His parents had said that adulthood would be the greatest time in Lanzo's life. Parties and fun would come from all over and acquaintances would be flocking to meet him and his siblings. But for the moment, he was BORED. The days were short and cold, and his attitude was responding rather similarly. He had heard that things would get better when the spring arrived, but he wasn't holding his breath. He was a winter baby so he'd only known life as it currently was.

He was glad to notice that the snowing had stopped for the day. The last time the sky became clear was well over a week ago, and he wondered if the seasons were beginning to merge forward. As he wandered around the empty grove around him, he was glad to have the sun above him for a short time at least. He had forgotten what the sun felt like on his back, and the clouds were becoming a familiar color to associate with. Ah, the sun was a nice touch.

He wasn't always this gloomy, but lately it was the only way to feel since the weather was so shitty. And to make it worse, he was freezing cold! How did soquili manage to survive in these ridiculous conditions. "Am I the only one always complaining?" he then mumbled, while staring off and into the nothingness. Things would definitely shape up! For now as long as his boredom got cured, he'd at least feel happier altogether! The day was already starting off good in terms of the weather, so it could only get better, right?

If only he knew.

Well now... wasn't she a sight for sore eyes. A beautiful, lovely creature whose neutral tones melted into a deep mauve and charcoal, edged with hints of gilt, black, and purple. Ash was instantly fascinated. He had never before seen a creature quite so extraordinary in coloration. True, there had been the pack of peacock feathered fillies, with their shimmering wings and fluttering lashes. True, there were the gem colored beauties whose blood it was said was bluer than the deep Atlantic Ocean. And true, there were a myriad of mares whose manes and bodies came in shades spanning the entire rainbow, or so it seemed. But even so, none had compared to this entrancing equine, whose leathery wings and spade tipped tail could not phase him. He must meet her.

Cloven golden hooves. Enchanting. The brush of a lovingly braided mane against a dark leg caught his eye, and he moved forward out of the snow topped mountains, the winter clad trees, and came to greet her. He opened his mouth, taking in the sight of the collar about her throat, and the flower in her hair. All of these things had him convinced that she was, in fact, of the feminine variety, and nothing would have swayed him from that belief, except...

Except the curl of her lips, the slight sneer that she wore, and the unconscious pride in her eyes. The very masculine pride. The look that said, without words, that the owner of said features knew himself to be a prime specimen. Oh, there was a pout. Yes, there was a pout, and he- it must be he, after all- was talking to himself. His voice convinced Ash, and the stallion stood stock still, disappointment weighing heavily upon him, before the fire of his nature caught up with the emotion, searing it to a crisp. So what if he was not the winsome mare of Ash's imaginings? Those gracefully set bones could just as easily belong to any winged creature. For truth, a stallion of his size would need such bones to lift up into the air, surely. And this pouting, sulking youngling (for Ash, of course, had never seen him before, therefore he must be a youngling) would do just as well for a moment's distraction.

"I cannot imagine what you could possibly have to complain about," Ash said, the fire in his tail spreading to catch in his mane as his hooves quite handily melted the snow around him. "I must ask, though... are you a new breed of stallion?" Most mares he knew couldn't compare- no, no mares he knew could compare- to this stranger. How disappointed they would be to learn that. He smirked internally, amusement playing in his eyes. "I've never seen anyone who looks quite like you do. I wondered at first if you might be a mare... but you don't sound like one." He looked a good bit like one, however. A good bit. Would he be displeased to know that?

Nothing could have prepared Lanzo for what the burning stallion was thinking. Nothing, absolutely nothing. His ears were not even prepared for the other's voice to appear! The fiery male came into view so suddenly, and Lanzo felt his eyes widen at what he said. He took like five double takes at the current situation. Now, exactly what-just-happened. He... he looked like a mare? Of all things that someone could say to him, this stallion had proclaimed him a mare?! Lanzo took a second to consider if he was sleeping, dreaming, or dead somewhere. But nope, he was completely functional and alive. This stallion had said exactly what he had heard.

.....................................

"A mare." he finally said, while arching his mouth in the fullest of frowns. "You expect me to take that as a complement?" He certainly WOULDN'T, thank you. He was from a proud family, and his father certainly wasn't a sissy! "Or are you just a stallion who has a personal taste in males?" he felt himself instantly take a half step backwards, since it felt appropriate to his next words. "I don't swing that way, I'm sorry." he then answered, while raising his brows awkwardly.

