The monster of her past, her present, and her dreams had been injured. She was there when it happened, the only witness to the fight between the brave Adonis and Persephonix. The encounter plagued her thoughts, replaying almost constantly as she assessed the peculiar feelings she held towards it. When Adonis stabbed Persephonix in the chest, the mare had never been afflicted with so many different feelings at once. Relief, elation, fear, and... Concern.

Concern was what worried her.
Why would she fret over her captor's safety? It must've been for Adonis, since he was so close to the beast...

"Why would I worry over the beast..." The words slipped past her lips in a whisper, her icey eyes narrowing at the thought. He had caused her years of emotional, physical, and mental pain. She remembered every swift kick, every harsh bite... Every cold word spoken her way. Despite looking so alike, by the way he had treated her one would never suspect they were related.

Standing by a frozen pond she had happened upon, Merciette lowered her nose to the frozen water. She kept from touching the ice, but she could feel how cold it was from a centimeter away. It was colder than the brittle wind, though from spending her childhood in the mountains she was quite accostomed to it. Just as she was used to the lonliness being on the run entitled. Adonis was the first kind soul she actually spent more than just a few minutes talking to. She didn't want to leave a trail for Persephonix to find her.

But even by not socializing, he had found her.

It was so confusing! The mare grimaced at her reflection and turned from it sharply, looking out at the opposing treeline. Where was she to go now, if he could find her anywhere? She had no idea if the wound was fatal... And if it wasn't, he'd hunt her down as soon as it was. Was she supposed to get as far away as possible? Should she stay stationary and let him go on a wild goose chase?

This was not the way to live a life.

Amitiel shook his mighty mane for a moment, the winter breeze felt sharper around his face than usual, it was as if his body had become more accustom to the warmth in these past years. A shame by all accounts, for the winter brought forth the most amazing experiences. The snow, the ice, the sparkle in every soquili’s eye as you past, these were only a few of the wonders that he absorbed in its chilling presence.

His wings became tired as the struggle against the wind increased, so reluctantly he settled upon the earth with a gentle 'thump'. The snow that had settled there was icy and sent a billowing shiver through out his body for a moment. It was surprisingly refreshing.

He strolled through the endless cold, each step leaving a gentle hoof shaped imprint on the ground but did not make too much sound, even with the crispness of the snow. His eyes spied the trees in their white winter coats, and the sky with his covering of cloud, everything here seemed so white, so perfect. It was almost a shame to have to disturb it.

After wandering for a while Amitiel eventually came to a lake, the thoughts that whirled around in his head had nothing to do with the scene his eye could see. It was almost as if this place forced him to remember something, suppressed and forgotten. A mare dainty and beautiful, her hair flowing gracefully in a gentler breeze, she turned towards the spot where she had been waiting for him appear from, yet he didn’t, tricky and surprising as always he appeared from the lake. Flinching he forced his painful memories to the back of his mind, after all it had been shortly after this that she had met an unnecessary death... if only he had been quicker. That was not a mistake he was likely to be made again.

His eyes flickered back to reality and he found himself on the icy shores of the river, mouth tender from the thirst he felt building in the back of his throat. Yet as he concentrated upon the water he noticed that the top was frozen, placing a hoof gently upon its surface he pressed softly. It didn’t appear to be too thick. Inhaling deeply he leaned onto his back two legs and with all his might allowed himself to come thundering down upon the ice, his hooves digging into it with the power behind his movement, it creaked and cracked, the glacial sound echoed in his mind like a symphony, the chimes were delicate, lovely even in their perfection. The ice was not fully broken yet. Using only one hoof now he rammed it through the remaining layer of ice to reveal a gushing pool of water as it tried to heal the wound that had been inflicted.

Carefully he lowered his head, ensuring that he did not allow his cheeks to touch the ice for too long. The liquid was extremely cold, an as he took each gulp he noted the thicker texture, as if small shards of ice had crystallised with the water. Once he was finished he raised his head to examine the surroundings he had stumbled upon. With the whiteness of winter it seemed more peaceful than usual, the tree line seemed delicate, yet it also appeared recently disturbed. Curiosity started to build, who else had been out on this chilly winter morning?

His eyes eagerly scanned the surroundings now, but with a new intention. It was then that his eyes locked upon a beautiful mare, blue and white in colouring, she seemed to blend into the winter surroundings perfectly. For a moment he was almost speechless, the images of his past seemed to come flooding back to him as he looked at her. Quickly he lowered his head, it was too painful for him to bear.

