s c a n n i n g p i c t u r e s : ←——?——→ Your comprehensive guide __________ ✔ Put the picture you want on the scanning glass__________ ✔ Hook up the USB [Or Wireless connection if offered] from your scanner/printer/copier to your computer__________ ✔ Open up your preferred photo editing program. __________ ✔ Go to File and select your scanner as where to import from.__________ ✔ Follow on screen instructions to import your picture into the program. Edit if desired, and save to your computer.﹙ V I S T A ﹚I recommend using Windows Photo Gallery as your main program to import. It's easy, and you can preview what you're doing, make adjustments, and scan it right to your Pictures Folder. Here is how to find it! __________ ⇒ Go to the Start Menu and open your All Program's List. Select "Windows Photo Gallery"__________ ⇒ Click on the File Icon and select "Import from Camera or Scanner" from the drop down menu.__________ ⇒ Select your scanner in the box that pops up by selecting it and hitting "Import" __________ ⇒ Choose your scanning settings and hit Preview. Crop the size on screen in order to save time later. Next, hit Scan.__________ ⇒ You will be prompted to "Tag" your picture. This is how you name it. It will be saved in its own folder inside of the "Pictures" folder, located under your User Name in your Documents Section.﹙ W I N D O W S 7 ﹚Or if you don't have Windows 7 or Vista but have the paint program on your computer, you may follow the steps below to upload using Paint. __________ ⇒ Put your picture on the scanner glass__________ ⇒ Attach the USB cable to your computer and make sure your scanner is on __________ ⇒ Open the Start menu and locate Paint Program in your Programs menu __________ ⇒ Click on the "Blue Ribbon" (AKA, Dropdown File Menu) and select "From Camera or Scanner" __________ ⇒ Follow the on-screen instructions __________ ⇒ Make necesary edits and save your file as JPEG, JPG, GIFF, or PNG file. ﹙ O T H E R ﹚If you have Windows XP or Linux or another OS you may not have Windows Photo Gallery, Paint, or other Windows based programs. In these cases you can use other programs like Adobe Imaging Programs (Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Elements, etc.), one that came with your computer, or one that you may download off of the internet. For those without Vista, or Paint you may follow the basic instructions at the beginning of the post.

d i r e c t l i n k i n g : ←——?——→ Your comprehensive guide __________✗What's bandwith? Think of a website like a shelf. Bandwith is the amount of space on the shelf. The more bandwith you steal, the less space the person has to work with. It also slows down the other person's website because of all of the off-site ''traffic.'' Going with the previous metaphor, it's like people are staring at your stuff on their shelf and not their stuff. __________✗What is Direct Linking? It's when you right click on an image, and then find the URL for that image by hitting "properties," or, when you isolate that image on a single page and then take the URL in your address bar. Next, you take that URL and you put it between [IMaGe] brackets so that you can post the image in a forum without having to download it to your computer.__________✗Why shouldn't I? When you Direct Link something, you steal bandwidth. You wouldn't like it if someone did it to you, would you?__________✗What do you suggest? The best way to not steal bandwidth is to save the image to your computer, and to then upload it using your own methods. Of course, this destroys the link back to the website, so if that image is copyrighted at all, and if you claim its yours by not saying where you got it, it's considered plagiarism. As roleplayers, we kind of understand that it's not your graphic, but other people don't. If you have an opportunity to do so, say where you got the image. This is an especially good idea if you got it from somewhere on Deviantart.com or another similar community.__________✗Where do I do that? There are several websites that you can upload your photos on. You can try the following: Photobucket.com, Tinypic.com, Imageshack.com, and Photodump.com. There are others out there...Some of the above require a free membership, and others do not.
