Song

Baptised with a Perfect Name
The doubting one by heart
Alone without himself

War between him and the day
Need someone to blame
In the end, little he can do alone

You believe but what you see
You receive but what you give

Caress the one, the Never-Fading
Rain in your heart - the tears of snow-white sorrow
Caress the one, the hiding amaranth
In a land of the daybreak

Apart from the wandering pack
In this brief flight of time we reach
For the ones, whoever dare

You believe but what you see
You receive but what you give

[2x]
Caress the one, the Never-Fading
Rain in your heart - the tears of snow-white sorrow
Caress the one, the hiding amaranth
In a land of the daybreak

Reaching, searching for something untouched
Hearing voices of the Never-Fading calling

[2x]
Caress the one, the Never-Fading
Rain in your heart - the tears of snow-white sorrow
Caress the one, the hiding amaranth
In a land of the daybreak (Day Break!)

Listen here.

PAST LIFE

User Image

Name:Terelli Amorti

Gender: Male

Age at death: 21

Sexuality: Homosexual

Appearance: Soft, curly red hair that descends to his shoulders, usually tied. Blue eyes that pierce into the very soul and seem to leave it barren, exposing all secrets. Downtrodden. Ruddy clothes, but with a beautiful, almost feminine physique.

Story: (I’ll try to be VERY brief.) Terelli was an intelligent man, moreso than could ever be known now. He attended an institute on what this world would probably equate with Italy. He was raised in glamour, dressed in the finest clothes. He loved beauty because he was constantly surrounded by it.
Unfortunately for young master Terelli, his father was not an innocent man.
One day...
Terelli was at his favorite mirror, brushing his hair. He heard the dim roar of the crowd below, but he paid it no mind. His house had large groups of people near it all the time.
That day, the mob murdered his family for his father’s actions. He didn’t even know what it was his father had done. The man was so kind, so gentle...he’d never guessed, for all his brains.
Terelli barely escaped with his life.
Just months later, he ended up in Feardoc’s village. He was broken as it was: homeless, stepped over, spit on. Nobody wanted the son of a traitor such as his father.
...Except a young man simply named Ghirado.
Terelli’s looks enchanted Ghirado, who from personal choice didn’t ask or care about people’s pasts. He spoke to Terelli. Terelli had become rather mute out of distrust by this point, but Ghirado spoke so kindly to him, so tenderly...
They fell in love.
Terelli was just beginning to get back on his feet, finding humanity worth being exposed to. He was with his new lover every night, and by day slowly found himself being readmitted into society. Slowly, so slowly, he was seeing the beauty in peasantry.

He decided to take piano lessons, in a discussion with Ghirado. And Feardoc was the most able teacher around, they agreed, for someone such as Terelli.

...he’d left the day he died with a smile on his face and a kiss to his dear Ghirado. His last words to his most precious, forbidden love were a confession and a thanks.

His neck was sliced through with piano strings, tearing his vocal chords and silencing what had already become a rarely-used voice forever. His last thoughts where of Ghirado, and in his soul’s panic it ran to a sheet of music, unable to leave his beloved alone in the world.

SYMPHONY

User Image

Name: Dolce Mortel (Dull-say More-tell)

Nickname(s): Dual (Poi)

Gender: Male

Age: 6?

Sexuality: Just a child, so he has none yet. But I will say he has a LOT of spiritual residue from Terelli.

Appearance as altered by song: Wild, black hair, soulless black eyes. Enjoys wearing fancy clothes, but refuses to wear any jacket that’s not blue and any shirt that’s not white. Even though he’s in perfect health, he wears bandages around his neck and his left eye. He keeps his lightly-built body, but feminine isn’t the particular word for him. Abnormally pale skin.

Personality: When one meets Dolce, they realize how strong a child's gaze can be. He always looks at things with a sort of dulled fascination, and for long periods of time. It's as though he's trying to figure out the machinations of whatever his eyes meet. Really, he's obsessive in learning the structure of things.

He picks up on ideas very quickly, making his learning skills prime. Since he's the obsessive type, he'll work and work at an idea until he believes he's mastered the concept. This gives him, to an extent, some artistic ability, but he doesn't seem to appreciate that.

Dolce shows certain immaturities despite his intelligence, though. He shows a great deal of them whenever something he likes is given to him as a gift.

He has tendencies to keep people at a distance until he knows them well enough. For a young child, he doesn't seem to let a lot of emotion show. Making friends is difficult for him.

An odd thing about him is how he can't seem to control his psychokinesis at all. Whenever he's mad, he may accidentally send objects in the room flying. He's always very apologetic afterward. It scares him. He doesn't want to hurt anyone, and beats himself up about his abilities semi-constantly.

Explanation for changes: The harshness of the melody brings darkness to his color. The song carries an injured tone to it somewhere along the line, and brings the need for bandages where there are no visible wounds.

Relations (as he has no real story yet, as he’s not here yet):

Poi- Extreme dislike on the surface, but a certain dazzling amount of affection just a scratch beneath that hurtful veneer. It’s cute, really.

Marianna- She scares him, and he hates her. He avoids her room whenever possible, and if someone tries to get him to come in he goes ballistic.

Hodo- Dolce dislikes how Hodo always treats him like the child he is. He constantly gets sweets from the man, though, so they're actually on very good terms as well.

Everyone else- hasn’t met everyone else yet. XP

GUARDIAN

Name: ????

