The sun was blistering high in the atmosphere, making the city below have a dry and humid appeal. The Pokemon Ranger, named Messa, had decided it was best to visit their usual spot today. As Messa traveled through the vicinity of the park, she spied the other members of the city enjoying the presence of their Pokemon. A young pair of trainers were sitting next to each other as their Growlithe and Pikachu were having a playful practice battle. An old man was standing in the shade of a tree, seeming content as he listened to the chimes of his Chimeco. Messa smiled to herself as she heaved her hands up, pulling the sleeping Kiru more closer to her chest. They were almost there. Pushing away the pair of bushes that hid the entrance, Messa climbed through. Even though the park was highly abound with flat open areas of grass, their was a certain area which was concealed by trees. A lone berry tree grew in the area, but Messa planted more. She came here frequently to harvest Enigma berries for her Kiru, since he was such a picky eater.
Placing the sleeping Panddiursa down gently, Messa got to work collecting the freshly grow berries. Humming a tune, her attention was completely off her Pokemon.
Even though Kiru was sleeping the entire trip to the small, hidden away berry farm, he awoke now. Stretching up, he sniffed the air. The sweet whiff of fresh berries filled his nostrils, but so did something else. A sweet smell, much sweeter than just berries. Rearing his legs up, Kiru dashed away from the Ranger. He jumped from the stretches of the woods and kept on running. Some trainers looked in awe at his colors while others only seemed to spy a glance, having seen such rare color marks before. Finally, Kiru found his mark. Jumping, Kiru randomly plummeted himself onto someone, sniffing with a rush for the sweet flavor his nose was adorned with.
Messa turned around with a smile on her face. "K-Kiru! Lunchtime!" she giggled as her arms were heavily full of Enigma berries. But immediately, the tumbled towards the floor as Messa stood there shocked. Panic burst through her mind as she dashed away from the small berry crop. Kiru would never run away! Why now? "K-Kiru!" she called out in a loud, stammered voice. Messa was entirely worried and wouldn't feel content until she found her partner Pokemon.

"Yeah....yeppers....Duh, Ma! I know! .........okay, fine. I'll give ya 'nother call when I find it, 'kay? 'Kay, bye!"
A click and a red/black pokegear was stuffed into the pocket of his jeans as a young man wearing a simple shirt, torn jeans, flip-flops and a beaten-up cowboy hat looked over the berry tree grove. This place, like so many other places in this giant city, was completely new to the person. Being raised on a ranch didn't help with his sense of direction either...then again, Michael always thought getting lost was a genetic trait in his family. Sighing and pushing his hat up to scratch at an itch on his forehead, Mike unhooked a red device from his belt and made a motion to switch on the map display when something furry and heavy sent him flying to the ground with a loud yell of surprise. His hat went flying, revealing a mop of messy brown hair, his bag laided next to him with the contents spilling out and the red device from before went flying into the bushes and vanished from sight.
"Eh? Wha? Who dah- HEY!" Mike gently but firmly tried to push away the searching nose as it poked through his pockets and t-shirt. It looked like a Teddiursa...but had some weird colorings. Maybe it was one of them "shiny recessives" his sister told him about. "Little buddy, c'mon! I dun't have anythin' of interest! All mah food is gone too!"

Kiru still sniffed around on the male. He was small, but he surely was heavy. Messa was suppose to be putting him on a diet, but his cute green eyes made her think otherwise.
Running still, Messa caught sight of her pokemon. She was thankful for having him colored differently. Made it much easier to find him. "K-Kiru!" her soft, stammered voice called as she hustled over to be Pokemon. "Kiru, bad Kiru! Don't run away like that again!"
Kiru shifted off of the male and jumped to Messa, burrowing its head in her chest. If he acted cute like this, he wouldn't be punished later on. "Ur ur!" he spouted as Messa snuggled her nose into his forehead.
It took Messa a while, but she finally realized that Kiru had thrown someone down. "Oh goodness!" she squeaked as she peered over her Pokemon towards Mike. "A-are you alright?" she questioned, though his appearance answered her question. Messa bent down, edging away slightly as she was always weary of people. "I'm sorry...!" Messa called towards the floored male. She growled at Kiru tapping him upon the nose. "Apologize!" she said, in a hastily adorable voice. It was hard to tell if she was being serious or just playing.
Kiru spouted a "Ur urrr saaaa! ( Hehe, you idiot! )" towards Mike. He stifled a giggle and this made Messa content with glee. He was so glad she could not understand what he was saying. If she did, than he was going to be stripped of his precious berries.

"Ow....I think I landed on some of me stuff..." Pushing himself into a keeling position after the pokemon got off, Mike patted away some of the dirt clinging to his shirt before reaching over to stuff his scattered belongings back into his backpack. he half-listened as what sounded like a trainer scold her pokemon for running off; his attention only became full when the apology came his way. "Nah, it's all right Miss." He grinned and tipped the brim of his hat at her. "Nothin' out of the ordinary for someone like myself. Been run over by pok'mon so much that it's don't really affect me that much; though an Onix or Rhyhorn'll give me a couple bruises I dun't want." Ignoring the slightly mocking-sounding words the panda-teddiursa sent at him, Mike stood and bowed to the female trainer. "I suppose it would be better if we started over, eh? Human bowlin' don't make much fer traditional greetingshere in the city, I take it?" His strong western accent only added to the signs of an out-of-place country boy. He was about to hold his hand for a handshake when realization clicked. A certain device had gone missing during the chaos; Mike paniced and turned around to throw himself into the bushes. If he lost that....oh boy, he didn't even wanna think about what would happen! He cursed as he pushed aside branches and brush. "Great Lugia, whar is that dag-gum stylus of mine?!"