He wanted to be cured of his boredom, but now he was having his sexuality questioned. Oh my oh my. Why was fate messing with him?! He wondered if he would make it out of this situation alive. Or if the other would, for that matter!!

Laughter. Pure, ringing laughter rang out as Ash responded to Lanzo's dismayed distress. He could not help himself. The response was so charming, so young that it brought an immediate and a powerful amusement from him. "You don't... swing that way..." he gasped, struggling for breath as he continued to laugh rather helplessly. Oh, that was amusing. That was... perfect. He had wanted something to occupy himself with, and it seemed that he had found it. To calm himself, he took a bite of the clean, fresh snow, and ... and burst out laughing again as it turned almost instantly to steam. Damn it. Snow and fire didn't go well together, did they?

"You'll have to forgive me... I wasn't trying to make a pass at you, you see. I truly thought you were a female from a distance, with your coloring and the accessories that you wear." Wasn't. Now, though... now, it might be rather amusing to do so, mightn't it? The stranger had protested so violently that it almost had to be done. "Really, are you sure you're a stallion?" he inquired, his tone ever so slightly teasing. "I've never met a stallion with hair so prettily groomed as yours." Oh yes, this was bound to be entertaining. He wondered if he ought to be worried, but despite the faint hint of fangs that he could see from where he stood, he just wasn't intimidated.

Lanzo stared as the situation became a complete joke to the other stallion. Apparently what he had said was... funny. He thought it a valid response considering the circumstances. But he also took it as a sign that the stallion was not one who preferred those of the same sex. It was no matter to Lanzo HOW the stallion thought in those terms, but now he was seriously confused. His confusion would only get worse as the other stallion continued speaking. What a pity for him!

"Well you're eyes need a' checking. I am a stallion." Did he really have to PROVE it? That.. would be crazy. "And my hair comes from my mother. If you really wanted yours groomed why not go find a two-leggar like I did?" Seriously, was his hair that big of a deal?? "I assure you, there are other stallions out there who prefer to have tamed hair compared to wild and crazy. So... why are you still so surprised? If anything, you should be utterly embarrassed that you saw me suitable as a mare." He scoffed slightly then, and wondered if the fire-bound male was mental or something. "Maybe that fire is getting to your head a little bit."

Why not? Oh, that was amusing... as though for a moment he could ever go to anyone who was not fire proof for such a thing. "Why not? Why, if I went to any one of them, I should burn their hands off- that is, to say, if they didn't run from me at the get-go." Two-leggers seemed rather convinced that he was possessed of a demon, or something. Amusing, really, as it seemed that a two-legger had laid hands on a stallion who clearly was possessed of a demon. "Oh, now, see... that's a ridiculous thought. Why should I feel embarrassed because you are feminine seeming? I'm certainly not."

His eyesight was good enough. "I got my hair from my mother, too, so that can hardly explain it well enough." Though he had gotten the fire from both of his parents. "Methinks the stallion doth protest too much," he muttered to himself, wholly amused by the situation. "You're so concerned that I could ever think of you as a mare. If you were confident in your own masculinity, you would laugh it off." Which, of course, he had not. He had, instead, seemed quite offended, and insecure. Alas, he had been hoping upon first sighting this creature that he could assuage his apparent need for a fling, or even just a flirtation. Lanzo was, regrettably, not suited to such a thing.

Lanzo was quite uncomfortable in front of this male. Never had he experienced a mindset quite like his. It seemed as though the fiery stallion was always ten steps ahead of him. And that was rather bothersome considering that Lanzo deemed himself smart in theory. Well crap. He wasn't doing very well so far. "Sorry I, kinda missed the fire thing." he chuckled to himself lazily while watching the flames before him. The only good thing about this stallion was that Lanzo was now WARM. He didn't want this guy to leave since the fire was helping his skin out! So, he supposed he could handle the jokes for awhile. It was worth it for the free fire.

"Well, any stallion would be upset, I'd think." he then added, while glancing towards the male's eyes again. They were so very orange, and bright. "Plus, I never admitted to not being confident. I was just surprised, hell, wouldn't you be surprised?" This stallion was probably coming over to flirt with him! And, when he arrived, he could only mock at the situation at hand. So where did this leave Lanzo? As the idiot! "I like my looks, very much. I am proud of my family and would never consider changing myself in any way. And hey, I got your attention, right? Even if it was for the wrong reason..." he sighed then and rolled his eyes.
