Shuuken, a well-known lover of reading and patron of learning, sits atop a book case, swinging her legs ildlely as she gazes boredly around the library. Feelings of dissatisfaction float from her small frame as she idlely wonders how Jilan managed to convince her to meet him.

Shuuken will have to make Jilan pay, the Porcelain notes with a decisive nod. Her thoughts of revenge are soon torn away, however. Everywhere Porcelain file, some not noticing her while others cast her nasty looks but say nothing.

Shuuken merely snorts at the glaring adults before ignoring them, not caring to pay the strangers any mind. While she'd normally love to argue and fight adults, her mind is on a far more lofty goal.

Shuuken wants to save the Golden World, afterall.

The little scholar wanders down one of the aisles of bookshelves, carrying three hardcover tomes in both hands. He gives off a little trail of thoughts like he is humming to himself, but is not actually making any noise - must be quiet in the library! Then he stops at a shelf near Shuuken, but does not seem to have noticed her yet. Thoughts of the Princess drift through his little stream of consciousness, though; hopefully he will meet her and Nusumu soon, since they all wanted to get together today.

Jilan sets the books down on the floor at his feet and scans the shelves, looking for a particular book. It's okay if the others are a few minutes late, though, since it gives him time to look for this one more thing....

Nusumu purposely takes her time on the way to the library. It is not that she does not want to meet her comrades, or even that she dislikes the library. But it has a way of making her feel profoundly incompetent, so she has taken to avoiding it as much as possible. Now she walks through it slowly, avoiding looking at people. Her eyes are either directed at the floor, or at the ceiling.

She is looking upward, walking past a row of bookshelves, when she spots Shuuken perched atop one. At least, Nusumu thinks it is Shuuken, but as she is seeing the girl from behind, it is difficult to be sure. Nusumu considers a greeting, but decides to wait; things will begin when everyone is ready.

In the meantime, she randomly pulls a book off a shelf and squints at it, as if staring long enough will make the characters somehow make sense.

Shuuken narrows her eyes as Jilan doesn't seem to notice her--everyone else does, and yet Jilan is so oblivious! Shuuken ponders leaping from the bookcase and delivering a vicious flying kick into Jilan's head but decides against it.

After all, Shuuken might be hurt in the process.

Instead, the princess snorts and folds her arms as annoyed feelings pop from her like fierce little sparks. Jilan should notice his surroundings a bit more! scream

And of course, Shuuken turns her head and spots Nusumu within moments of her angry outburst. She furrows her brow and darts a finger at Nusumu. She's guilty of getting lost in the library as well--forget the books for now! They have a meeting after all, right?! Shuuken huffs before she turns and begins to shimmy down the bookshelf, her hands and feet finding purchase where books have been checked out.

Jilan starts a bit as he snaps back to awareness, his hand still hovering near the spine of a book. That sounds like Princess Shuuken and Nusumu both! Snatching the last book from the shelf, Jilan then gathers the rest of them in his arms as he projects his greetings. They were not waiting on him long, were they?

His worry is laced with curiosity already, though - what have the ladies managed to learn so far? And, more importantly, how are they all doing so far? How are they liking the Silver World? The little scholar glances between them, and tries to keep an awkward hold on all of his books. They should go find a table to sit around.

Though Nusumu is slightly surprised to hear that Jilan is there as well, Shuuken's outburst does not surprise her. She snaps the book shut and puts it back on the shelf before walking around to the other side. She is somewhat amused, and does not dispute Shuuken's claims. After all, as Princess says, they have more important things to discuss.

Now a bit nervous, Nusumu waits for Shuuken to reach the ground, returning Jilan's greetings. She was not waiting long at all... though even if she was, it would not be enough time for her to figure these strange books out.

But that is not important either. As to Jilan's question of what she has learned, and how she is liking the Silver World, the answer to both is 'not as much as she would like,' however she is hopeful that both situations will improve. If they are to get into specifics, she agrees that they should find a place to sit. If she remembers correctly, there should be tables... that way! Nusumu points down another aisle. At least, she thinks so.

Shuuken huffs and immediately begins heading towards where Nusumu guides them. She pauses for a few moments, however, and glances back to the struggling Jilan. A slight frown lines her features as she turns back, her arms easily taking half of his books before carrying them off towards the table.

As she moves, Shuuken shakes her head in irritation as annoyance sprouts from her like hateful little flowers. Shuuken knows where the Silver Empress might be, but it's all rumor. And even then, the places she might be are heavily guarded. Shuuken had thought maybe a royal proclamation might get her to speak to the Silver Empress, but...

Shuuken sighs as she drops the books on the table with a loud smack, her eyes moving to Brains and Sticky Fingers.

How did they do?
PostPosted: Thu Jan 22, 2009 9:14 am

Jilan fumbled the rest of the books onto the table and sat down, arranging them again in a stack. He then assures Nusumu with a small smile that there is always more to learn.

He flips through one of the books without really looking at the pages and sighs softly. Wait, so he is "Brains" now? "Jilan" works just fine, no? As for getting into the castle, the little scholar is also not sure. And he admits that he has not yet been able to find Jin, either. Genka has not heard from hir lately, and when Jilan returned to the old apartment where he lived during his previous stay in the Silver World, the place was completely empty. For what it is worth, apparently Jin is still renting the property, though, or so he heard? The boy shrugs, tapping his fingers lightly on the table as he thinks.

Is there some sort of way to request to petition before the Silver Empress? If anything can even get that far through all the government and to the throne. Jilan has been reading bits about the bureaucracy and he will not even pretend to understand all of it @.@; It might take a long time for any sort of petition to see her to actually get through, especially coming from three children, even if one of them is a Princess, but... Jilan wilts as he concedes that he has no better ideas at the moment.

