Who: Zul, Shadow & Alex
When: Daytime
Where: The Lab
Weather: Fair to middlin'
PostPosted: Wed Jan 14, 2009 10:46 am

Shadow had heard of this place, of course. Who hadn't? The Lab had been there for a while, after all ... and Shadow remembered when it had blown up that time too. Whooo boy, had everyone in town been talking about it then.

Now, though, people mostly didn't talk about it too much, anymore, except to whisper of rumors about strange people and things that hung around the buildings and surrounding area.

Shadow knew better, though. Mostly because of having met Wit. Of course, there were strange things, but they were actually people... of a sort. Raevens, to be precise. Beings created from some kind of remnants of a huge storm from way back when and whatever souls their guardians could manage to trap in bottles to combine with those remnants.

In point of fact, the little thief had just recently helped Wit capture one such soul. And hadn't that been fun...

Now, though, he'd decided to do a bit of looking around on his own - assuming he could get into the building. He had no idea if only certain people were allowed in, or what... Not that he cared.

He wasn't one of the highest-ranking priests of Jorahna for nothing, after all! Grinning to himself, Shadow padded toward the front of the building - willing to at least try the conventional route first before resorting to .... other methods of entry.

The man might be pleased to find that the front door was, in fact, open to the public - the woman in the front room, however, was a different story.

Alex was filing behind the desk in the main room, deft fingers flying over the folders and papers within. Like any good assistant, she was doing her research and making sure important documents were easy to find. She had been startled and pleased to find some of Chloe's sticky-notes on folders and stacks of papers, writing the contents on a list of things she wanted to type up and print out before continuing research and logging.

Her long black hair was looped into something only described as a hangman's noose, thick and heavy between her shoulders, although her bangs were at that infuriating length where they were too long to stay out of her eyes and too short to clip back. As such, she randomly tossed her head and stuck her lower lip out, blowing the offending lock before continuing onward, only to have her sight thwarted moments later. It was a vicious cycle, and she was heavily considering grabbing the envelope opener and sawing the annoying black swath off.

She also did this motion to glance to her charge, who 'sat' in the waiting room, idly flipping through a magazine. The woman knew Zul would stay put and wouldn't cause trouble, but she couldn't help to steal occasional glances in his direction, sometimes to make sure he was still 'seated,' and sometimes to make sure she wasn't still dreaming.

The Raevan himself was completely immersed in the stack of magazines at his side, every variety imaginable: tween mags, business mags, gossip mags, catalogues. His fingerless-gloved hands were currently holding a fashion number, crystalline blue eyes flicking over the pictures and moving over the words beneath. He couldn't read perfectly, but some words he had picked up from notes his woman had written or repeated words he'd seen on commercials. Marbled webbing between bone wings spread and flexed as the pages turned, spikey hair wafting with each movement as he tilted his way this way and that, observing this thing called 'trend' and how humans wore it.

"Why do you wear these?" he inquired at one point, lifting the magazing upwards and turning it so his woman could see, index finger pointing at a particuarlly small woman in offensive looking pantaloons.

Alex grunted. "Do you see me wearing that?" she glanced at it out of the corner of her eye, blowing her bangs out of her face yet again. "I dunno. People are obsessed with appearances. They do stupid things and wear stupid things because they think it's cool."

The Raevan blinked his blue eyes, perplexed. "That makes no sense," he informed the human, lowering the magazine back by his ribbon and staring at the pictures. "Such strange creatures."

Another grunt. "You can say that again."

"Such strange creatures."

Shadow was, indeed, pleased to find the front door unlocked - and he opened it as if he belonged there, padding into the front room. He looked around for a moment, gaze lingering on the Raeven.

Aaah... so this was what Wit was aiming to bring to life? Or something like it, anyway. How very very interesting... Shadow found himself wondering and speculating on what sort of soul this one might have.

And as such, he didn't really notice the woman behind the desk until she spoke, and he caught the end of that conversation.

Then he laughed softly and nodded, "I'd have to say I agree with you there."

The woman's head snapped up in surprise, nearly dropping the files clutched to her knees. Bright green eyes blinked once, twice, before she realized someone was in the front room. "Hey," she greeted in a decidedly non-professional and friendly manner. Alex would have said more, but she was immediately aware that the man in the room may very well have not been a man in the sense of human. She was immediately enthralled. "Welcome," she finally managed to squeeze out, slipping the files back into the draws and closing them.

Zul had given the owner of the voice a cursory glance, but never managed to look away. Oh ho ho, but this one, this one! His skin was darker than his! The Raevan perked with curiosity, magazine in hand as he floated beyond the table and towards the dark one, bright eyes taking in everything in a quick once-over: light hair, but his own was lighter; eyes similar to his own; and that skin! It was unlike anything he'd seen on humans before, reminding him of the rich color the trees outside his home took when wet.

Lifting the fashion item in hand, he offered it up to the new man, unaware it was being held upside down, as his eyes never left the other male. "Makes no sense."

Alex smiled as the Raevan immediately set about 'making friends,' standing and brushing her dusty hands off on her jeans. "Zul, it's polite to ask for names first." She offered a wide smile, approaching the man and extending her hand for shaking if he was so inclined, "I'm Alex, and this charmer here is Zul. Do you have an appointment or are you just taking a gander? Either way is grand with me."

Shadow noted the way both were staring at him, but he didn't seem offended, a faint smile staying on his face as Zul moved toward him with the magazine. After all, if he didn't want to be seen he could all-but disappear.

He reached out and plucked the magazine quickly from the Raeven's hands - though not in any way trying to be rude - and looked over it for a second or two. "Mm... I'd have to agree with you there. These don't even look that great on this girl. And how would you move in them without getting tangled up somewhere?"