The only sound that echoed in the young mare's ears was that of the wind. The sound of running water evaded her hearing as well as the feeling was absent in her throat. Being keen about her surroundings was something she had picked up during her stay at Persephonix's cave... Always listening for when he was returning from a trip, whether or not he smelt of blood without seeing him. Her senses were honed even better after she had escaped, as she had to be one hundred percent aware of her surroundings. If he were to ever catch her by surprise like the unfortunate day she spent with Adonis...

That poor Unicorn. Because he had allowed himself to be ailed by her presence, he had been attacked. Luckily enough he came out alive, but she couldn't allow somebody else to get hurt becase of her. She had left him as soon as the opportunity arose, and here she stood again. At least now nobody could be harmed because of the monster of her past.

The sound of breaking ice pierced the silence. To those who were not very attentice they may not've noticed, but her ears picked up immediatly at the sound. Her body locked up and she turned her eyes from the dark treeline to the other side of the frozen water. There was nothing until... Another Soquili.

She scorned herself for not recognizing the presence of another and blamed it on her clogged senses... Especially since this stallion was none she'd ever seen before. He was... She was speechless. The stramger was tall, with massive wings... And stunning in color, as if he had come straight from the frozen pond and was still graced by the beauty of ice itself. After staring at the stranger, she only just registered that he had been looking her way when he looked down. With that, she also realized she had been staring quite rudely, and embarressed she looked down.

A stranger. A witness.

But Persephonix was stabbed in the chest! And would he ever encounter one with wings like this stranger...?
'Yes, yes he would. He doesn't care as long as he finds a mean to my end.' The thought sent a visible shiver down her spine, and she began to retreat backwards. She peeked at him from under her silken white bangs, ashamed of her desire of company. Company the last time only led to trouble. And who wants to be troubled by a mistake?

Amitiel had always had a gift for seeing the truth in the eyes of those around him; it was because of this that he saw himself as the ‘Guardian of Truth’, although their was nothing magical about his ability he had never been wrong, there was simply something about the person before him that he could read. So far he had tried his ability out on nearly every specie of soquili, including mutants, and although some mutants were harder to read due to adjustments to their facial features they acted in the same way as others. Yet in all his ‘experimentation’ to discover the truth he had never met anyone who always spoke the truth. It was a shame. Although Amitiel had this ability he rarely shared it, or made it obvious that he knew someone around him was lying, the way he saw it was that they obviously had a reason to lie.

In the moment when he had looked at the strangers eyes he saw something sad that contrasted the beauty that lingered in her appearance, her wispy white hair flowed on the breeze gently, it was hypnotic to see.

It was in the moment when he looked down that he wandered of the possibility of her needed him, of him actually being needed again by someone or something. There was hope for him, no matter how slim it was. Yet as he raised his head once more to peek a second view of her she seemed disinterested. Was there something troubling her? The features on her face seemed slightly wrinkled as if she was in sort of distress. That brought an automatic concern to his soul, perhaps that was the mark of his breed, and his family had always shown a greater concern for others than for themselves. So much so that two of his siblings had lost their lives protecting others. That was another disadvantage of his breed; death seemed to follow closely to those who cared to truly look. Amitiel lowered his head for a brief moment to sip at the cool liquid once more before the lake reclaimed the liquid into its frozen grasp. Once he was done he stretched his wings for a moment, each feather tingled as the cool breeze ruffled them and brushed them into its grasp, it felt almost like flying yet with his feet firmly placed upon the ground. He took a deep breath before he allowed his muscles to flex and ripple as he took to the skies. It was the fastest way to reach the other side of the lake.

His wings caught the breeze delicately, swooping gently as the breeze twisted and turned around him. This was the only true freedom he ever felt, the wind flowing through your hair as you allowed the breeze to carry you. Yet this time he had a reason for his flight, he wanted to meet the troubled mare that stood before him.

With each flap of his mighty silent wings he draw closer, her colours becoming more and more distinct and beautiful, the blue specks shimmered to his eyes like diamonds, the design looked mysteriously like wings painted in their delicate perfection. His eyes twinkled at the sight as he lowered himself softly to land beside her, yet not too close to scare her.

