Baby Delivered Days After Mother's Death
CBNnews.com
January 14, 2009

CBNNews.com - Doctors at a British hospital took extraordinary measures to deliver a baby from a woman who they had declared brain dead two days before.

Jayne Soliman, an accomplished British ice skater, had maintained a healthy pregnancy and continued to coach skating until the day she collapsed from an apparent brain hemorrhage. She never regained consciousness and was pronounced brain dead shortly after.

Believing a mother's body is the best incubator for a baby, the doctors kept Soliman on a life support machine to give the infant a chance at life.

Abortion: You are not Alone

Aya Jayne Soliman was born by caesarean section at 26 weeks and weighed just 2lb and 11oz at birth.

Mike Judge, head of Communications at The Christian Institute in the United Kingdom applauded the doctor's efforts despite Britain's liberal abortion laws.

"In Britain a baby can be aborted up until 24 weeks. About one in five British pregnancies end in an abortion."

Baby Aya's father, Mahmoud Soliman, now faces a bitter-sweet reality with the loss of his wife and birth of his daughter only days later.

Soliman said his wife had been devastated to suffer a miscarriage in 2007 but was excited at the news of their new pregnancy.

'I can remember the first scan,' he said. 'We just hugged each other and kept crying when we saw the heartbeat. We were so looking forward to the baby coming."

Judge said the story is a testament to life.

"I cannot imagine the emotional rollercoaster that Mr. Soliman has been through. He has lost his wife and gained a daughter. The story illustrates that a baby in a womb is alive, and its life is precious," he said.

Aww, that's so sad. The poor guy lost his wife and both seemed to be so excited and happy about having a child.

I hope the baby will be alright, she seems pretty small and premature. It would be even harder if something happened to her as well.

even if i had gotten pregnant when i was 10 i wouldn't have aborted the baby and even if it had meant my death i don't think i would ever have even thought about abortion

although its like trying to imagine what you would say if someone held a gun to your head and asked you if you were a christian who knows what you would do
