Zukon stood in the field, his katanas in hoof, and stared at the sapling in front of him. Without any indication at all, Zukon shot toward the sapling, katanas bursting into flame as he went. He spun around, using the katanas to slice the tree into large, flaming chunks.

Lucky had been gazing out over the clearing but her serene afternoon came to a sudden halt. She gasped at the scene of destruction. "Oh no, what are you doing!?!?" she cried running to the tree. "You've killed it..."

Zukon stared at the girl and then at the tree. "It was just a little one. And I needed it to practice. Sparring with the air doesn't give me the sensation of impact that I need to be prepared...and I always plant a new one for every one that I spar with."

"But what about this one..." Lucky asked sadly gazing down at the charred pieces of sapling. "Poor thing...couldn't you use a rock or something? Something without feeling..."

"Rocks are a little too hard. They don't give like a body would." Zukon stopped short. "I..uh...nevermind that. I can find a rock if it will make you happier..."

"Why do you have to hurt anything?" she asked quietly as she reached out to touch one of the burnt pieces. She yelped and pulled her hoof back, a small burn marring her fur.

"Be careful!" Zukon reached for her burnt hoof and pulled a jar of salve from his bag. He carefully unscrewed the top of the jar and put a generous amount of salve on her hand. "That should take care of it."

Lucky winced at first but sighed in relief as the cooling salve worked its magic. "Why do I get the feeling you've had a lot of experiences with burns?"

"Sometimes. An enemy won't care about the surroundings. They will find every advantage over me that they can. If I'm distracted with trying to protect my surroundings, I might miss a something crucial to bring down my enemy."

"I have done nothing, but my family has many enemies. And I have to train so that I am a good warrior. I have to make my family proud."