Messa blinked. Stylus? Was he another Ranger like herself? "Voicemail!" Messa called towards the male as he scrambled towards the bushes. She tried her best to explain as she took a step towards him. "Um, um, what is your stylus number...thing?" she said, not really sure what in all of the Pokemon world what it was called. "I-I can call it and than it would be easier...for you to find it." At the same time, Messa had pulled out hers. It was a thick looking device, looking more like a purse rather than a device used for Pokemon assistance. She was forced to use a prototype with her stay in Zatao, since her Ranger Base became weary for her breaking her good one.
Kiru sniffed around the bushes also, looking for whatever Mike was looking for. If it was the sweet scent he had smelled before, he wanted it for sure!

"Voicemail-OW! Stupid branches...." A glare was sent at the offending bush limb before he looked up and back at the other Ranger. "Yep yep, but formal greetins' later! Right now, gotta find it or it'll be mah head if I loose it again!" He dove back down into the brush as his voice came up again. "ID is 00876-5623! Try it and see if I get anythin' out here!"
Mike kept a wary eye on Kiru as he waited for the Voicemail signal to ring out. If that bear thought his capture stylus was food, then it was in for a giant stomach ache.

Messa poked the ID number into her stylus before pushing the button to send the voice mail. The familiar noise entered into her ears as she pointed out randomly. "I-I think it is there!" she called.
Kiru bounced into the area where Messa had pointed, sniffing out for the noisemaking snack.
Blinking, Messa pointed the other way. "N-never mind!" she stammered as she pointed to another bush. "I-I think it is over there!"

Mike darted towards the direction where the other Ranger had pointed out, making a move towards the familiar beeping noise before changing direction to make up for obeying missplaced directions. He spotted and dove at a flash of red seen among the leaves.
A few moments later, he stood up with a aura of victory and the red device held out in front of him. "Wow wee! Good thing fer voicemail, eh? Otherwise thar might be a lotta missin' stylus layin' on the ground." Turning it on, he typed in a few commands and nodded with satisfaction at the sight of nothing damaged.

Kiru jumped from the bushes, clawing at the jeans of Mike. He wanted to climb up, but his claws could not get a good grip on his pants. "Ur!" he cried out. The idiot had his snack!
Messa blinked before holding out her stylus. "How...How did you lose it?" she asked. She found it quite irresponsible for the Ranger to lose his stylus. She really wondered what he was thinking just letting it go so easily like that. Messa was ready to complain to him, but didn't. Rather, she ushered out a smile and said, "What...what Ranger base do you come from?"

Mike nudged Kiru away with his foot before the pokemon could tear apart his jean leg. "I was checkin' up tah see if my old base commander had sent me any messages when Mr. Fluff here came outta nowhere and sent meh flyin'. I dropped it but thanks tah ya, I got it back."
Grinning, he quickly clipped it back into it's holster on his belt. "Im from a Ranger Base located in Mauville City, Hoenn Region; bossman sent meh here after I finished my training and got wind of some regular missions." He turned and placed his hands on his head, sending Messa a curious expression. "What about cha? Where'd ya come from, Miss"

Messa ushered out another smile to look content and friendly. "Vermillion City, Kanto!" she chirped happily. It was so grand to meet another fellow trainer. "I-I'm here, for um...just being here. Heh. My base sent me over to inspect or something...Name's Messa!"
Kiru flailed his paws in the air. He had not obtained his eighteenth meal of the day and was looking very grumpy indeed. As his stomach churned due to greedy hunger, Kiru stalked back to Messa. He pressed himself against her leg and immediately fell asleep. If he wasn't going to get some food, he was going to need some way to pass the time.

"Nice tah meetcha, Messa!" He grinned at his fellow Ranger before looking down at the amusing sight of Kiru. Mike then took another look at his aurrounding before staring back at (what he assumed to be) his Superior. "Act'ally, I have a request of ya, Messa. 'Wonderin' if ya be willin' ta guide me to dah Pokemon Center and then dah Ranger Base." Mike had the manners to let a sheepish expression appear. "I'd just arrived here not too long ago by the liner and I need to go fetch Royal from the Center 'cause them liner people wouldn't let him on the boat 'cause he was too big and he wouldn't go in tah a pokeball."

"Same to you Mike!" Messa smiled as she bent to pick her sleeping Kiru up. "Can be done!" Messa paused for a bit before tilting her head. "Royal's your partner?" she questioned with a curious expression. Messa felt a chill run up her back when she heard him say he was too big to get on the boat. She wasn't afraid of the fact that he was a Luxray, Messa just came to believe he was probably a very strong Luxray to not be able to be allowed on the liner.

"Thank ya!"
He started moving out of the brush and into some open area, stopping to watch the kids and pokemon at play before glancing back at Messa. "Yep! Royal's mah Luxray partner and a darn good one at that!" The guy stuck his hands into his pocket before leaning back a bit to stretch. "He's a bit bigger than most Luxray but bah no means violent. 'Tried to convince the liner people of that, even showed 'em my stylus and license but tah no luck. Turns' out only pokemon smaller than a Raichu are 'llowed out of thar pokeballs."
Mike suddenly realized something. With a grimce, he spun around and bowed to Messa. "Im sorry! I'm talkin' too much again! Whenevah mah mouth opens I jsut can't get it to stop movin' sometimes....."

Kiru stirred from his sleep, glaring at Mike with anger. He was having such a peaceful sleep, until the male Ranger started talking up a storm. "Ur urr! ( Blabber Mouth! )" he squeaked as he stuck his tongue out at Mike.
Messa laughed. "Nah, its fine!" she said as she nodded her head and pushed her blond hair out of her face. "Heh...I-I'm more of a listener than a talker anyway." She was quite oblivious to her Panddiursa waking up, so she just continued smiling.