Lady Nusumu is close to the palace already, no? What do things look like from her part of the capital?

Even before they get to the table, Nusumu can tell that Shuuken's research has not gone well. It is a shame, but not a completely surprising one. What little Nusumu has learned was much the same, rumor without substance. Sighing, she glances at her hands. She was sure she had washed them well before leaving the kitchen, but it's possible she missed a spot or two.

She smiles at Jilan, but she is thinking quickly. Their one contact with possible access to the Silver Empress is missing. Though the apartment is empty, the fact that it is still being rented is reassuring. Perhaps the people who rent it out would know more? She likes the idea of a petition, but agrees that one coming from them would likely not go far, Princess or no.

Nusumu is very close to the palace. But her part of the palace is full of working people- civil servants, but mostly people helping in the upkeep of the palace. The gardens are chief in Nusumu's mind- after the kitchens, of course. It is a very big place, and very busy. Not many people pay attention to Nusumu... but then, she often likes it best that way.

At this point she frowns. She has heard there is more to the palace, an upper level where the higher courtiers and Silver Empress are, but it is impossible to get into. She does not know what to do.

They'll just have to keep hitting Jin's apartment, checking to see if sie is in. Shuuken takes in a breath before snorting nosily, her arms folding before her chest as she takes a seat. Shuuken has an ally in her tutor, at least. She has been revealing where the Silver Empress might be, and has hinted at the possibility of infiltration.

She's also a powerful woman, but... Shuuken glances to her companions before giving her head a slow shake. She has no status. If they wanted to meet the Silver Empress, they'd basically have to break into the palace somehow, and then they might be killed.

Shuuken focuses on Nusumu for a few moments before sighing. There are really no ways into the castle?

Impossible to get into? The boy frowns. There must be some way to get in there, though, if the courtiers can get in, right? ... Maybe one of them could try to get into the court as they grew up but... well, that would take a very long time. And Jilan probably could not make it that high up in the bureaucracy.

Breaking in and risking death does not really sound like all that great an alternative, though.

Checking up on the apartment frequently sounds like a good method for now. If he remembered his previous guardian well enough, sie would probably know somehow that they were visiting.

And he does know that when sie disappears, sie is going to work with the Silver Empress, or so sie told Jilan. Hence why they are looking for hir in the first place. Logic would follow that Jin must get close to the lower palace to get up to the upper palace, right? Miss Nusumu should keep an eye out around where she lives, perhaps. Jin should be easy to pick out because sie never paints hir face.

He grins a little and licks his fingertip, then starts smudging off the marks drawn beneath his own eyes.

Nusumu cannot see the point of visiting an empty apartment, but feels that it cannot hurt. She is glad that Shuuken's tutor has been so helpful to her. Powerful allies are important, status or no. It is not as though anyone she knows, aside from Princess, has status anyway... sweatdrop

Smiling wryly, Nusumu drums her fingers on the table. Do they really think she has not tried? Nusumu is a master of being where she is not supposed to be! Admittedly, she is a little bit rusty, but if there is a way in, it is very well hidden. Short of climbing the pillars, Nusumu has tried everything she can think of. She will need more preparation if she is to attempt to climb them alone.

As to the courtiers... Nusumu does not pretend to know anything about their lives. Perhaps they never leave? Or they have powers that enable them to ascend in a different manner? It would not surprise her, anyway.

Now it is Nusumu's turn to sigh, and the drumming grows louder. She always keeps an eye out! she insists, perhaps a bit more forcefully than necessary. She does not like coming up empty-handed on a mission such as this.

Shuuken releases a long, drawn-out sigh as she smacks the table once and fiercely. Her eyes dart to Nusumu and she forcefully shakes her head. No, Shuuken would never have her go up there alone--who knows what dangers are up there?

Shuuken's eyes narrow as she frowns, watching the floor. Their only real chance, it seems, is this Jin. Shuuken turns her attention to Jilan and blinks when he wipes away his make-up. His action seems to give her recently developed dark mood pause...

... before it dissipates completely and she bursts into thick laughter.
PostPosted: Sat Feb 07, 2009 7:13 pm

Jilan sighs, then jumps a little as Shuuken smacks the table. One elbow bumps his stack of books, and he scrambles to catch them before they slide onto the floor.

He, uh.... Sorry, lost train of thought. They should all stick together, though, especially when they enter the palace. He trusts Miss Nusumu to be able to find a way in, if there is one, because she is much more clever and sneaky than Jilan. They have only been here a few months, right? So she should not be hard on herself that she has not found anything yet.

While Miss Nusumu keeps her eyes and ears open and her steps silent, Princess Shuuken can see what else her tutor can tell her, and Jilan will keep trying to contact Jin.

If it was easy enough for three little ones to get to the palace in just a few months, then Jilan would have to wonder if the Silver Empress really was wise enough to help them-

As Shuuken starts laughing, the little scholar laughs as well, but also fidgets and blushes, falling into sheepish silence after a few moments. sweatdrop Jin got away with no makeup, so why not Jilan, too, sometimes?

Nusumu is almost disappointed; part of her actually wanted to try to scale the pillars. It would be a challenge, and challenges often yielded great rewards. But she agrees, somewhat reluctantly, that such a venture might not be wise at this stage.

It is early in the game, she knows, but she usually makes further progress than this. Still, Jilan is right, there is much time yet for further discoveries. She will of course keep looking, and trusts the others to do the same.

As to the issue of makeup, Nusumu is somewhat bewildered when Shuuken bursts out laughing. After a few moments of confusion, she decides that this is an issue more important in the Silver and Golden Worlds than in Gaia, where it was mostly choice what one wore. Although she is partly annoyed at the distraction, she is mostly pleased that Princess is in better spirits.

Her thoughts trail off, and she appears to be considering something else carefully.