He flicked his head softly to shift the hair that had been blown into his face during flight; he placed a soft and welcoming smile upon his lips before he slowly lowered his front legs into a bow, his eyes never leaving her as he contemplated what to say. The normal words of welcome seemed somehow out of place here, too ordinary, too plain in regards to her elegance. Yet he did not even know her name or her interests to start in a more intimate fashion. Defeated he returned to a more socially accepted line of welcome, attempting to stay the complete gentleman at all times. "Fair lady, my name is Amitiel. It would be an honour if you allowed me to walk with you for a while." Pausing for a moment he allowed his eyes to glance over her form once more before he continued, "may I say that the snow compliments you perfectly? You look radiant." He was unsure whether or not she would accept such compliments, but it was the truth.

Nothing but the truth left his lips.

Her eyes deceived her. They always did though, didn't they? She had once perceived a massive Kalona with the likeliness of Erebus to be her father - and look how that came out. She thought a Unicorn of brute strength would be her savior - and he left the next morning. Merciette however, only opened her eyes and ears to the world around her, never her heart. She could only see skin deep, afraid of the intentions of another whether they were good or bad. Her skepticism ran deep, and it was hard for her to assume that many Soquili were decent and gold-hearted.

So when she looked up and saw that the tall, majestic winged creature was gone, Merciette was not surprised. There was nothing appealing standing across the lake from him - she was a rat, of course. A dirty, filthy animal. What did surprise her however was how her heart fell, disappointed at the chance for company. The mare was quick to rebuke this in her head. He was smart to fly away and not make her acquaintance. It would save them both from grief.

The blue and white mare had begun to turn when the stranger landed feet away. He was within talking distance, not too close or too far. He could deny her company and she his. His landing caused her to tense, and she stared out from her bangs in a worried manner as she assessed the situation. There was such a... Pleasant vibe coming from him however - it made her muscles want to relax.

His words eased her from her tension, but it was still present. She shook her head to knock her bangs from obscuring her vision as she took in the speckles on his coat and his grandiose wings, which could surely block out the sun if need be. He was an interesting fellow by the looks of it. Afraid to be caught staring, Merciette was quick to look down at the snow, her ears perking and then slightly flattening at his words. "You want to walk with... With me? Amitiel..." The words and his name rolled off her tongue in her quiet, ghost of a voice. Icy eyes peered at him inconspicuously, his flattering words coming up short.

Years of being demeaned led her to believe differently. She truly believed that she was the sin of her father, the ruin of her brother, and just simply a mess. She forced a polite smile at his words, "Thank you for the compliment, but there must be something wrong with your eyes," she turned to look at him fully and looked to see if he bore the glazed eyes of a blind horse. He didn't, but she continued: "You mistake me with the snow, the ice, the water, and yourself."

Her name eluded him in her words. Merciette took a step forward, watching him to see if he would truly walk.

The snow felt cold below his hooves, it clung tightly to the strands of hair that trailed around his ankles as he shifted his weight softly to make standing more comfortable while he waited eagerly for a reply. He could feel just from her movement that she was in some sort of trouble, a soft wave of pain seemed to emanate from her and it troubled him deeply to see any creature in such a sorry state. The feathers on his four might wings fluttered in the wind as he pulled them tighter in at his sides. He knew that he could come across as intimidating, even to others of his breed due to the great size of his wings and the turret of hair that flowed from his head. Everything about him appeared over the top in his own eyes.

He stood, watching and waiting her, his eyes never leaving some part of her body even for a moment, as he ran her image up and down in his mind. Her hair was white with a touch of frosted ice upon the bottom, the markings upon her pelt were deceiving of wings yet it was clear she was of normal heritage. Long strong legs, powerful and designed for running long distances. On one of these fine legs he noted the delicate beaded bracelet, once again he felt over the top for he himself have two upon each leg, yet not as grand her single decoration. Delicate and deliberate her appearance seemed to him.

Snapping his view from her legs to her face as she begun to talk he noted the instant wave of ’truth’ that hit him, it was strange sensation, it was almost as if a breeze swept over him sending an electric current through each and every cell in his body, he was well practised now in not moving at the experience. Yet as her words continued from merely asking him of his own intention at a walk he felt overwhelmingly sad, for she believed her words to be truth that much was clear, as if somehow she was inferior to him and every other creature of the world, and he knew be he blind or not he could never see her as anything other than "Radiant". He spoke the word once more as if attempting to reinforce he previous statement as well as to justify in his mind what she could not see herself. Although he forced a gentle smile upon he face he knew she would not be able to tell the difference, so he spoke in a strong yet gentle voice, afraid to damage this delicate creature further. "Perhaps you should allow me to be your eyes from now on; after all I believe your vision is clouded." He turned around so that his body was now facing the lakes glistening surface before he turned his head towards her and spoke once more. "Please join me for a moment" and with that he began to move forward, taking care and deliberation with each fluid movement across the slippery surface of snow.