Nickname(s): Poi (various), Poison/Gaidoku (various), Kurosato (Dolce)

Gender: Male

Age: ???

Sexuality: ???

Appearance: Shaggy black hair, like some kind of back alley mutt, just a little close to his shoulders. Blue eyes that have nothing in them. Skin with only the barest traces of a tan. Generally wears red or black, and always steel-toed boots.

Personality: Very eloquent, in a unique sense. Generally gets along with people, but it seems like that's only in cases where he wants to (it requires effort for him to socialize). Very largely a slacker, and is often seen lazing about town. Other than that...nobody really understands where he goes. He tends to Dolce with the most gentle of hands, though. He's a good father figure to a certain exent, the extent being that you can get past his lazyness. He actually seems to accomplish a lot when other's backs are turned. Doesn't like to talk about himself.

Past: "What I have is between me and mine. If that's you, wouldn't you know about me already?"

ON THE AMARANTH...

Poi: Not many can say what I know. But I can certainly tell you just a tad about Amaranth. Perhaps knowing this will strengthen your understanding?

...

Supposedly, it comes from the Greek word amarantos, which means 'one that does not wither'. In this case, Amaranth is a Never-fading flower. Its colors vary to all sorts of hues, ranging from purple and red to gold. It's been used as a dye, a cereal, an ornament, and as a simple vegetable.

The unique property of these plants is that their color doesn't diminish. Everlasting, hence it's name. It's a quality that attracts liturature. Aesop wrote:

An amaranth planted in a garden near a Rose-Tree, thus addressed it: "What a lovely flower is the Rose, a favorite alike with Gods and with men. I envy you your beauty and your perfume." The Rose replied, "I indeed, dear Amaranth, flourish but for a brief season! If no cruel hand pluck me from my stem, yet I must perish by an early doom. But thou art immortal and dost never fade, but bloomest for ever in renewed youth."

Joachim du Bellay writes:
We that with like hearts love, we lovers twain,
New wedded in the village by thy fane,
Lady of all chaste love, to thee it is
We bring these amaranths, these white lilies,
A sign, and sacrifice; may Love, we pray,
Like amaranthine flowers, feel no decay;
Like these cool lilies may our loves remain,
Perfect and pure, and know not any stain;
And be our hearts, from this thy holy hour,
Bound each to each, like flower to wedded flower.

...The original spelling is amarant; the more common spelling amaranth seems to have come from a folk etymology assuming that the final syllable derives from the Greek word anthos ("flower"), common in botanical names.

In ancient Greece, the amaranth (also called chrysanthemum and helichrysum) was sacred to Ephesian Artemis. It was supposed to have special healing properties, and as a symbol of immortality was used to decorate images of the gods and tombs. In legend, Amarynthus (a form of Amarantus) was a hunter of Artemis and king of Euboea; in a village of Amarynthus, of which he was the eponymous hero, there was a famous temple of Artemis Amarynthia or Amarysia (Strabo x. 448; Pausan. i. 31, p. 5). It was also widely used by the Chinese for its healing chemicals, curing illnesses such as infections, rashes, and migraines.

Perhaps it's better now...perhaps not. But the flower is VERY important to Dolce, at least, and his development. Thank you for reading.

THE WHY OF IT ALL

Poi: As suggested by the thread, a few key points I missed out on that really DO need some mentioning. (not directly mentioned in some cases.)

1-The Song and why.
'Amaranth' was the most suitable song for Terelli, I think. The 'immortality' of the plant that the song is named for is something the young 'Italian' becomes obsessed with. The music, without even words, becomes a sort of map. His conflicts were all sudden and brutal even up until that final struggle with Feardoc.
The song...It blooms like a flower, recedes like a flower...it doesn't seem like it, but it happens so quickly...an accurate description of Terelli before death.
And darkness is in that. A transforming type of darkness...

2-Personality and how does this relate to the past life.
Dolce, to be honest, is still sorting through Terelli's mess.*laughs*
He's very introverted because that's who he used to be. It's who he was for the weakest moment in his past life. He hated everyone during that period. He's very spiritually receptive(another Terelli gift), and gets visions on a regular basis that are memories from his life long gone. Terelli had to do quite a bit to get to a place near Feardoc (however unintentionally, as Terelli had only wanted to run away from the corpses of his family), and hence was forced to learn certain words and to act certain ways on the fly. Dolce cuts no opinion from his speech because of that.

3-Abilites and why
Dolce's only new ability from the composition is the power to move objects. Both his learning skill and Spiritual receptivity were soul-inherit, though I doubt anyone lacks the ability to learn. Dolce is in for a long training session to learn how to control his psychic abilities, by the way. His psychokinesis will mess with him until he's at least in his late teens.

More as I see fit.

Other 'family'

User Image
Marianna Perdue- Poi's only sister, three years younger than Poi. She's EXTREMELY religious (but I won't name her faith). She found a secret about her brother once, and has since been convinced his only saving will be in his dying. She grew too ill to complete the task properly, but regularly makes attempts on Poi's life. Despite that, Poi watches over her and tries to show her he's still a loving brother. She lives (sort of) with Poi, in a separate room.

User Image
Hodo Yoran- Owns the Inn/pub that Poi and Dolce reside in. He occasionally asks Poi to do chores around the place in exchange for Poi having a reduced price on his rent. He and Poi have a very friendly relationship, to the point they constantly make jabs at one another and laugh about it. Hodo seems to be the only person Poi will sit back and obey with little to no fighting.
