his performance. His cheeks turned a slight pink color and he gave her a smile.

He was staring at the pocket of his jacket a folded piece of cream paper sticking out. Oh god. Was that what he thought it was? The sketch of his muse from yesterday? Please don't let it drop out.... He wasn't aware of it but his intent staring would get the best of anyone.

User Image ...why is he looking like this...?
And not in his face, but...somewhere below?
Hyo's eyes moved to see what did the boy look at. Was his dress dirty? Or...
But it was just a piece of paper, sticking out of the pocket.
It looked like it was going to fall out any moment. Is it something important? Probably so... Then he'd better give it back to him before something happens to it...
He moved his hand, and gently held the paper, taking it out of the pocket where it resided, and handing it to the demon boy. But when he held it in front instead of on the side...he saw something inside the folded paper.

Curiousity taking best of him, he opened the paper, without really noticing, and...
...and...
...it was his face...
The picture bore incredible resemblance to reality. So much, that Hyo thought that maybe it's his soul, captured inside this piece of paper. Why did this boy do this..? ...did he want to capture him...?

Abel flushed a brilliant scarlet as Hyo took the sketch out of his jacket pocket and opened. He had expected her to compliment him or something similar. Everything but the reaction he was getting now. It scared him a little. She looked shocked borderline scared. Had she never scene a sketch or picture before? Great. Now he was feeling nervous. Her reaction had made him feel uneasy. What if she thought him some sort of stalker? Placing his head between his hands, his elbows rested on his knees. He was giving off a stronger than usual vibe of depression. All because of her reaction. He had thought that everything was going so well...

Letting out a deep sigh Abel stared at the ground. Seeing a stick on the ground he immediately reached for it and began drawing an image of his sister Juliette. It was a subconcious movement. One instilled in him from many many years ago, it helped him fight off the melancholy even if it was just a little bit. A motion he had done for more than ten years. One of many reasons why his drawings looked so life like. Unintentional practice. The image of Juliette bore strong resemblence to that of Abel, her hair was longer than his yet it still had that distinctive ending curl. Her eyes were different yet her lips and nose where almost identical to that of Abel's. What had started as a bunch of cluttered lines on the ground was becoming an intricate image of his sister. He had finished her face and was proceeding to move down to her neck. The sketch carried large ammounts of intricate detail for one that had been drawing with a stick into the hard dirt packed ground.

Falling deep into the image he forgot about Hyo again. Though this time completely. In his mind it was just himself and the image. A state of total concentration that detached him from the rest of the world. It was through this state of zoning out he had managed to surivive his pitiful childhood and the hideous scenes of war. Finishing the last touches on the high collar of Juliette's dress he leaned back to observe the image. It was almost as life like as the sketch Hyo had seen. Yet it was at the same time more simplified.

Oblivious to everything but himself and the ground he erased the image of his sister with his foot. The ground returning to its previous state before Abel had etched an image of his sister into the ground. Yet he wasn't done yet. Using the stick again this time he began to sketch Hyo. The image he was doing now was what he had first seen when he had opened his eyes with his head on her lap. It was indeed Hyo, and yet Abel had taken it a step further. Bringing out her finest traits, her innocent look and demure smile. It was even more impressive than the sketch of her that she had found in his jacket pocket.

His grip on the stick slacked and it fell to the floor with a small whuup noise. Bending down further, closer to the image on the ground he brushed the cheek of the maiden with the tip of his fingertips. It was a movement of adoration and grief. Something he desired but knew that he could not have. Simply because God had willed it so. It seemed God was not willing to part with such a maiden, handing her off to a soiled thing. A broken toy of a man.

User Image Hyo was going to ask the boy to explain this unusually impressive drawing, when he noticed that he doesn't see him anymore.
The boy seemed...depressed? Why? Did he not want him to see that he tried to steal his soul?
Or maybe it was something different... Maybe he...expected a different reaction?
...maybe he thought that Hyo would like it...?
He sincerely hoped that it was the second option. Even though it's just the second time they met, he was already liking this demon boy quite a lot.
And he prayed that it wasn't because the demon had put a spell on him to do so.

