Long Shadows glided silently on a cool current of air towards Half Price's station. He was just returning from a real scavenging, rather than stealing something, where he had searched for something he could give as a gift to his new friend, Fancy. Said gift was held safely in his talons, a small thimble. Shadows had no idea what it was for, but though Fancy might like it. He was proud of his find. 'Maybe posing as a scavenger won't be so hard.' He thought. The setting sun was just barley visible behind a wall of clouds, an explosion of colors broke through as the sun traveled down the sky in it's daily ritual. Shadows watched it briefly before it finished it's job of slipping away, letting night fall slowly behind it. By the time he reached Fancy's nest it was dark. Like she said, there was a candle light near it and he found his way to it easily. He landed softly next to the candle. Shadows quickly preened himself before calling out quietly "Hello? Tickle Your Fancy? It's me, Long Shadows."

A small match fire glowed softly near the nanny's nest, despite the candle being there to provide light as well. Over it stood Fancy with a large thimble over the flame containing water in it. A sweet aroma wafted over in Shadows direction, seeming to be coming from the thimble. She had already started preparing the tea so that it would be ready shortly after he arrived.
"Just Fancy, dear," came her quiet reply. After she had checked the tea, she turned and faced the thief, curtsying to him as was proper. "The only pidge who use my full name are my superiors and family. I consider you a friend. Mind you, if you insist on calling me by my full name, then by all means." As she said this, the nanny turned once more and motioned for him to come and sit next to her near the fire. "You've come just in time. The tea should be ready soon. I hope you like jasmine."

The aroma from the tea smelled wonderful. "I haven't had tea in a long time, it smells great." Shadows said, and then bowed in reply to Fancy's curtsy before walking over to sit by the her. "I brought you something, by the way." Shadows held up the a thimble, slightly smaller than the one Fancy already had. It shined brightly in the light of the fire as he held it up for her to take. "I can see you already have one, but I'm sure it will be useful to you." The slate-colored pidge finished with a small smile. Shadows was all for useful things and thought that they would be more appreciated than a trinket that would only collect dust.

The thimble was something she hadn't expected on seeing. He had brought her a gift and a useful one at that! How thoughtful of him! She blushed a bit at the thought of him even giving her anything, and then took it gratefully. "This is so nice. Unexpected, but nice. You didn't need to do it for me, but...I love it!" Fancy's eyes sparkled when she said this, and once she was done talking she began moving and pouring the tea. From the big thimble she put it into her new smaller thimble and extended it out to him. It was the least she could do, giving him the first sip.

Shadows let his happiness outside of him in the form of a smile. She said she loved it! "I'm glad you like it." He said, still smiling. The slate-colored pidge watched and waited patiently, still brimming with joyful feelings while Fancy poured the tea. He accepted the thimble full of hot tea with a 'Thank you' and took a small sip to make sure he didn't burn his tongue. It tasted just as marvelous as it smelled! "This is wonderful." Shadows said enthusiastically.

"I'm glad you like it," said Fancy, pleased. "Although, I can't take credit for the tea itself. My parents were the ones who made it and gave it to me. Both of them are retired tea makers," she explained as she took a sip for herself. A content sigh escaped her beak and the nanny couldn't help but flutter her feathers enthusiastically. This was nice - being able to spend more time with Shadows. It enabled her to get to know him better, to find out the secrets of the mysterious slate. She smiled inwardly to herself at the thought of finding out more about him. It was like she was her own private detective: Tickle Your Fancy, Private Eye.

Shadows listened quietly to Fancy's tale of her parents, nodding and silently sipping the delicious tea as she spoke. It was rather relaxing to sit and chat with Fancy, as well as learn more about her. He decided he should tell her about his parents as well, "My father was a doctor and my mother was an entertainer." Shadows sipped the tea again and spoke softly "They're both retired as well." The thief didn't want to go into detail as to how they went into retirement and ruin the friendly atmosphere. "My mother loved to tell me stories as much as I loved listening." He finished on a lighter note with a smile.

Fancy listened intently to Shadows as he told her about his parents. Both of them sounded like wonderful, well-rounded pidge! She could see where he got it from. With parents like that, she knew he couldn't be bad. They probably raised him really well, as did most parents on the wealthier side.
"They sound really nice. I bet your father was a great doctor who helped many pidge, and I'm sure that your mother's stories are amazing." She sighed dreamily after saying this and took another drink of the tea. "I can't wait to start a family of my own. Having chicks is going to be an amazing experience. I just hope that I'll be able to raise them well."

Shadows nodded, "They were both great." he said and took another drink of tea. He pondered the idea of having his own family. Having a son or daughter and teaching them everything he knew sounded exciting. The slate pidge nodded once more, "I'd like to start a family of my own too sometime." Despite his confidence, the idea of him being a father made him still made him a tad unsure. "I'm sure you'll be a wonderful mother for your chicks of course." Shadows smiled. Fancy would make a great mother, she was sweet and had plenty of experience taking care of chicks being a nanny and all.

