So that those of us who appreciate this form of literature do not have to disturb those who post in the "Graphic Novels" thread.

What manga are you currently reading? Favorites? Most shocking? Most intelligent? Least intelligent? Biggest disappointment? Etc.

Current: One Piece(Just finished #5), Chobits (#6 I believe), Lupin III (#3), Berserk (#2), Sgt. Frog (#1), Ranma 1/2 (#4)...The list continues because I tend not to finish series when I find a particular issue unavailable for a long period of time. Bold are the ones I've read most recently(Within the past few days)

Favorites: I love chobits. Love it to the point of being overly obsessed with it and spending large sums of money on chobits related things. I had to stop reading the manga because I was going broke very fast.

Most Shocking: I have not read a really shocking ending to a manga recently, so in terms of storyline shocking none. In terms of quality shocking, Lupin III was surprisingly good. I went into that one fearing the worst and I came out quite amused.

Most intelligent: Chobits makes you think a lot if you really want to.
Least: Sgt. Frog...just...blah. I get pleasure out of it, but it stimulates very little of my brain, much like looking at shiny things.

Biggest Disappointment: My Neighbor Totoro. I grew up on this anime, it was my first and still one of my favorites. The other day I see it in the store in manga form and rejoice, only to open it up and see that it is scenes from the movie with little speech bubbles drawn in, a really disgusting marketing ploy.

Anyone else have any questions I should add to the list?

If you hate manga, or if you believe it does not belong in a guild which encourages reading, feel free to give reasons why. You won't change my mind but if it makes you feel better to try.

Wow my spelling is horrid today...

Everyone loves Chobits, it seems. I read issue one and two of the manga and was moderately unimpressed. To counter, xxxHolic, which is also done by CLAMP, has made me preorder book 4... a whole month and a half before it ever came out. It is awesome indeed.

The premise of the book focuses on divinations (as seen in Japan), Fate, Destiny, and "Hitsuzen" - a state in which there can only be one specific outcome. The main character is a teenage boy who is haunted by spirits, and his feet literally force him into the house of a diviner. When she's not getting drunk off her a** or forcing the main character to clean, she despenses 'help' to those that would seek it - help that very often comes in the most ironic form ever. There are a few cliqued elements in these books, such as the mysterious monkey's paw, but they are presented in a way that is remarkably fresh.

This book also has tie-ins with another running CLAMP series, Tsubasa, but I'm honostly not a big fan of that series as it's sole claim of interest seems to be bastardizing other CLAMP characters in the play of alternate dimensions.

If you're into reading graphic novels that go right to left, I would strongly encourage you to pick this series up.

I have been reading Pita Ten, which is rather cute but has some mysteries and a few depths to it. It isn't my absolute favorite or anything though, but it's nice.

I also have read the very first Chobits, but I'm poor and have not yet progressed, but I rather like it as well, and have seen the Anime. (Subbed, not Dubbed)

I also have Tsubasa and xxxHolic.. I love them both, but unlike this Sethimothy character, I rather like Tsubasa perhaps a smidgeon better, there is a viable reason for all the different characters to tie together with the characters, and I rather like the dimensional concept.

Not a big fan of CLAMP anymore. I fell in love with the art style though. Beautiful detail.

I'm.. actually.. not a big fan of manga anymore. I buy them to keep up with series that I have followed since I was 12(Whoa dang. That's a long time.), but I really don't care for it much anymore.

eek I never thought this day would come.
*shrugs* Oh well.

Well I've just started reading manga since I got my hands on Shonen Jump.. but my faves in there probably hare Shaman king and Sandland. Naruto is pretty ok too.. Yu-Gi-Oh is ok but it feels abit to childish for my taste but I read it anyway.

I can't really list anything yet cause I haven't read manga long enough to to do fairly.

I guess I'm drawn to the more "girly" manga. Chobits, Sailor Moon, Magic Knights Rayearth, etc. I especially enjoyed Gravitation. At first the plotline was confusing, but as it progressed it became much easier to understand.

I absolutely loved Chobits. I loved the plotline, the characters, the style, everything. It was so cute! biggrin I also love Hellsing, even though I've only read the first two mangas.

Bakuretsu, however, to pardon my slang, rocks my socks. The manga is ten times better than the anime, kind of like Sailor Moon.

And I really wish to read Miyuki-Chan in Wonderland, but I haven't managed to find anywhere that has them in stock. sweatdrop

My favourite manga are mostly those who are and will remain the kind that either do not make it into anime form or is not done justice by it by a longshot.

Among those I have failed to finish thus far I can mention:
Lone Wolf and Cub (Kozure Okami)
Blade of the Immortal (whatever the japanese title was again)
3x3 Eyes (well, they have an OVA, but...)

Appart from those I have a deep love of Dragonball, one which pretty much only applies to Dragonball and not the Dragonball wannabees
(*cough* Onepiece *cough* Naruto *cough*)
Why? First of all very early on it manages to establish a fascinating blend of sci-fi, eastern kung-fu fairy tale and typical Toriyama-ish humour and character design (needless to say the whole alien-thing sort of pulled the series down in my eyes, as well as the "raw power above technique" that came to plague their training and fighting-styles throughout DBZ).
Appart from that it holds a certain sentimental value to me, seeing as it was the only series I read through from the first volume to the last, buying the next volume as it arrived each month, during my years of entering Otakudom (we've never had the anime here, so it took me until around the end of the Freeza saga before I got hold of a part of the american dub and was introduced to the concept of "moaning for five episodes while loading an attack and then failing to kill your opponent")
Also I guess I cannot claim Dragonball fandom without admitting the fights can be a bit of a kick.

Yeah... I like Dragonball. Please do not look down upon me.

I'm pretty fond of weird/twisted/downright silly manga. Boku no Futatsu no Tsubasa, Short Cuts, Bobobo-bo-bobobo, Midori no Hibi, that kind of stuff. Gantz is also pretty cool; really dark and violent, with great artwork. I'd like to get into the Bleach manga. I've seen a lot of the anime and it rocks HARD.