Then he glanced up as the woman came closer as well, transferring magazine to one hand so he could shake. "Pleasure to meet you, the name's Shadow," he replied, grinning unashamedly - knowing that his name was nothing more than a rather obvious description of his appearance ... more or less.

"I don't have any kind of appointment or anything but ah... a friend of mine is trying to ... bring one of these," a gesture toward Zul, "to life, so I was curious."

There was a shift in the Raevan's expression - perhaps something indignant - but it was quick and smoothed back into his easy smile before it could be discerned. Zul wasn't used to being referred to as an object to bring to life, giving him a pause of discomfort and something vaguely like annoyance. Sure, he looked different, but so did Shadow. And he could not get over that skin!

The infraction was forgotten, the demonic Frei inclining his head politely as the other introduced himself. "We are Raevan." It was the first time he'd spoken collectively of his kind; Zul was generally more interested in the humans than his own species, as it was the humans who were different, not them! He felt it necessary to at least let him know they had a name as good as any other.

Really. Human? So bland in comparison to Raevan.

Giving her charge a warm smile and suffering his pride with a light touch to his elbow, she gave the male a more polite expression. "Well, you sure came to the right place," she laughed, gesturing towards the seats should he like to sit, "and I'll do whatever I can to answer any questions you have. Granted, I'm kinda new so I'm still figuring things out myself, but I'm happy to help. Both of us are." Alex gave Zul a pointed glance, which was returned with a wider smile. She wasn't entirely sure she trusted that type of acknowledgement.

"Obviously, I can't get any personal information," she gave a 'you-know-how-it-is' smile, "but you say you know someone, so you're probably decently informed. Who might it be? I wonder if we've met," she questioned to herself, thinking of Kumoru and Kinsey, both of whom she'd spoken with about their progress.

Shadow picked up on that shift in Zul's expression though and one brow went up slightly. Well, he hadn't meant to be insulting or anything... But then the expression was gone before the little thief could start to apologize.

Turning back to Alex, he nodded, orange eyes bright with that curiosity. Already he'd learned something new, so this was turning out to be profitable - in terms of information gathering.

"His name is Wit," he replied to the woman's question, then shot a glance back at Zul again. "I actually just recently went with him to help him acquire a soul for his ... Raeven." The pause there was deliberate, letting Zul know he'd gotten the message. He wouldn't make the mistake of calling one of these a 'thing' again, thank you.

"Wit," the woman repeated with familiarity. She supposed she shouldn't be surprised - although it also gave her an idea of what the man in front of them was. "I had the pleasure of meeting Wit, yes." A smile curved her lips, amusement at the memory of Wit being attacked by stress-creatures lighting her eyes. "Zul, you remember--"

"I do," he purred in his smokey voice, his tone pleased. "Pleasant," he lifted his fingers to touch just below his eyes, remembering well the markings there, "talked different. Flowy." The demonic Frei chuckled, tilting his head at Shadow. "You are Fae-Vampire too?" he inquired, marbled wings spread, the rings tapping against the bone idly as the tucked again to his bare back.

Alex made an inarticulated sound of embarrassment. "Zul, that's not polite to ask!" she chided him, although the Raevan did little more than smile even brighter. "I'm sorry Shadow, he's extremely curious about humans or those that look like them."

Hearing his woman say the name made him start. What type of name was that? Was it Fae? Vampire? Naturally, he had to ask. "Your name..."

"Zul, please," she changed her tone, indicating her charge should cease and desist or face the loss of playtime with Lorenzo. Her vibrant eyes fixed on the laughing Frei pointedly before returning to the dark-skinned male. "I apologize profusely," she murmured, her own tanned cheeks taking a light bit of color, smoothing her hands over her tank top in a nervous gesture. "But...yes, I know Wit, and I suppose that information means I should look forward to seeing him again." Alex made a mental note of writing the information down - she didn't know the exact date of capture, but some information was better than none. "I trust all went well with that endeavor?"

Shadow laughed softly at the Raeven's description of Wit. "Yea... that's pretty accurate. He does talk rather differently than a lot of people." A little smiled teased at his lips. "I like it, though..."

Then he tipped his head to one side and blinked at the question. So, Wit had told these people what he was as well...? That was interesting. "It's all right," he assured Alex, waving a hand for a moment. "I'm not quite the same... ah ... race as Wit is, but I am Fae, yes."

Shadow grinned at her question and bobbed his head in a quick nod. "It did, yup ... I'll leave it up to Wit to give you the details, though. It was his plan all along, I was just dragged along to help." His tone indicated that he hadn't at all minded said "dragging", however.

"I like Wit," Zul proclaimed simply, lacing his fingers together over his partially formed chest, expression one of thoughtfulness, recalling that most intruiging day. He had to say that Wit was the most interesting two-legger he'd yet met, although it might have had something to do with the fact that the enigmatic man wasn't actually human.

Brilliant blue eyes rested on Shadow as he confirmed he was Fae but not the same. "Even humans are different," he offered with an amused curve of his lips. The statement itself could have almost been considered as a dislike against humans were it not from such a young being, were it not for the most obvious interest he took in them. Zul grinned, thinking over Shadow's words and what they would mean. Wit would also have a Raevan! What type of being would that be? "Can't wait to meet them," he said, more to himself than the other two. Would it speak like Wit? Could it teach him to speak like that?

Alex, however, still managed to give him a dry, rueful glance, before again looking to Shadow. He was less of a stranger now, to her, knowing that he was familiar with Wit. It automatically put the dark-skinned Fae in her good graces. "Oh I...I can only imagine, Shadow, and I know that it wouldn't be anywhere near as fantastical as the truth." Her green eyes gave a quick, almost professional once-over of the other man before intoning contentedly, "At least you didn't get hurt. That gives me some hope."