"I'm sure you'd be a good father," the nanny told him with a sure nod of her head. "You seem to be the type who would know how to take care and provide for your family. Given the state of our flock now, I could say we need more of that around here." Once she said this, she finished off the last of the tea, and started to clean out the thimble he had given her.
Fancy cleaned up her bigger thimble, put out the small match fire and then placed everything back in its proper place in her nest before she looked back over at him. "So, tell me," she murmured, sitting down once she was through cleaning, "what do you think about the divide our flock is now in?"

Shadows was very flattered by her complement and gave a "Thank you" and a warm smile. He nodded at her second statement, "We do need more of it. Especially with this divided state." The slate ruffled his feathers a little, making himself a bit more comfortable after they settled down. "I feel strongly that Half Price needs to either fix up this mess himself or step down and let some other pidge do it." He frowned, the thought of their current leader and what he had done, or lack of, for their flock irritated him. "It's disgraceful of him to let the flock fall into this condition. Sick pidge and chicks on the poorer side that can't fend for themselves are suffering the worst from all of this." Shadows finished and calmed himself down. He didn't want to get too riled up on the touchy topic. "What do you think about all this?" Shadows asked, curious to hear her opinion.

A frown spread across her beak when Shadows mentioned the state of the pidge and even worse the chicks on the poorer side of the flock. It wasn't fair to them that they had to live in absolute squalor with little to no food and unclean water. Something had to be done, and soon. Otherwise, she couldn't even begin to imagine what kind of uprisings it would bring about.
"What Half Price is doing is wrong by not letting the poorer pidge out of the flock. It is also not right that we are unable to speak of what's going on to pidge in other flocks." A sigh escaped her when she said this, and Fancy shook her head with disdain. "I've been an upper-class pidge my whole life, and my parents were in their prime when Half Price's father was the flock leader. Things were good then, and there was no dividing line between those who were better off and those who weren't. Something needs to be done, and if it involves Half Price stepping down, then so be it."
As she said this, the nanny set down her umbrella and moved to the end of her nest. Off in the distance, if you looked hard enough, you could see the poorer section of the flock. "I don't even think he's seen what the other side looks like, to tell you the truth. But someone needs to open his eyes..." Her voice trailed off when she said this, and another disappointed sigh escaped her. If no one was going to step up and do something about it, then perhaps she would be the one to do it. After all, none of them could keep on living like this. It wouldn't be right.

It pained Shadows to see Fancy frown like that, the thought of her unhappy made him unhappy as well. But they couldn't just sweep the subject under a rug, so to speak, it was too serious a matter to be ignored like that. Shadows nodded at what Fancy said. "We should do something about it. Everypidge in this flock, needs to, too. Things were great when his father was the leader, I bet even some of the other wealthy pidge wish it was still like it was under his leadership. Undivided." The slate colored pidge's mood turned quite serious. Shadows moved to the end of the nest with Fancy to gaze over at the other side of the tracks. "If he lived over there for a day and saw what it was like, I'm sure he'd change his ways."

When Shadows came to stand by her Fancy relaxed a bit. There was just something about him that made him feel calm and at ease. The things that he said were true, through - every one of them. Before she spoke again and without even realizing she was doing it, the foggy pidge rested her head upon the slate's shoulder. "I'll send him a message to see if we can talk to him. That will be the best thing. Then you and I can go together. We'll figure something out."
Her thoughts drifted to her parents when she said this. If they could see the flock now, they would be appalled. That was for sure. Rich, they were, but they weren't above helping lesser pidge in need, and they raised their daughter to be the same.
"You're a wonderful pidge, you know that, Shadows?" Fancy said to him suddenly, out of the blue. "You have a good head on your shoulders, and its so kind of you to be willing to help like this. It's very selfless."

Shadows nodded once more, that sounded like a good plan. "I hope he listens to reason. From what I've heard he's a proud, but nieve pidge." The slate closed his eyes and shook his head showing disaprovement towards the leader. "But we're sure to figure something out." Shadows flashed a smal smile at Fancy.
He was however caught-off guard at her complement and blinked in surprise. Nobody in the band complemented him regularly or anything, he just was what he was. Some of them respected him, others thought he his ways were soft. He felt a pang of regret, he had lied to Fancy and said he was a scavenger. The little lie he told when he first met her might grow bigger than he thought. How would he tell her? What if she thought he stole the thimble he found for her? She would hate him! Shadows shook his head, "You're much kinder than I am, plus you were willing to help as well." He pointed out. "And you're beautiful, too." Shadows blurted out the last part. It was almost as out of the blue as Fancy's comment had been. But it was the truth, and Shadows promised to himself he would be completely honest with Fancy from then on.