But now, the boy wasn't looking at him. He took a stick, and was digging something in the ground.
Digging..? No. He was...drawing.
A face, which Hyo at first thought Abel's, but it wasn't. The differences weren't big, but there were enough of them to make him sure of that.
And he almost yelped when he stepped on the face with his foot, ruining it.
And then...then he started drawing HIM.
With wide eyes, Hyo was observing the ground, as his face was slowly appearing. He...he never looked this...this beautifully. The face was his, but at the same time, he would never...
...he was at loss with words.

And then, to surprise him even more, Abel touched the cheek of the picture. Hyo slowly left out the air, only now realizing that he was holding his breath.
The look on his face... Hyo suddenly felt unbearable sorrow. It was painful to even look at him...
...please, don't look like that...
He had to do something. So this sad demon boy will stop bringing tears to his eyes.
So he did the only thing he could think of. Something that the House maidens were doing to him, when he was still a child. He slowly moved his hands, putting them on the boy's shoulders, and gently, gently moved closer, hugging the boy from the back.
...don't be sad anymore...

He had been cool, the icy drafts nipping at his skin through his shirt. Then suddenly the area around his shoulders became warm and suddenly it spread to his whole back. The warmth drew him out of his shell and back into the garden, an unwanted recall but the male responded to anyways. Opening his eyes slowly for a moment the garden had appeared brilliant under the moonlight; plants, statues and the air itself sparkling gently before returning to normal as he furiously blinked his eyes to make sure what he hadn’t seen was a dream. Then the warmth again… Turning his head slightly to the side he felt at a loss of words when he realized she was hugging him. He wanted to turn and embrace her, let her rest her head on his shoulder as he protected her from the consuming night.

Looking down at his hands, the male fiddled with his thumbs for a short while before placing his left hand on top of her hand. He wanted to see how she would react before he did anything brazen towards her. For all he knew, holding hands with her could be as taboo as throwing her over his shoulder and carrying her off to his bed. Blushing a bit at the thought the male slightly averted his head to keep her from seeing it. Holding her hand in his, Abel tried to warm up her hands. They were cool. She didn’t have any gloves on, on second thought neither did he. Yet he could afford to loose his fingers, not her. He was rubbing his hand against hers in an attempt to warm it up when he noticed a white clump falling from one of the holes cut into the ceiling.

It confused him at first, and then he realized it was snow. It was snowing right now. He was putting her at risk by sitting with her outside. The white balls continued to fall faster until a small round patch had been formed under the hole.

User Image When he felt the man's hand on his own, Hyo almost jumped in surprise. But he didn't move away. Abel still looked so fragile at that moment, and the boy had a feeling that any drastic move would make the demon boy leave him here.

His hand was so warm.
Hyo couldn't force himself to raise his head, and looked at the man's face, so he had no idea just how he reacted to this whole thing...was he too bold? But since he didn't push him away, then it couldn't be too bad, could it?
And he was keeping his hand warm now.
His face unseen, still hidden on the man's back, Hyo smiled softly. No, it was impossible for this man to try to do something bad with his soul. He must've misunderstood.
He wouldn't have anything against continuing to sit close together like this, either.
And then it started to snow. But at this moment in time, Hyo didn't care about it at all.

Abel could feel himself slowly become intoxicated in the gentle floral scent radiating off Hyo. It was delicate and elegant. Just like her, the perfect scent for a perfect lady. Taking slow deep breathes, the male continued to drink in the exotic smell. Different, but good.

Slowly but surely the male let go of the other. Even when he had been in the other’s warm embrace he had felt the sudden cold drafts that had filled the labyrinth. Brushing the strands of hair in his eyes, the male looked up through the circular holes in the ceiling and couldn’t help but laugh the slightest. It was a strange sound, almost like a gentle chime. Rare. He hadn’t laughed since Juliette had been defiled and seduced by that b*****d. The numbness in his heart had been too great for anything earlier, the pain of betrayal. From both a close friend and family member.

The male was pulled away from his thoughts as a sudden wind filled the chamber, dropping the temperature by several degrees. Without much thought the male pulled the other into his arms with the intent of protecting them from the cold. Enveloping the other with his body, he immersed himself again in her warmth and smell. The wind persisted and eventually when it had seemed like an eternity it finally died away. Reluctantly, Abel did just the same. He wanted to hold her forever yet just as the wind had died down; he also had to release her.