When he reached the icy surface of the frozen lake he turned to look at her once more, speaking in the same tone as before, "They say that this lake shows you for what you really are." His grandmother had told him that a frozen lake was a mirror to what we could not see, the gate way between reality and perception as everything appeared to glisten and dance within its surface. His intention was pure, he wanted to point out the true beauty within her features, the high cheek bones which gave her face a proud yet gentle look, the hypnotic blue eyes that he could drift in for days.

Shaking himself subconsciously he quickly added, "Oh and I do intend to walk with you after I show you something." Once again he spoke nothing but truth.

It was a peculiar feeling... That to be talking to a complete stranger who wanted to reach out to her. It made her feel self-conscience as he repeated the compliment, and all in all very out of place. He was the radiant one. He looked like he had descended from the heavens and was the most blessed thing in the area. The snow, the ice, and the scenery was beautiful... But he was the one to be showered with compliments. He glistened in the sun as if it was meant just to shine for him, and in turn she felt severely insignificant.

But when he spoke to her, she almost felt a speckle of importance... And it confused her as to why he would demean himself by spending such a splendid day by talking to her. It was horribly depressing to think such a thought, but that was how her mind assessed things - the product of living with Persephonix as a young filly.

At his words, she found herself turning away from the lake, shaking her head. Clouded? She saw clearer than anyone she knew... Even if that number was very little. She had seen the charming brother turn into a monster. She had born witness to the brave Unicorn flee after having to defend the damsel in distress. Everyone had a front in this silly world of disguises... But she found she had no verbal rebuttal to his comment. Merciette cast a glance over her shoulder at the grand Amitiel, curious as to what he wanted to show her.

"My reflection?" The words escaped her lips, and the ghost of a smile appeared on her face. And as silly as it seemed, she tentatively turned and walked hesitantly towards the icey surface. She put a foot of distance between herself and the stallion, not even realizing how close she put herself to the stranger. She leaned over slowly and looked at the mirror in the iced water.

Looking back at her she saw a pair of eyes that matched the cold sheen of the water, and a face and mane that reflected the snow. To anyone else, they might see a stunning mare. But to Merciette, she saw the result of a fling between her parents. No words escaped her lips as she mulled over this, staring more and more at her reflection... Before her eyes drifted to that of Amitiel's. His mirror didn't do him justice, and for that she felt saddened at the water.

"The lake does you no justice." Her words were soft, and her ears lowered against her head as she turned her gaze towards him.

Amitiel watched the mare curiously, she was obviously struggling with an inner turmoil that he wouldn't understand straight away, patience and time were the only remedies he could think of to sooth such a soul. Two qualities that Amitiel proded himself in possessing, that and his honesty.

She was so close to him as she looked at her own reflection, he wanted to nuzzle her, tend to her in some small way that would show her that someone cared by he dared not, instead he just imagined the sensation instead, sniffing at the air to pick up her scent. He hoped that she wouldn't try to run away from him, but if she did he would at least be able to use her scent to track her and ensure no harm arose to such a fragile mare. It saddened him to think that she had been allowed to get into such a state.

Her words startled him a little as he gandered down at his own reflection for a moment, he was plain in looks really with a speckled green and silver pelt that shone a bit like dimonds on the sleek icy surface. Uninteresting in his eyes but her words were still flattering, perhaps there was a part of her still awake in what otherwise could be described as an empty vessel. That interested him greatly. How else could he possible spark her interest?

Nodding softly he spoke his gratitude, "You are two kind m'lady." It was as the m'lady part left his lips that he realised he did not yet know her true name, it was possible she would not share such a gem of information, he knew of soquili who kept all personal interest so close to their hearts that they never opened up to those around. He had to at least try. "My name is Amitiel," he began, standing up tall once more and catching her piercing line of sight, such beautiful eyes. Not allowing himself to become distracted he spoke once more. "What may I ask is yours?" If needed he would wait a thousand years to hear her name, and a thousand more to understand it. Ask a thousand times to show his determination and give her a thousand gifts to show his thanks.

He knew they would leave soon, or perhaps she would try to leave without him, but still that would happen soon for she did not seem like the type of mare who stayed in any one place for too long.
