The native may have been going into defensive technology, but he still loved a good, physical workout. Cane had just come from the gym, freshly showered, and for once wasn't just wearing a tanktop and pants. Instead, the boy was in a tight, knit thermal [dark blue] and a pair of black jeans. Ever present were his beaded armbraces and his dreamcatcher necklace. The boy was obviously of native american descent.

Also due to his heritage, he was unable of ignoring someone that needed help. This would be the second woman he'd met in just as many days. The 'Lady Doctor', as Alex had said?

Stopping, he greeted the flustered looking woman, instinctively bending down to begin neatly picking up papers. "Doctor...?" It was a guess. "Can I give you a hand?"

Siona was slow to straighten up and pay attention, but when she did she brightened up a little. "Hello," she said, running a hand along her hair to make sure it was in place. Looking crazy and out of control in front of a student wouldn't be good. "Oh, yes. That would be very helpful. I don't know what came over me!" She sighed and looked over the mess of sheets, then looked back to the student.

"Have we met before?..." It wasn't like her to forget faces, but she had been introduced to a good bit of them lately and it wouldn't really surprise her to forget one. He looked put-together, at least. Perhaps he was going to class?

Damnit, she knew the name. He was a new student! C... something with a C...

She looked rather flustered, but Cane would never say that to her. Besides, a hair or two out of place meant nothing.

One already large stack of papers was in his hands, but the 'raised right' native easily transfered them into only one, and extended a callused palm for a handshake. "No, ma'am. Canaan Tate Kreery." A smile. "I'm still in basics, but I should be promoted to Technology, soon." The first technology student, to be exact. "Defensive, actually. A Guardian." Which put him directly under Siona, as there wasn't a technology specific staff member.

Now his grin widened, and he gave her an honest shrug as he bent to pick up a few more papers. "I must confess I don't actually know who you are. Miss Falcone told me just yesterday that the only other woman on the island was a doctor, so I assumed that was true." Which it was, but he still didn't know her name.

"It's nice to meet you," said Siona, taking his hand for a moment before kneeling to pick up some of the papers herself. They were all going to be out of order, this was terrible! "Oh, that will be exciting. I find there are so many students still in the basics, it's strange. This school has been around for some time, hasn't it?" Yes, two years or so!...

She smiled up at him. "I suppose Miss Falcone must be my counterpart, the offensive secretary. Well, I'm relieved that I haven't forgotten one of my students! You were right, I'm Dr. Siona Hale. Thank you so much for your help." Might as well find out some things about the helpful young man- she asked, "What brings you to the S&T building, then, if you're in basics still?"

Cane was slightly taken aback by her comments. After all, everyone learned at their own pace, and Shinkami was revolutionary in letting the students teach themselves. If some were in basics a while, it was because they needed to be in basics. "Actually, I've only been here for about two months, and I've finished my requirements for promotion." He was just waiting on the paperwork, really. Cane was a fast learner, although he himself had trouble with reading.

"I come here a lot to work out." Another shrug. "One of my friends is already a science student as well, and I view Miss Falcone as a mentor, of sorts." A warm smile, although it was for the memory of the woman. "I'm here often, for research, as well." The teen liked to reach the mechanics manuals whenever he found them. "It is usually quite... Isolated here, and I find that clears the mind." Another quick smile. "I have a roommate, you see, and he sings quite often."

"If you would like, Doctor Hale, I have the time to help you collect and organize your paperwork." After all, Micajah would still be studying at the moment.

"You're speedy, aren't you?" She was pleased to see that Micajah wasn't a representative sample of the student body. (But then, she was biased.) "That's good." Why had her files been so huge? Sigh. It was ridiculous. Maybe she would just get a portable hard drive next time.

She glanced up, smiling a little. "Sings, does he? Well, at least you'll never be lonely. Thank you for the assistance, by the by."

"Well, if I am promoted soon, then I'll be a little lonlier. I hear we don't get roommates once we're past basics." A smooth shrug from the stocky native and he pointed down the hallway, where papers were still catching a breeze and floating off.

"You take my stack, and I'll go chase those down?" He smiled. "I'll bring them back to your office when I've got them all."

She nodded. "That's true." It was probably so the students would have more room to pursue their own projects. She knew that the physics class required building some pretty decent machinery, and the books needed for other things...

"That would be wonderful," she said, smiling gratefully. She held out one hand for his stack, shifting hers to the other arm. "Thank you, Canaan- do you mind if I call you that?"

A nod. "Canaan is my name, Doctor Hale." Calling him Mr. Kreery would definitely be odd. In fact, he'd never been called that in his entire life. After the woman took the papers from him, Cane took a nice jog toward the far end of the bulding. He'd start with the papers further away, then get the rest as he returned.

It took him about five minutes, and when he approached her office once more, he gave a polite knock on the doorframe before entering. "Here they are, miss."

She smiled again, more of a happy beaming than "smile", which was kind of a weak word for it. "Thank you again," she said pleasantly, and headed back to her office. The door was quickly becoming familiar; she unlocked it and stepped inside, feeling a little less like an idiot since she was in her own space now. Which was a rather stupid feeling, and she was too educated to have it, but. Didn't seem to much matter.

Just a few moments after she'd seated herself and begun to put the papers in order, the native student had entered the office. Siona smiled again. "Thank you so much, I'm sorry there were so many." She rose again and held out both hands for the stack; the gold bangles on her wrists glittered in the light from her window.

"It was not a problem, Doctor Hale."

The papers were offered over, but he didn't let go right away, instead raising their joined hands to the sunlight filtering through the window. Blue eyes flicked up to meet her's and he gave that winning smile. "Your jewelry is well made and beautiful."

A good compliment, from him. Canaan rather liked accessories. Letting go, he stood with his hands folded behind his back. Casual, for the native. "May I assist you with anything else?"
