Sorry this took months but I just didn't know what to post. There's so much info out there and I seem to have lost all of my school books and notebooks as well so, here you go:
The Mayans are a Mesoamerican civilization, noted for the only known fully developed written language of the pre-Columbian Americas, as well as its art, architecture, and mathematical and astronomical systems. Initially established during the Pre-classic period (c. 2000 BC to 250 AD), many Mayan cities reached their highest state development during the Classic period (c. 250 AD to 900 AD), and continued throughout the Post-classic period until the arrival of the Spaniards. At its peak, it was one of the most densely populated and culturally dynamic societies in the world but, something happened to them and the civilization somehow got lost or disappeared. I've heard how they predicted that the world would end in the year 2012 and I hope they got that one wrong or that they just stopped making their calendar cuz they pretty much vanished, who knows... mrgreen
